[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1160322] Re: [ 21.125934] INFO @wl_cfg80211_attach : Registered CFG80211 phy

2014-10-19 Thread Damir Butmir
That workaround (comment #14) does NOT work for me. It successfully
returns FRAMEBUFFER=y in the terminal but doesn't actually correct the
problem.

I am seeing this message 100% of the time on boot, however in my case it
is a little differentI am running a dual monitor setup and on my
primary monitor I see the expected LightDM login screen. I used to see
the exact same screen on my external secondary monitor as well up until
a recent slew of updates. Now on my secondary screen it just shows a
purple background with this cfg80211 etc text on it

Title:
[Lenovo IdeaPad Y550P] Mute LED indication is inverted

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Steps to reproduce (on my hardware):
  Boot Ubuntu 14.10.
Press Mute hardware button several times.

  What is expected:
When mute is on button LED is on, when mute is off button LED is off.

  What really happens:
Mute button LED state is inverted relatively to what is expected.

  Notes:
This bug is reproducible also when booted into the root shell of the recovery
mode and switching mute state on/off with alsamixer while playing some audio
file to control the actual mute state (button press does not mute/unmute sound
in this case, but LED switches on/off in respond to alsamixer).

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1372609] Re: Touchpad detected as mouse on Asus ux303ln laptop

2014-10-19 Thread Mathias Gottschlag
I am in the process of reverse engineering the protocol. I have executed
the Windows 8.1 driver in a VM and have written a short program which
puts the touchpad into the proprietary mode. The code can be found here:

https://github.com/mgottschlag/focaltech-tools

If anybody wants to join me, before a proper driver can be written, the
next step is to decipher the report packet stream - so if anybody wants
to run the program on their machine and try to find out some information
about the packet format, go ahead. I am going to collect my findings in
the github wiki at the link above.

Example output (from a single finger moving to the left):

Touchpad detected as mouse on Asus ux303ln laptop

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Hi! I'm following the bug reporting documentation here:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection#In_case_Touchpad_features_like_scrolling.2C_tapping.2C_etc._do_not_work_at_all.

The touchpad on my new Asus ux303ln laptop is detected as a mouse, so
I can't access touchpad features such as two-finger scrolling.

The laptop was very recently released and I couldn't find any
outstanding firmware updates for it through Asus's Windows-based
  tools.

  % lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS
  Release: 14.04

Per the instructions on the wiki, I'm attaching output from
  /proc/bus/input/devices,` xinput --list`, and /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

This machine also has a touchscreen, which I'm fairly certain is the
maXtouch digitizer visible in the logs. I haven't yet restarted in
Windows to see if it says anything useful about the touchpad, but I
can do so if that's helpful. This is a fresh install of 14.04 and I
haven't done much customization of it apart from installing some
applications and changing the default resolution.

The only relevant bit I noticed in /var/log/dmesg is this:

... that went quicker than expected. The link above now contains a
mostly complete parser for the packet stream that (afaics) gives the
correct finger position for up to 5 fingers, as well as information
about touchpad clicks.

outstanding firmware updates for it through Asus's Windows-based
  tools.

2014-10-19 Thread linduxed
First of all, thanks a lot for the effort to give us a solution to this
problem!

I'd like to verify that it works on my UX303LN. I went ahead and compiled the
code and tried echoing in serio_raw into one of the
/sys/bus/serio/devices/serio*/drvctl, but got stuck on the following:

$ sudo ./init /sys/bus/serio/devices/serio1/
Could not open /sys/bus/serio/devices/serio1/. Check that the program is run
with the required privileges and that the file exists.
open: Is a directory

What file does the program want as its argument?

Try sudo ./init /dev/serio_raw0.

I'll add a comment about that in the usage section. That device file should
be created if you switch a device to serio_raw (serio4 here!).

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1074960] Re: [Toshiba L850D-11Z] Backlight keys don't work with fglrx-installer

2014-10-19 Thread bruno pennec
With last upgrade to Ubuntu 14.10, (kernel 3.16.0-23-generic + fglrx 14.2),
this bug is now solved with acpi_osi=Linux on linux boot command line.

So, I would propose to close the bug.

Backlight keys work (I get the slider on screen) , but there is no
  change on brightness.

  Other tests :
     - kernel 3.6.5 (ppa) gives same result than kernel 3.5.0-17 (default 12.10
configuration)
     - when Backlight is set to a new value(on the slider), a sleep and a wake
up set the correct value on screen brightness

     - L850D-11Z is a dual GPU (AMD A8), so I take a look at acpi tree :
  - there is 2 directory acpi_vga0 and acpi_vga1 for the 2 radeon
GPU
  - /sys/class/backlight/acpi_vgaX/actual_brightness had the right
value (in the 2 directory)
  - changing /sys/class/backlight/acpi_vgaX/brightness change
actual_brightness but had no effect on screen too

  From the log :
On dmesg, i have this 2 errors, but they don't seem to be related to
backlight variable _BCL :

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1265198] Re: [ASUS ZENBOOK Touch UX31A] Bluetooth mouse problems after 13.10. update

2014-10-19 Thread David
I can confirm the bug for 14.04 and 14.10, running the current, updated
beta on my Zenbook UX32VD:

After booting up the computer the bluetooth applet is not able to turn on
bluetooth again (the slider slides, for an instance of a second my paired
devices show up, and then the slider is on OFF again)
When running the command

rfkill unblock all

(im in the bluetooth group) the bluetooth applet displays bluetooth
being on and Im able to use my BT devices.

The error is the same when
- closing and then opening the lid
- Turning BT off using the applet

@Bachi: You can add 'rfkill unblock all' in /etc/rc.local before the
'exit 0' line. So you have BT always on after starting up the system.

Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1372609] Re: Touchpad detected as mouse on Asus ux303ln laptop

2014-10-19 Thread linduxed
serio4 was indeed the device for which the program worked.

All five fingers are registered and give plenty of output.

What would the steps be to make this translate into cursor movement and button
presses? Currently this eats all of the input and transforms it into console
output, as far as I can see.

On 2014-10-19 16:14, Mathias Gottschlag wrote:
 Try sudo ./init /dev/serio_raw0.

I'll add a comment about that in the usage section. That device file should
be created if you switch a device to serio_raw (serio4 here!).

First of all, thanks a lot for the effort to give us a solution to this
 problem!

I'd like to verify that it works on my UX303LN. I went ahead and compiled
 the
code and tried echoing in serio_raw into one of the
/sys/bus/serio/devices/serio*/drvctl, but got stuck on the following:

 $ sudo ./init /sys/bus/serio/devices/serio1/
Could not open /sys/bus/serio/devices/serio1/. Check that the program is

with the required privileges and that the file exists.

What file does the program want as its argument?

... that went quicker than expected. The link above now contains a
mostly complete parser for the packet stream that (afaics) gives the
correct finger position for up to 5 fingers, as well as information

 Title:
Touchpad detected as mouse on Asus ux303ln laptop

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
   Confirmed

 Bug description:
Hi! I'm following the bug reporting documentation here:

 https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection#In_case_Touchpad_features_like_scrolling.2C_tapping.2C_etc._do_not_work_at_all
 .

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1368908] Re: [Sony VAIO SVP13215CDB] suspend/resume failure

2014-10-19 Thread Yuv
Lucky (or unlucky) me, I intensified usage by opening and closing the lid and
connecting/disconnecting the power plug and the bug was triggered with 3.17.1.
The behaviour that seems to trigger it / the last activities were:
* leave Thunderbird and Skype running to have some disk activity going
* have a Skype conversation on battery power
* close the lid
* connect the power supply
* open the lid
* check emails or do something else that causes disk access

unfortunately I did not have a web browser session running and I cannot
start a browser to copy paste from the dmesg and any attempt to start
software results in errors.

opening a new terminal tab:
  Segmentation fault
  /usr/bin/lesspipe: 295: [: =: unexpected operation

the dmesg log is too long to manually retype from screen, some of the
suspicious message:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1368908] Re: [Sony VAIO SVP13215CDB] suspend/resume failure

2014-10-19 Thread Yuv
I actually went back to v3.12.30-trusty -- the most recent in the 3.12
line, because I remembered that 14.04, when the problems started,
installed v3.13.something. I no longer have record of what was the last
working kernel under 13.10, but I remember 3.11 is the first one that
did work with this laptop.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1380444] Re: xhci locks up computer with NULL pointer dereference trying to wake up external USB3 disk

2014-10-19 Thread Rocko
The initial crash appears to be a UAS issue. Disabling UAS for this
particular device with this in the file /etc/modprobe.d/usb-storage.conf
stops the initial uas error and the resulting kernel crash:

options usb-storage quirks=1058:1230:u

Instead, the drive wakes up as expected.

xhci locks up computer with NULL pointer dereference trying to wake up
  external USB3 disk

Bug description:
In Ubuntu 14.10, my laptop locks up completely when trying to wake my
WD 1230 USB3 external hard drive from its default 10-minute standby.

The system tries to wake up the drive, which is unsuccessful, and
after a few seconds uas_eh_abort_handler gets called. Shortly after
this the NULL pointer dereference occurs in xhci_alloc_streams or
xhci_check_streams_endpoint (most times the NULL pointer dereference
error doesn't even get persisted to disk, so there may be other points
where it occurs). Not long after this the laptop locks up completely
and both it and the hard drive have to be power-cycled.

I can put the drive manually into and out of standby using hdparm, so
I guess there are two problems: one which makes the drive crash (ie it
must crash because it needs to be power cycled) and the other being
the NULL pointer dereference and complete kernel lockup.

The last good kernel was 3.15-rc4. All kernels since since have this
problem, including the latest upstream kernel. I did a git bisect,
  which says:

The merge base 6d4596905b65bf4c63c1a008f50bf385fa49f19b is bad. This
means the bug has been fixed between
  6d4596905b65bf4c63c1a008f50bf385fa49f19b and
  [89ca3b881987f5a4be4c5dbaa7f0df12bbdde2fd]

I have reported this upstream at
  https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=85741. More details
including the logs showing the error ocurring are there.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1380444] Re: xhci locks up computer with NULL pointer dereference trying to wake up external USB3 disk

2014-10-19 Thread Rocko
Note that just blacklisting the uas module (blacklist uas in a conf
file in /etc/modprobe.d) stops the drive from ever mounting, even though
the usb subsystem sees it being attached.

after a few seconds uas_eh_abort_handler gets called. Shortly after
this the NULL pointer dereference occurs in xhci_alloc_streams or
xhci_check_streams_endpoint (most times the NULL pointer dereference
error doesn't even get persisted to disk, so there may be other points
where it occurs). Not long after this the laptop locks up completely
and both it and the hard drive have to be power-cycled.

I can put the drive manually into and out of standby using hdparm, so
I guess there are two problems: one which makes the drive crash (ie it
must crash because it needs to be power cycled) and the other being
the NULL pointer dereference and complete kernel lockup.

The last good kernel was 3.15-rc4. All kernels since since have this
problem, including the latest upstream kernel. I did a git bisect,
  which says:

The merge base 6d4596905b65bf4c63c1a008f50bf385fa49f19b is bad. This
means the bug has been fixed between
  6d4596905b65bf4c63c1a008f50bf385fa49f19b and
  [89ca3b881987f5a4be4c5dbaa7f0df12bbdde2fd]

I have reported this upstream at
  https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=85741. More details
including the logs showing the error ocurring are there.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1372609] Re: Touchpad detected as mouse on Asus ux303ln laptop

2014-10-19 Thread Ivo Anjo
Thank you Mathias! I'm stilll waiting for my UX303LN preorder (my
country always gets things last, sigh...) but you're a hero already :)

Let me know if I can buy you a pizza or a beer! Be glad to!

Title:

[3.967547] input: PS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse as
  /devices/platform/i8042/serio4/input/input11

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1382993] [NEW] Micro-sd card not mounted by internal card reader

2014-10-19 Thread cristian
Public bug reported:

This card is inserted in the card reader slot via an sd adapter. I've
tried to change several adapters but the card is never mounted (Trusty
Tahr). Card is recognized by other card readers and the internal card
reader recognizes other micro-sd cards.

When I insert the card, I get in dmesg:

[ 725.531751] sdhci-pci :01:04.1: Will use DMA mode even though HW doesn't

When you remove linux-image-extra-X-generic (e.g. switching from -generic to

linux-image-extra-X-generic's postrm script.
This results into broken boot. At least when / is on LVM etc.

The touch pad for my acer aspire does not appear to work - I have to use
an external mouse to scroll and move.

I've tried kernel 3.17.1 from the mainline as well - again the touchpad

i'm happy to try another kernel but it is not clear what is meant by the
latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the
page (not the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/
KernelMainlineBuilds?

do the instructions still agree with the web page?

Christopher Hoover, thank you for reporting this bug and helping make
Ubuntu better. Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available
from the very top line at the top of the page (not the daily folder)
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you
tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the
 following tags:
 kernel-fixed-upstream
 kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested
 exactly shown as:
 kernel-fixed-upstream-3.17

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following
 tags:
 kernel-bug-exists-upstream
 kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
 understanding.

3.2.0-64 kernel version breaks usb3.0 port in asus k53sv

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  release: Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS

Few weeks ago my system was updated to the new kernel version 3.2.0-64 and
inmediately my 3.0usb port of my asus k53sv laptop breaks.
I'm so sure that it is a bug of the kernel because if I restart my computer
with the older kernel version(3.2.0-63) the port work's perfectly well.
Anyway my system recognizes that the port exists and if I connect something
to the port the command lususb recognizes it, but still not working.
Recently I update my system to the 3.2.0-65 kernel version but the problem
still there.

This is my 3.0 usb controller:
04:00.0 USB controller: ASMedia Technology Inc. ASM1042 SuperSpeed USB Host
Controller

  Thank you for your support.

We are trying to provide Ubuntu desktop (ubuntu-14.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso) to
our labs for studs, which just wanna give it a try.
Unfortunately it doesn't work: If it tries to exec the final step (e.g.
run-init /root /sbin/init textonly toram /root/dev/console /root/dev/console
21) it panics:

I've no clue, what the problem could be. Already tried to append
  kernel params 'selinux=0 apparmor=0 enforcig=0' but without success :(

The /root fs seems to be properly populated (overlayfs).

  Any hints?

Title:
  arp fails to update, 3.13.0-{24,29}

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
in an AWS environment managed by BOSH, we saw tcp connectivity
  problems between pairs of VMs.

VM A and VM B are up, running ubuntu 14.04-based images, and in the
  same vpc subnet.

VM B is terminated, and another VM is created that uses the IP address
  from VM B

The new VM tries to make a tcp connection to VM A. In some cases, the
  connection fails.

Investigation reveals that VM A has the old MAC address in its
neighbor list. In some cases, running arp -d IP Address on VM A
fixes the problem. Also in some cases, running arping in gratuitous
arp mode on the new VM also fixes the problem.

The problem does not occur if VM A is running an ubuntu 10.04-based
  image.

The problem seems to occur only on machines with lots of tcp
  connection traffic between them.

'arp -d' and arping on the new VM do not seem to fix the problem if
there are processes on the VMs that are trying to create new TCP
  connections.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1383096] [NEW] kexec-tools version bump needed (kexec reboot halts)

2014-10-19 Thread Marcus Furlong
Public bug reported:

kexec halts system on reboot on trusty

kexec: Starting new kernel

32-bit relocation outside of kernel!

 -- System halted

The bug is discussed here

   http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/kexec/2014-August/012354.html

and the debian bug is here

   https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=754288

A workaround for trusty is add the --entry-32bit argument to the kexec
initscripts where kexec is used.

s#/sbin/kexec#/sbin/kexec --entry-32bit#g

If a package version bump is unlikely, it might be a good to add this as
an option in /etc/default/kexec ?

2014-10-19 Thread ajithmemana
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I am using an Asus X553MA laptop. My touch pad works well. But the features
like multitouch, scrolling etc doesn't seem to work.
I tried the below command and it didn't return any output.

cat /proc/bus/input/devices ~/devices
 xinput --list ~/xinput

And the below code returns all hardware info but not my touchpad

ajith@ajith-X553MA:~$ cat /proc/bus/input/devices

But i noticed a field as Mouse instead of my touchpad.

I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0001 Version=0063

U: Uniq=
H: Handlers=mouse0 event5
B: PROP=0
B: EV=7
B: KEY=7 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0

I have used a mouse earlier with the laptop. But it was not a Logitech
