Status in linux source package in Vivid:

Bug description:
My wireless card Realtek RTL8723AE PCIe Wireless Network Adapter doesn't
work fine on 15.04. It works pretty fine on 14.10 and previous versions, but
it's unstable on 15.04 and the most of times it can't connect to my WiFi
network. Sometimes I can solve deleting the network from Edit connections,
but when i can connect the connection is unstable and really slow (40-50 kb/s
in download).
The same wifi card with the same wifi networks worked fine until I've updated
to Ubuntu 15.04 so i can suppose that it's a Vivid's bug

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1464757] Re: Audio broken on Dell Venue 11 Pro 7140

2015-06-14 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
GaryParr:

I know Dell released an A05 BIOS for this model... but then pulled the
BIOS after it caused problems.

Would you have further information towards this (ex. support article on
Dell's website noting this)?

...(I'm A04)...

Just to advise, as per your Bug Description you are using BIOS A05 (not
A04).

Despite this, one thing that could be discussed with Dell as per your dmesg
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/208945923/CurrentDmesg.txt :
[0.076672] Your BIOS is broken and requested that x2apic be disabled.
This will slightly decrease performance.
Use 'intremap=no_x2apic_optout' to override BIOS request.

Hence, at a minimum they either should provide an updated BIOS that
fixes at least this issue, or if this was the problem introduced in A05,
they should provide A04 via their website.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1399952] Re: [Dell Latitude 2110] dell_led driver does not auto-load (bad alias)

2015-06-14 Thread Ben Harris
Tested against 4.1.0-040100rc7.201506080035. The dell-led module
doesn't autoload unless I put in place the workaround modprobe.d file
metioned in the original report.

Title:
[Dell Latitude 2110] dell_led driver does not auto-load (bad alias)

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
On my Latitude 2110, the dell_led driver is useful for controlling
the LED on the lid. However, the driver doesn't load automatically on
boot, and so /sys/class/leds/dell::lid doesn't exist. I can load the
module manually (with sudo modprobe dell_led), or I can put this
  line in /etc/modprobe.d/local-dell-led.conf:

  alias wmi:F6E4FE6E-909D-47CB-8BAB-C9F6F2F8D396 dell_led

If I do the latter, then the module loads automatically at boot.

I note that modinfo dell_led says:

  alias: wmi:F6E4FE6E-909D-47cb-8BAB-C9F6F2F8D396

Note that the 47cb there is in lower case. I suspect that this is
  the cause of the problem.

I also note that the hp_wmi driver has a wmi: alias with lower-
case letters in, so it may require a similar fix.

Title:
Unable to import photos from Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I'm having trouble accessing photos or files on my Samsung Galaxy Note
  3 phone.

Plugging in phone and using Shotwell, then clikcing on the
SMASUNG_Android camera cause a Could not claim USB device (-53)
error, which when dismissed just displays a Starting import please
  wait message indefinitely.

In an attempt to figure out what is going wrong I've been using the
  mtp-detect command as per
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/1314556

So this is a log of what I've done:

  (running kernel is 3.19.0-20-generic)

  1. Unplug and plug in Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and get dmesg output:

  [ 25.386168] usb 1-2: USB disconnect, device number 2
  [ 28.245983] usb 1-2: new high-speed USB device number 4 using xhci_hcd

  [ 28.375250] usb 1-2: Manufacturer: SAMSUNG
  [ 28.375251] usb 1-2: SerialNumber: 2410ba56

  2. Kill any gvfs processes that might interfere with with mtp-detect

  msharman@laptop-msharman:~$ killall gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor
  msharman@laptop-msharman:~$ killall gvfs-mtp-volume-monitor

  3. Make sure phone is unlocked and run mtp-detect:
  msharman@laptop-msharman:~$ mtp-detect
Unable to open ~/.mtpz-data for reading, MTPZ disabled.
  libmtp version: 1.1.8

  Listing raw device(s)
Device 0 (VID=04e8 and PID=6860) is a Samsung Galaxy models (MTP).
 Found 1 device(s):
Samsung: Galaxy models (MTP) (04e8:6860) @ bus 1, dev 4

interface
LIBMTP libusb: Attempt to reset device
LIBMTP PANIC: failed to open session on second attempt

  4. Check dmesg output:
  msharman@laptop-msharman:~$ dmesg | tail
  [ 28.375250] usb 1-2: Manufacturer: SAMSUNG
  [ 28.375251] usb 1-2: SerialNumber: 2410ba56

  [ 217.885230] xhci_hcd :00:14.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with

It looks like there could be an xhci related kernel bug?

So I tried using a newer mainline kernel: http://kernel.ubuntu.com
  /~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.0-vivid/linux-
  image-4.0.0-04-generic_4.0.0-04.201504121935_amd64.deb

With this kernel I get different dmesg output but the mtp-detect still
fails (following the exact same procedure as above but I'm just
  showing the differences here)

  (running kernel 4.0.0)

  msharman@laptop-msharman:~$ mtp-detect
Unable to open ~/.mtpz-data for reading, MTPZ disabled.
  libmtp version: 1.1.8

Title:
Realtek RTL8723AE wifi regression: badly slow compared to other OSs

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in linux source package in Vivid:
  Expired

Unable to import photos from Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I'm having trouble accessing photos or files on my Samsung Galaxy Note
  3 phone.

Plugging in phone and using Shotwell, then clikcing on the
SMASUNG_Android camera cause a Could not claim USB device (-53)
error, which when dismissed just displays a Starting import please
  wait message indefinitely.

In an attempt to figure out what is going wrong I've been using the
  mtp-detect command as per
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/1314556

So this is a log of what I've done:

  (running kernel is 3.19.0-20-generic)

  1. Unplug and plug in Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and get dmesg output:

  [ 28.375251] usb 1-2: SerialNumber: 2410ba56

  2. Kill any gvfs processes that might interfere with with mtp-detect

  msharman@laptop-msharman:~$ killall gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor
  msharman@laptop-msharman:~$ killall gvfs-mtp-volume-monitor

  3. Make sure phone is unlocked and run mtp-detect:
  msharman@laptop-msharman:~$ mtp-detect
Unable to open ~/.mtpz-data for reading, MTPZ disabled.
  libmtp version: 1.1.8

  Listing raw device(s)
Device 0 (VID=04e8 and PID=6860) is a Samsung Galaxy models (MTP).

  4. Check dmesg output:

It looks like there could be an xhci related kernel bug?

So I tried using a newer mainline kernel: http://kernel.ubuntu.com
  /~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.0-vivid/linux-
  image-4.0.0-04-generic_4.0.0-04.201504121935_amd64.deb

With this kernel I get different dmesg output but the mtp-detect still
fails (following the exact same procedure as above but I'm just
  showing the differences here)

  (running kernel 4.0.0)

  msharman@laptop-msharman:~$ mtp-detect
Unable to open ~/.mtpz-data for reading, MTPZ disabled.

  [ 215.634189] usb 1-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2,

  [ 215.634196] usb 1-2: Manufacturer: SAMSUNG
  [ 215.634198] usb 1-2: SerialNumber: 2410ba56

So upgrading to kernel 4.0 hasdone something

Title:
Failure to boot if fstab disk mounts fail

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I found this on my main 15.04 desktop but have reproduced it in a VM:
  1. Install Ubuntu 15.04 (I included updates and non-free but I doubt that
matters).
  2. Add a bogus entry to /etc/fstab, eg:
/dev/sdd1 /mnt/sdd1 ext4 errors=remount-ro 0 0
Note that /mnd/sdd1 exists but /dev/sdd1 does not
  3. Reboot

Expected: Failure to mount /dev/sdd1 reported and option to boot without
mounting it
Actual: System appears to hang, although it will eventually present a root
terminal (with no indication of the cause of the problem). It appears to hang
prior to switching graphical mode, with the result that any warnings/errors
that are present on all boots but invisible because the screen clears before
they're seen become visible for the first time incorrectly suggesting they are
the cause of the problem.

Removing (or commenting out) the problematic entries and rebooting
  allows the system to boot.

HOWEVER: The grub boot menu now appears and any pre-existing menu
timeout and default action seems to have been lost; it's now necessary
to select a boot option on each boot. This may be a separate bug (or
  feature?).

My actual case: I have external drives permanently connected via USB, however
the USB card appears to have failed hence the drives are not accessible. With
no clues (and being unfamiliar to systemd) working out why the system wouldn't
boot was a tough job.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1464969] [NEW] Unable to import photos from Samsung Galaxy Note 3

2015-06-14 Thread Michael Sharman
Public bug reported:

I'm having trouble accessing photos or files on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3
phone.

Plugging in phone and using Shotwell, then clikcing on the
SMASUNG_Android camera cause a Could not claim USB device (-53) error,
which when dismissed just displays a Starting import please wait
message indefinitely.

In an attempt to figure out what is going wrong I've been using the mtp-
detect command as per
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/1314556

So this is a log of what I've done:

(running kernel is 3.19.0-20-generic)

1. Unplug and plug in Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and get dmesg output:

[ 28.375250] usb 1-2: Manufacturer: SAMSUNG
[ 28.375251] usb 1-2: SerialNumber: 2410ba56

2. Kill any gvfs processes that might interfere with with mtp-detect

msharman@laptop-msharman:~$ killall gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor
msharman@laptop-msharman:~$ killall gvfs-mtp-volume-monitor

3. Make sure phone is unlocked and run mtp-detect:

4. Check dmesg output:

So upgrading to kernel 4.0 hasdone something it's fixed the xhci_hcd
related errors but the mtp-detect is still failing (I've tried gphoto2
-L as well and got similar results).

So I'm not which package the bug is in: could kernel, libmtp, libusb or
somethings else ?

2015-06-14 Thread Michael Sharman
sorry this is the same as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libmtp/+bug/1464968 I just
wantes to make sure the correct kernel related information was submitted
since I think this is likely a kernel issue.

Bug description:
I'm having trouble accessing photos or files on my Samsung Galaxy Note

Plugging in phone and using Shotwell, then clikcing on the

In an attempt to figure out what is going wrong I've been using the
  mtp-detect command as per

So this is a log of what I've done:

  (running kernel is 3.19.0-20-generic)

  2. Kill any gvfs processes that might interfere with with mtp-detect

  msharman@laptop-msharman:~$ killall gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor
  msharman@laptop-msharman:~$ killall gvfs-mtp-volume-monitor

  3. Make sure phone is unlocked and run mtp-detect:

It looks like there could be an xhci related kernel bug?

So I tried using a newer mainline kernel: http://kernel.ubuntu.com

With this kernel I get different dmesg output but the mtp-detect still
fails (following the exact same procedure as above but I'm just
  showing the differences here)

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

Abhishek Kumar, as their is a deemphasis of support upstream for i386,
could you please test for this with the latest version of Ubuntu x64 via
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/wily-desktop-amd64.iso and
advise to the results?

Bug description:
Today when I tried to install ubuntu-14.04.2-desktop-i386 using a
  bootable USB(using Universal-USB-Installer-1.9.6.0), then after
showing me initial 4 steps system started rebooting. Any further
attempts in installing it resulted in the same bug.

This bug is not letting me install Ubuntu 14.04 on my hardware and it is
affecting a few more users too.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1383184] Re: Atheros Qualcomm Killer N1525 Wireless-AC [168c:003e] not supported

2015-06-14 Thread Josh Taylor
Just FYI, I seem to get much better performance over 5ghz compared to
2.4ghz with this card. Not sure if it's the routers I have tested (A
couple of DLinks and Netgear), but I can max out my net with the 5ghz
(speedtest.net reports 104mbit).

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1399952] Re: [Dell Latitude 2110] dell_led driver does not auto-load (bad alias)

2015-06-14 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Ben Harris, the issue you are reporting is an upstream one. Could you
please report this problem to the appropriate mailing list (platform-
driver-x86 CC Matthew Garrett and Pali Rohár) by following the
instructions verbatim at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/kernel ?

Please provide a direct URL to your e-mail to the mailing list once you
have made it so that it may be tracked via http://vger.kernel.org/vger-
lists.html . It can take a day for the new e-mail to show up in the
respective archive.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
[Dell Latitude 2110] dell_led driver does not auto-load (bad alias)

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
On my Latitude 2110, the dell_led driver is useful for controlling
the LED on the lid. However, the driver doesn't load automatically on
boot, and so /sys/class/leds/dell::lid doesn't exist. I can load the
module manually (with sudo modprobe dell_led), or I can put this
  line in /etc/modprobe.d/local-dell-led.conf:

  alias wmi:F6E4FE6E-909D-47CB-8BAB-C9F6F2F8D396 dell_led

If I do the latter, then the module loads automatically at boot.

I note that modinfo dell_led says:

  alias: wmi:F6E4FE6E-909D-47cb-8BAB-C9F6F2F8D396

Note that the 47cb there is in lower case. I suspect that this is
  the cause of the problem.

I also note that the hp_wmi driver has a wmi: alias with lower-
case letters in, so it may require a similar fix.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 219057] Re: Bluetooth does not coexist with WiFi

2015-06-14 Thread The_Legacy
Hi,
Thanks for your solution Julian Alarcon (alarconj), it worked for me.
I had the issue on all of my computers and thanks to you have been able to fix
this.

Well done

Title:
Bluetooth does not coexist with WiFi

Status in bluez package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
On my system bluetooth and wifi are unusable together. I have a built-
in CSR-based bluetooth module in my laptop, and an Atheros wifi. Wifi
transfers slow to a halt whenever there is BT traffic.

For example, if I play a music file from another machine through the
network using a BT headset, only the first few seconds of the file
will play until the player runs out of buffered data. No further data
is downloaded. Web pages also do not download, and I even lose
connection to AP from time to time.

At the same time, it looks like AFH is trying to work. If I monitor
the value returned by 'hcitool afh', it changes. But this seems to
have little effect on connection quality.

Is this a problem with my hardware, or the AFH implementation? Is
there a way to force bluetooth to not use the channels in use by WiFi?

Title:
Lenovo A740 doesn't poweroff on shutdown

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
If I do systemctl poweroff or use any GUI to try to shut down, it
  gets to the stage of

[ OK ] Reached target Shutdown
  reboot: System halted

but just sits there unresponsive, and does not actually power down.

Similarly, if I try running fwts -P, the hibernate test seems like
it crashes the computer (screen is on but unresponsive), then if I
click the power button twice, it resumes from hibernation just fine.

If I try to reboot, it's almost the same, except the display shows
weird psychedelic lines and colours, but everything is unresponsive
and I have to click (and this time *hold* not just simple click) the
  power button.

I can reboot fine from GRUB with ctrl+alt+delete. I've kept the
Windows partition that came with the computer, that also powers down
  and reboots fine.

If I click the power button while Ubuntu is started, it powers off
  immediately.

I originally asked a question at
  https://askubuntu.com/questions/632591/system-does-not-power-off-on-
poweroff-just-halts but I don't think it has an answer since this
seems more likely to be a kernel bug.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1464560] Re: Backport request: include PRD support for OpenPower kernels

2015-06-14 Thread Jeremy Kerr
We've just had the last of our feature-enablement patches hit linux-
next:

1cbb4a1 mtd: powernv: Add powernv flash MTD abstraction driver

The MTD driver is required for full PRD functionality, but I can open a
separate issue if you prefer.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1423608] Re: [Dell Precision M3800] suspend/resume failure when lid open/closed [non-free: nvidia]

2015-06-14 Thread Danny van Dyk
I find a very similar problem with my XPS 15 (9530), which is virtually
identical to the Precision M3800. During
the last two months, resume started to fail with increading frequency. This
escalated up to the point that
every resume fails since about a week. A switch from Ubuntu 14.10 to 15.04 did
not help with the problem,
neither did a BIOS update to version A08 (most recent version at the time of
this post).

Bug description:
This bugs symptoms look very similar to others on Launchpad.
Basically the computer (under 14.04 distro) fails to resume after suspending
when closing the lid. It happens every now and then and after a week or two
EVERY suspend results in a failure to resume. I tried a few different Nvidia
drivers (331, 331-updates, X.org) and changed the kernel a few times. I have
tried to keep this bug report free from the all the different (and confusing)
trials so this bug corresponds to one of the latest kernels (3.16.0-30-generic)
and the recommended Nvidia driver.

Lenovo A740 doesn't poweroff on shutdown

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bus 002 Device 006: ID 18ec:3299 Arkmicro Technologies Inc.

The hardware on that machine, is ok. I also have win7 installed and
  the camera works in it.

I tested this camera on other two machines with Ubuntu 12.10 and it
works out of the box (luvcview, guvcview).

I was unable to boot with latest mainline kernels (3.7rc8 or 3.6.9) to
test whether the error remains. Although in ArchBang live cd (3.6.9
kernel) the same error still was there when I tried to capture.

Both the mouse and keyboard got frozen. The only response: the browser button
blinked 4 times whenever pressed. The screen would turn on/off when
closing/opening the lid.
I needed to power the notebook off by holding the power button pressed for a
few seconds. The notebook is HP Probook 6470b if this helps. This was the first
time I experienced this fully uncontrollable state. This may be related to
previous random freezes of only the keyboard when I could still use the
touchpad.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1465054] [NEW] package linux-image-extra-3.13.0-54-generic 3.13.0-54.91 failed to install/upgrade: cannot copy extracted data for './lib/modules/3.13.0-54-generic/kernel/drivers

2015-06-14 Thread Bjarke Sandbeck
Public bug reported:

System freezes after booting up, after last update. When booting in previous
version and recover, the message still comes, but system is not freezing.
Tried apt-get autoremove -f, and then apt-get update and upgrade and autoremove
and rebooting just to see, and now I can boot again without the system freezes
after starting up.
