[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1300914] Re: External screen undetected after first plug
Are there any news about this issue? I can still observe it with the newest updates for 14.04.03 (3.16.0-45-generic). Switching to the greeter does not work for me as well but switching to tty and replugging the screen seems to do it. Is it probably possible to disable the counter for too many tries as a workaround? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1300914 Title: External screen undetected after first plug Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: On Ubuntu 14.04, the external screen plugged on VGA is detected and get activated correctly. However, if I unplug it and then replug it later, it is not detected anymore and the screen receives no signal. A way to get it back to work is to reboot or simply suspend the computer. Please mention the log files you need and I'll post them. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1452421] Re: ubuntu 15.04 overheats
Recently there was an update to thermald, and I did a new test but the problem persists. Again, what can I do about the imcomplete status of this bug? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1452421 Title: ubuntu 15.04 overheats Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: On 2015-04-26 I upgraded to Ubuntu 15.04 (from 14.10). Since then, my notebook (HP envy dv6) fan is nearly always on, and the notebook switched off several times, probably due to overheating. Each time I was working with Firefox; watching the livestream of www.tagesschau.de seems to be a good way of reproducing the problem. Going back to the 3.16.0-31 kernel (still offered by grub) seems to circumvent the problem. When I boot 3.16 the fan runs only occasionally. My first 15.04 kernel was 3.19.0-15, today I got -16 but the problem is the same. Before the machine switches off (it does not shut down Linux but just goes out) top shows me eight instances of kidle_inject, obviously desperately but hopelessly trying to keep processor load down. Under the 3.19 kernel the plugin-container process goes to loads of more than 100 % (on a four-core box), under 3.16 it never goes beyond 60 %. Note that between the overheat and the normal scenario I change only the kernel in the boot menu, all other binaries are the same (15.04). Especially, it's the same firefox. I fear that within a couple of weeks more kernel versions will arrive at my system and eventually push the working 3.16 kernel out of my grub menu, and then I shall have no way left of running my system for more than 20 or 30 minutes. The laptop seems to boot normally, I can hear the lightdm sound that it's ready, but I cannot see anything on the display. I can log in remotely. The backlight is on, so it's not a cause of no backlight. (I checked this by poking around /sys/class/backlight and I see it's set at full brightness.) I don't see anything obvious when I look at the diff of dmesg between 3.19.0-21 and 3.19.0.22, but if it's useful I can attach dmesg from 3.19.0-21. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1465504] Re: Disk Operation Storms (ext4)
[Expired for linux (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1465504 Title: Disk Operation Storms (ext4) Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: I tried an installation with the ext4 file system on the system partition. Sometimes - once a day or every two days - I had what I call a disk operation storm: a lot of disk activity on the physical hard disk, unresponsive mouse cursor, bad performance for some seconds. These are usually symptoms of too much load or swap activity. Further investigation did not reveal any system load during the disk operation storms nor any swap activity in the system monitor. There wasn't even displayed any disk activity in the system monitor while the external hard disks LED blinked to signal activity and made the usual sounds of a lot of small synced disc io operations. My solution to that problem was to revert back to the ext3 file system. You can do this by changing the corresponding entry in /etc/fstab from ext4 to ext3 as they are backwards compatible. Since that change and the reboot I have not again experienced a disk operating storm. The ext3 file system is journaled, all purpose and well suited to desktop operation. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1451277] Re: Extremely high IOWait and processes hungs after utopic-vivid upgrade with Iomega Zip drive (IDE)
Bisected. Bug seen after commit 045065d8a300a37218c548e9aa7becd581c6a0e8 [SCSI] fix qemu boot hang problem. Actually, the problem is not with that commit that is perfectly fine. That commit merely lets the real bug be triggered. Real bug is with scsi host lock and likely to be triggered by mixing a slow and a fast device on the same IDE/SATA channel. Bug is also biting other distros. See https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=189324 Bug is known to kernel developers. https://lkml.org/lkml/2015/8/16/44 https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=87581 Bug is fixed by following patch by Christoph Hellwig, that unfortunately is not yet applied upstream https://lkml.org/lkml/2014/11/20/581 ** Bug watch added: Linux Kernel Bug Tracker #87581 http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=87581 ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1451277 Title: Extremely high IOWait and processes hungs after utopic-vivid upgrade with Iomega Zip drive (IDE) Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: On Kubuntu, 64 bit AMD Phenom2 machine with 4 cores, and old (Geoforge 7025) Nvidia graphics. Using LVM. Machine also has a 2 disk software raid (mirroring). The machine was working fine before the upgrade, now it is almost impossible to use it... I see Wait in Top always above 60%; in dmesg after a few minutes that the machine is up even if the machine does nothing. I see hung processes (typically vgs, but occasionally also others). LVM related commands (e.g. lvdisplay) almost always hung at the terminal. I also see in ps some kernel workers almost constantly stuck in D state. Also, the machine takes ages to shutdown. Issue remains there also if I disable X (switch off the X login manager, sddm) and check at the console. Sorry I cannot provide details with apport, but the machine has been switched off and I will not be able to take it up again before a few days from now. The symptom I am observing may also be a sign of failing hardware, so please leave the bug as unconfirmed until I make some more tests or someone provide details on similar issues. In the meantime I would like to see if others are experiencing a similar serious issue. Is there anything specific that has changed between utopic and vivid, I should look into? [Kernel-packages] [Bug 344878] Re: file name too long when creating new file (ecryptfs_lookup: lookup_one_len() returned [-36] on lower_dentry)
! IMPORTANT By the way the limitation for non latin users are stricter. For example cyrillic symbols in UTF8 consume 2bits, not 1. So filename may be maximux 71 symbols. AFAIR chinese symbols consume 3 bytes... IMPORTANT ! PS Change the description please -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/344878 Title: file name too long when creating new file (ecryptfs_lookup: lookup_one_len() returned [-36] on lower_dentry) Status in eCryptfs: Fix Released Status in ecryptfs-utils package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in ecryptfs-utils source package in Natty: Won't Fix Status in linux source package in Natty: Won't Fix Status in ecryptfs-utils source package in Oneiric: Won't Fix Status in linux source package in Oneiric: Won't Fix Status in ecryptfs-utils source package in Precise: Invalid Status in linux source package in Precise: Fix Released Bug description: === IMPORTANT: eCryptfs can only store filenames of up to 143 characters when filename encryption is enabled. The remaining 112 characters are used for storing metadata such as the encrypted filename prefix, the signature of the filename encryption key, and an identifier for the cipher used, as well as random bytes to make /foo/file and /bar/file encrypt to different ciphertext and padding bytes to achieve proper cipher block size alignment. This bug is considered 'fixed' by the upstream maintainers. The eCryptfs kernel error message has been reduced to a debug level log message and eCryptfs now correctly reports its maximum supported filename length through the statfs() syscall. This is all that can be done without implementing a completely new encrypted filename design. A design that allows 255 character filenames without introducing other design limitations has not been identified and no one is currently working to come up with such a design. Please do not add comments or create new bugs saying that mv reports 'File name too long' or that you can't create a long filename in your eCryptfs mounts. It is an unfortunate design limitation that cannot be avoided at this time. Please do create new bugs when an application generates filenames that are too long to be stored in an eCryptfs mount. The application may be able to use the statfs() syscall to check the filename length limits of eCryptfs. Note that this does not include something like a torrent or ftp client trying to download a file with a long filename. The application is not generating the filename in those cases, it is just downloading the file that the user told it to download. === When trying to create a new file with a relatively long filename (f. ex. dfkmqsdgjfmqsldjfmlsqkjlqkdmfsmgjlqlskdqshgpoizehmlqkbgmlqbgmqbdfkmqsdgjfmqsldjfmlsqkjlqkdmfsmgjlqlskdqshgpoizehmlqkbgmlqbgmqbdfkmqsdgjfmqsldjfmlsqkjlqkdmfsmgjlqlskdqshgpoizehmlqkbgmlqbgmqb.txt) I get an error: file name to long, when in fact the file name is not to long, but the encrypted name created for this file is to long, so, the file was not created. this is no problem when I try to create a file, but when I'm copying a lot of files to my home folder I get some: filename to long error's and it's hard to fix (first locate the file, create shorter name, move again) so, maybe you could create a check for to long filenames? [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1247396] [NEW] Laptop built-in keyboard is not working after ubuntu 13.10 upgrade and using kernel 3.11.0-12-generic
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have an LG S1 Express Dual laptop and after upgrading to ubuntu 13.10 my keyboard stopped working when the default kernel is used (3.11.0-12-generic). Even the ESC key does not work during the boot phase to see the booting messages. Basically I can't do anything, I get stuck in the login screen. If I choose the old kernel 3.8.0-31-generic, it works without any problem. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Laptop built-in keyboard is not working after ubuntu 13.10 upgrade and using kernel 3.11.0-12-generic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1247396 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1451277] Re: Extremely high IOWait and processes hungs after utopic-vivid upgrade with Iomega Zip drive (IDE)
Please ignore my previous message. Did not wait enough. Bug is present in 3.17 upstream -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1451277 Title: Extremely high IOWait and processes hungs after utopic-vivid upgrade with Iomega Zip drive (IDE) Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: On Kubuntu, 64 bit AMD Phenom2 machine with 4 cores, and old (Geoforge 7025) Nvidia graphics. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1485378] [NEW] [REGRESSION] bluetooth visibility turns off
Public bug reported: I had Ubuntu 14.04 and I had the Bluetooth Visibility set to On. (in the submenu under the bluetooth tray icon, where it reads Visible) It used to be always on, I didn't have to turn it on every time I wanted my computer to be visible. I upgraded to 14.10 and then to 15.04, and then when failing to send a file over bluetooth to my computer, I found out Visible was off. I turned it on, and it worked. However, after a few minutes, it had turned off again. I can't find a setting anywhere to automatically turn off after N seconds. It would make sense to have that. If there is, it should be accessible through Bluetooth settings. If such a settings doesn't exist and once turned on bluetooth visibility is supposed to remain on, then there's some bug which is causing it to randomly turn off.
