[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1588632] Re: Please upgrade to zfs 0.6.5.7

2016-07-17 Thread Nils Meyer
I noticed that using the wily PPA will build correct kernel modules so
this is my workaround for now (doesn't require me to backport).

  Fix Released

Bug description:
Version 0.6.5.7 was released 21 ago, this is the changelog:
  https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/releases/tag/zfs-0.6.5.7

Since Ubuntu is now shipping ZFS we can't rely on the ppa anymore to
provide up to date packages. This point release also fixes a few minor
  bugs and supports Linux 4.6.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1603719] Re: NFS client: access problems after updating to kernel 4.4.0-31-generic

2016-07-17 Thread Sean
Same issue on this kernel. Cant browse subdirectories that are mounted
hdds after kernel update. Downgrading fixes the issue.

Ex can browse /mnt but cant browse /mnt/hdd1 /mnt/hdd2 etc

If im root i can browse the subdirectories though just not as a standard
user. Verified permission and works fine on a kernel downgrade. After
root user has browsed a nfs subdirectory a standard user can browse it.

Also able to browse the subdirectories if I mount each hdd individually.
Ex if I mount on client /mnt/hdd1 instead of mounting /mnt

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I am denied access to the subfilesystems exported by my nfs server

The client is reporting that I do not have the necessary permissions.
However, all was fine until the day before yesterday.

When I revert my client to 4.4.0-28, everything is in working order again. I
assume the permission problem is really a bug in kernel 4.4.0-31.

I am denied access to the subfilesystems exported by my nfs server
(the top level filesystem itself is unaffected).

The client is reporting that I do not have the necessary permissions.
However, all was fine until the day before yesterday.

When I revert my client to 4.4.0-28, everything is in working order again. I
assume the permission problem is really a bug in kernel 4.4.0-31.

Title:
NFS client: access problems after updating to kernel 4.4.0-31-generic

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I am denied access to the subfilesystems exported by my nfs server
(the top level filesystem itself is unaffected).

The client is reporting that I do not have the necessary permissions.
However, all was fine until the day before yesterday.

When I revert my client to 4.4.0-28, everything is in working order again. I
assume the permission problem is really a bug in kernel 4.4.0-31.

Title:
No input events for FutureMax Dance Mat

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
On my ubuntu booth of my FutureMax Dance Mats does not generate any input
events. So they can not be used. The hardware is working, i verified this with
a windows PC.
The missing events were checked with cat /dev/input/eventX, evtest, xev.

On ubuntu the device is set up (udevadm has it, dmesg has it, evtest
sees it), module joydev is loaded but no input is recognized/ visible
  and /dev/input/eventX

Expected behavior: Plug and Play with the usb Dance Mat
Acutal behavior: No play possible as no input events appear and so the game
can not use it.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1600478] Re: Num Lock light turns off when pressing Ctrl

2016-07-17 Thread Anthony
** Description changed:

After every reset when I press either Ctrl key (for example Ctrl+Alt+T
to open the terminal) the Num Lock light turns off. The Shift key also
has this effect. I have to press the Num Lock button twice to turn the
  light back on.

The Num Lock does work properly, inserting numbers as it should when
pressing the keys, even with the indicator light off. This occurred on
two different machines: a Dell Vostro 430 and a Lenovo m57.

The light should not turn off this way, of course, so pressing Ctrl
should be fixed so that it doesn't affect the numeric keypad in this
  unusual way.

-
- I had previously categorized this under "numlockx" package, but I don't
- believe that was correct. There is a lot of emphasis placed on
- identifying the package containing the bug, but that is not always so
- easy to do, and when done is actually a major step in solving such
- elusive problems.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1600478] Re: Num Lock light turns off when pressing Ctrl

2016-07-17 Thread Anthony
Thanks Christopher.
I had edited the bug description on July 12th indicating numlockx was not
responsible, but I failed to mention that it was because it wasn't not
installed. I made sure and checked today, and numlockx is definitely not
installed, so I actually installed it and tested the Num Lock light and the
problem persisted. I then purged numlockx and the bug is still persisting.
Something else is the cause, and I will edit the bug description to clarify
that numlockx is definitely not the culprit because it was/is not even
installed.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1584475] Re: No input events for FutureMax Dance Mat

2016-07-17 Thread Xaratas
Thanks Mikko Perttunen,
i applied the patch against tag v4.5 on the mainline-crack repo, including the
Patches from Frank Praznik. And it works, evtest reports useable events (at
least for the first device) and Stepmania can pick up and work with booth of my
mats.

I attach the Patches from Frank Praznik for reference, as I can not find
them online in an kernel repository yet.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1603715] Re: bluetooth unavailable after rfkill hard (or soft) unblocking and after suspend/resume

Title:
bluetooth unavailable after rfkill hard (or soft) unblocking and after
  suspend/resume

Status in Bluez Utilities:
  New
Status in bluez package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
DELL Latitude E5510 has a hardware switch to disable and enable
bluetooth and wifi devices ("hard blocking" in terms of rfkill). In
terms of wifi, this works great: After hard unblocking, the device
resumes back to normal operation without any manual intervention. That
was also working with bluetooth as of ubuntu 14.04, kernel 4.2.

In ubuntu 16.04, kernel 4.4.0-31-generic, together with systemd, this
  is not working any more:

  After hard blocking and unblocking

  - bluetooth is not working at all
  - the applet-indicator remains gray
  - bluetooth cannot be enabled with the applet-indicator (see
https://storage6.static.itmages.com/i/16/0717/h_1468721829_7715160_83cd33bfba.png).
 Applet-indicator remains gray
  - rfkill list tells me that the kernel knows about the hard unblocking (turns
from "yes" to "no"):
  rfkill list bluetooth
  2: dell-bluetooth: Bluetooth
   Soft blocked: no
   Hard blocked: no
  8: hci0: Bluetooth
   Soft blocked: no
   Hard blocked: no

  The device is a
  sudo lsusb
Bus 002 Device 010: ID 413c:8187 Dell Computer Corp. DW375 Bluetooth Module

  Workaround: After a

  sudo service bluetooth restart

the bluetooth device turns back to normal operation and the applet-
indicator turns from gray to black (available).

Suggested fix: Make the workaround obsolete.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1603715] [NEW] bluetooth unavailable after rfkill hard (or soft) unblocking and after suspend/resume

2016-07-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

DELL Latitude E5510 has a hardware switch to disable and enable
bluetooth and wifi devices ("hard blocking" in terms of rfkill). In
terms of wifi, this works great: After hard unblocking, the device
resumes back to normal operation without any manual intervention. That
was also working with bluetooth as of ubuntu 14.04, kernel 4.2.

In ubuntu 16.04, kernel 4.4.0-31-generic, together with systemd, this is
not working any more:

After hard blocking and unblocking

- bluetooth is not working at all
- the applet-indicator remains gray
- bluetooth cannot be enabled with the applet-indicator (see
https://storage6.static.itmages.com/i/16/0717/h_1468721829_7715160_83cd33bfba.png).
 Applet-indicator remains gray
- rfkill list tells me that the kernel knows about the hard unblocking (turns
from "yes" to "no"):
rfkill list bluetooth
2: dell-bluetooth: Bluetooth
 Soft blocked: no
 Hard blocked: no
8: hci0: Bluetooth
 Soft blocked: no
 Hard blocked: no

The device is a
sudo lsusb
Bus 002 Device 010: ID 413c:8187 Dell Computer Corp. DW375 Bluetooth Module

Workaround: After a

sudo service bluetooth restart

the bluetooth device turns back to normal operation and the applet-
indicator turns from gray to black (available).

Suggested fix: Make the workaround obsolete.

Title:
Ubuntu turns monitor permanently off during boot

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
This is a regression, at least trusty (and prior) worked fine on this
  hardware.

Booting the Xenial installer image off USB also worked fine.

The system boots fine, however the monitor is in DPMS power-off and
does not ever turn back on. Switching VTs doesn't help, I have found
no way to get it switch on.

Removing '$vt_handoff' from grub resolves the problem and the system
  seems to work fine.

hyper-v: Keyboard dysfunctional while booting 14.04 Generation 2
  virtual machines on Hyper-V

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Hi folks,

While booting in to Generation 2 virtual machine mode, I noticed that
the keyboard stops functioning. It appears that the keyboard is
operational during the Grub 2 menu (see attached picture) but when we
get to the screen to select a language, the keyboard stops responding.
Is it feasible for you to check if the Hyper-V keyboard driver has
  been included from here:

  http://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-
  next.git/tree/drivers/input/serio/hyperv-keyboard.c?id=HEAD

  Please let me know.
  Thanks,
  Abhishek

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1584475] Re: No input events for FutureMax Dance Mat

Title:
No input events for FutureMax Dance Mat

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
On my ubuntu booth of my FutureMax Dance Mats does not generate any input
events. So they can not be used. The hardware is working, i verified this with
a windows PC.
The missing events were checked with cat /dev/input/eventX, evtest, xev.

On ubuntu the device is set up (udevadm has it, dmesg has it, evtest
sees it), module joydev is loaded but no input is recognized/ visible
  and /dev/input/eventX

Expected behavior: Plug and Play with the usb Dance Mat
Acutal behavior: No play possible as no input events appear and so the game
can not use it.

  acpi regression first bad commit

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I found what I believe is a regression on my Gateway ne570 laptop. It was
running mythbuntu 14.04 LTS and ubuntu 15.04 releases quite well. But when I
installed ubuntu 16.04 LTS, I found dmesg and kern.log were filling with
messages like this:
  Jul 10 17:01:10 buus-ne570 kernel: [ 57.741630] ACPI Error: Method reached
maximum reentrancy limit (255) (20150818/dsmethod-341)
  Jul 10 17:01:10 buus-ne570 kernel: [ 57.803775] ACPI Error: Method reached
maximum reentrancy limit (255) (20150818/dsmethod-341)
  Jul 10 17:01:10 buus-ne570 kernel: [ 57.866294] ACPI Error: Method reached
maximum reentrancy limit (255) (20150818/dsmethod-341)
  Jul 10 17:01:10 buus-ne570 kernel: [ 57.928403] ACPI Error: Method reached
maximum reentrancy limit (255) (20150818/dsmethod-341)

These messages would be repeated several times a second, and then
pause for several seconds, then start again. I believe they are the
cause of more sluggish behavior than with the older *Buntu releases.

git bisecting the linux-stable kernel led me to the bad commit:

  # first bad commit: [02b771b64b73226052d6e731a0987db3b47281e9] ACPI /
EC: Fix an issue caused by the serialized _Qxx evaluations

  commit 02b771b64b73226052d6e731a0987db3b47281e9
  Author: Lv Zheng
  Date: Wed Aug 12 11:12:02 2015 +0800

ACPI / EC: Fix an issue caused by the serialized _Qxx evaluations

It is proven that Windows evaluates _Qxx handlers in a parallel way. This
patch follows this fact, splits _Qxx evaluations from the NOTIFY queue to
form a separate queue, so that _Qxx evaluations can be queued up on
different CPUs rather than being queued up on a CPU0 bound queue.
Event handling related callbacks are also renamed and sorted in this
patch.

2016-07-17 Thread Thomas
Perhaps it is helpful to report my experiences to this topic. My Hardware: Acer
Travelmate B115 with Pentium N3540, Kingston SSD SV300S37A240G.
One month ago I updated the system from 14.04 to 16.04. I got two problems. The
first was a non working Broadcom WLAN. But this was the simple solution: The
STA driver failed to load, if secure boot was activated in bios. The second
problem was this terrible freezing after short uptime. I found only the
solution with the kernel parameter „intel_idle.max_cstate=1". This option
worked, but the battery lifetime decreased appreciably. Now I read the last
entries in this thread, so I decided to make some experiments. I updated the
firmware of the SSD drive with the tool from Kingston by using Windows.
Unfortunately I didn't note the old version of the firmware. Afterward I
removed the cstate boot option. I also not forgot to call update_grub. But -
since I‘ve done this, I saw no freeze anymore.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1509723] Re: [Acer Aspire ES1-311] Ubuntu freezes occasionally

2016-07-17 Thread Matt
Ubuntu 15.10 on a Dell XPS 8900 was freezing several times a day
regardless of which kernel I used. Froze more frequently when I used
dual monitors. Problem disappeared completely when I switched my
graphics driver from Nouveau to Nvidia (clicked on Settings in Software
Updater, selected the Additional Drivers tab then selected the latest
Nvidia option).

[Acer Aspire ES1-311] Ubuntu freezes occasionally

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
I am running Ubuntu 15.10 and my notebook freezes occasionally. I had
the same issue with Ubuntu 15.04, but I thought that 15.10 might
change it. I am running Ubuntu on an Acer Aspire ES1-311 (P1D5).

I have no clue what causes this, my system just freezes and I can't do
anything anymore. ctrl+alt+f1 doesn't work as well as alt+print+REISUB
doesn't work either. It's just frozen. I have to power down manually.

Last time I was programming only with a gnome-terminal and atom
(editor) opened. I checked some log files but I couldn't find anything
  suspicious.

  Any ideas?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1603735] [NEW] Runs install scripts when requesting removal

2016-07-17 Thread rebroad
Public bug reported:

This has been running on many previous versions for as long as I can
remember now, and I expect all future versions to date.

Bug also mentioned here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/linux-lts-trusty/+bug/1501884

Any chance of a fix soon? I'd like to help submit fixes, so if someone
can point me in the direction of the repository I can have a go.

This is still an issue in xenial. Triggered when running "sudo apt-get
autoremove" to remove old linux-images. What is the correct package to
report this bug against please?

Bug description:
  Hi,

The postrm maintainer script in the binary packages linux-image-
extra-*-generic runs the scripts in /etc/kernel/postinst.d instead of
  those in /etc/kernel/postrm.d.

This can have all sorts of undesirable consequences depending on what
other packages add to those directories, but I noticed it because it
caused /etc/kernel/postinst.d/apt-auto-removal to make the wrong
decisions leaving my servers with only one installed kernel left.

  Cheers,
  Seb

  # Action: install correct package

  rm /var/cache/apt/archives/linux-headers-4.4.0-31_4.4.0-31.50_all.deb
  aptitude

  Package downloaded and installed normally.

Download is secured by https, right? So should be okay.

  # Hypothesis: local corruption, hardware bug?

  * Computer is one year old, using it near-daily for relatively
storage-intensive work, appears sane.
  * Storage is few-week-old SSD.
  * dpkg -V shows nothing strange.

  Conclusion: not conclusive.

  # Hypothesis: local corruption, software bug?

  * System installed on new SSD using regular Xubuntu 16.04 64-bit installer,
ext4 with default options.
  * dpkg -V shows nothing strange.

  Conclusion: not conclusive.

  # Hypothesis: package corrupted on download site?

Is fixed by now, then, since apt redownloaded from same site
  (fr.archive.ubuntu.com).

  Conclusion: not conclusive.
