[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1643527] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2016-11-26 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From ofe...@il.ibm.com 2016-11-27 01:26 EDT---
Hi,

at the moment i am forced to bring devices online and make them
persistent in 2 phases... I am aware of chzdev being able to do both.
thank you for that.

i understand why LVM is preventing my dasdfmt... that is fine. i missed
that.

the general case is when i get back "No such device" although i have
varied the device online, it is visible in lsdasd and i have used
udevadm settle.

this behavior was consistent for me. it always failed...

as i mentioned in comment 15, the user i was using was created without a
specific shell... causing it to use the default shell...

changing the user to run with bash worked around the issue. so i have my
workaround... this solved the problem for me and i am fine with this
solution.

with that said... you can dig further about 19a in the sosreport... you will
see that i did brought 19a online (only not using chzdev).
that should be a valid and supported scenario... i think you should check
that...

thanks!

Title:
dasdfmt fails after vary online. syslog show strange message "The disk
layout of the DASD is not supported"

Status in Ubuntu on IBM z Systems:
  Incomplete
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Problem description:

 /sbin/dasdfmt -b 4096 -d cdl -f /dev/disk/by-path/ccw-0.0.0199 -y

  dasdfmt fails with:
/sbin/dasdfmt: Unable to open device /dev/disk/by-path/ccw-0.0.0199: No
such device

looking at the syslog i can see a strange message that only comes out when i
am having this issue:
  Nov 21 08:52:12 JUUB16MS kernel: [ 67.412484] dasd-eckd 0.0.0199: The disk
layout of the DASD is not supported
  lsdasd returns:
 root@JUUB16MS:~# lsdasd
Bus-ID Status Name Device Type BlkSz Size Blocks

  0.0.0193 n/f dasdc 94:8ECKD
  0.0.0196 active dasdd 94:12 FBA 51240MB 81920

  0.0.0198 n/f dasdg 94:24 ECKD
  0.0.0199 n/f dasdh 94:28 ECKD

you can see that the 199 is not format and can't be formatted...
a workaround is to vary the disk offline and then online again.
this time it will start ok and you can format it and work with it.
  --
just to be clear... this happens after linking to an un-formatted disk
dynamically and then vary it online...
  for example:
 vmcp link '*' 199 199
 echo 1 > /sys/bus/ccw/devices/0.0.0199/online
 /sbin/chzdev dasd-eckd 0199 -e -p
 /sbin/dasdfmt -b 4096 -d cdl -f /dev/disk/by-path/ccw-0.0.0199 -y

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1642356] Re: Ubuntu 16.10 no longer connects to Panasonic projector through vga

2016-11-26 Thread Jason Moore
I found out that if I chain a VGA to HDMI adapter with an HDMI to mini-
displayport adapter that the projector is recognized and all works as
expected. But I'm not able to get a VGA to mini-diplayport adapter to
work.

Title:
Ubuntu 16.10 no longer connects to Panasonic projector through vga

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X250 and I was running 16.04 and regularly
using a Panasonic PT-FIV430 FW430 WXGA projector with no issues. Once
I upgraded to 16.10 the operating system no longer detects the
projector through VGA (or if I use a mini-display adapter to connect
to the mini-display port). The projector is not detected at all. I
have confirmed that the VGA port works fine with a external monitor
and it also does not work with a different Panasonic projector model
(I didn't take that model number down).

In close to ten years of Ubuntu use this is the first time I've had
trouble connecting to something through the VGA.

Is there anyway to force this connection? I have to use this projector
in my classroom and I'm currently in a pickle.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1630063] Re: specific USB devices disconnect and don't reconnect

Title:
specific USB devices disconnect and don't reconnect

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress
Status in linux source package in Yakkety:
  In Progress

Bug description:
2 USB ports randomly disconnect and don't reconnect (it's always the
same two), and in dmesg all I get is

  "
  [ 1276.916458] ohci-pci :00:12.0: HcDoneHead not written back; disabled
  [ 1276.916467] ohci-pci :00:12.0: HC died; cleaning up
  [ 1276.916553] usb 3-1: USB disconnect, device number 2
  [ 1277.017302] usb 3-2: USB disconnect, device number 3
  "
This only started happening when Yakkety went to the 4.8 branch, with 4.7
branch this doesn't occur, hence the bug report since it's unlikely that a
hardware failure will only stick to one OS and one branch of the kernel for
that OS. (these USB ports don't randomly die on Windows or BSD, I've tested
that in the past couple of days)

Title:
  Sound fails after suspend state

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I have a new Dell XPS 13 9360 with Ubuntu 16.04 4.4.0-47-generic. Whenever I
close the lid, it is set to suspend the OS state. Whenever I resume, the sound
card and settings all appear normal, however no sound comes out of the
speakers. Restarting the computer does not restore the sound state, but
shutting down and starting up does. Similar issues occur with the touchscreen
capabilities.

  Sound fails after suspend state

Bug description:
  I have a new Dell XPS 13 9360 with Ubuntu 16.04 4.4.0-47-generic. Whenever I
close the lid, it is set to suspend the OS state. Whenever I resume, the sound
card and settings all appear normal, however no sound comes out of the

  Sound fails after suspend state

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I have a new Dell XPS 13 9360 with Ubuntu 16.04 4.4.0-47-generic.
Whenever I close the lid, it is set to suspend the OS state. Whenever
I resume, the sound card and settings all appear normal, however no
sound comes out of the speakers. Restarting the computer does not
restore the sound state, but shutting down and starting up does.
Similar issues occur with the touchscreen capabilities.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1645011] Re: CyPS/2 Cypress Trackpad driver errors

Title:
  CyPS/2 Cypress Trackpad driver errors

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  System:Kernel: 4.4.0-47-generic x86_64 (64 bit gcc: 5.4.0)
 Desktop: MATE 1.14.1 (Gtk 3.18.9-1ubuntu3.1)

Mouse cursor of the Trackpad does not move, and the slightest touch of
trackpad - which is inevitable when typing on the laptop keyboard,
without any direct intended touch of the trackpad - generates lots of
wrong signals, like the input focus jumps to another application, the
typed text becomes deleted, etc. The computer is unusable without
  external mouse and keyboard.

Intended touch of the trackpad hangs the system: the cursor of the
external mouse keeps moving, but no longer can select text or close a
  window.

  Here is current config info:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1645011] Re: CyPS/2 Cypress Trackpad driver errors

2016-11-26 Thread Victor
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected sarah

** Description changed:

  System:Kernel: 4.4.0-47-generic x86_64 (64 bit gcc: 5.4.0)
 Desktop: MATE 1.14.1 (Gtk 3.18.9-1ubuntu3.1)
 Distro: Linux Mint 18 Sarah
  Machine: System: China product: ZM180 v: 1.0
 Mobo: China model: ZM180 v: Type2 - Board Version
 Bios: INSYDE v: f date: 11/21/2014

Mouse cursor of the Trackpad does not move, and the slightest touch of
trackpad - which is inevitable when typing on the laptop keyboard,
without any direct intended touch of the trackpad - generates lots of
wrong signals, like the input focus jumps to another application, the
typed text becomes deleted, etc. The computer is unusable without
  external mouse and keyboard.

Intended touch of the trackpad hangs the system: the cursor of the
external mouse keeps moving, but no longer can select text or close a
  window.

Title:
  CyPS/2 Cypress Trackpad driver errors

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  System:Kernel: 4.4.0-47-generic x86_64 (64 bit gcc: 5.4.0)
 Desktop: MATE 1.14.1 (Gtk 3.18.9-1ubuntu3.1)

Intended touch of the trackpad hangs the system: the cursor of the
external mouse keeps moving, but no longer can select text or close a
  window.

  Here is current config info:

Title:
  CyPS/2 Cypress Trackpad driver errors

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  System:Kernel: 4.4.0-47-generic x86_64 (64 bit gcc: 5.4.0)
 Desktop: MATE 1.14.1 (Gtk 3.18.9-1ubuntu3.1)

Intended touch of the trackpad hangs the system: the cursor of the
external mouse keeps moving, but no longer can select text or close a
  window.

  Here is current config info:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1641322] Re: frequently lost connection to nvme

2016-11-26 Thread Thomas M Steenholdt
I haven't found a positive fix for this issue in 4.9-rc6, but FWIW, I've
been running 4.9-rc6 for a couple of days without encountering this
issue.

I'll let you know how this goes after further testing.

  frequently lost connection to nvme

Bug description:
Since before the release of Yakkety Yak, I've been having problems
with a new laptop with a Samsung nvme device: 05:00.0 Non-Volatile

  [NVM Express])

For whatever reason, I sometimes (often) loose connection to the
device, causing the entire system to stop working until a powercycle
has been completed. I can go a full day without having the problem -
Just as I can have an entire night of the system just refusing to be
stable for long enough to be usable.

I've tried with official kernels and mainline kernels of 4.8 and 4.9
versions of the kernel, but all show the exact same problem at one
  point or another.

I'm aware that this COULD be a hardware-related issue, but have no
real way to be certain at this point. The system is a brand new Lenovo
  ThinkPad T460s.

Dmesg always shows the following few lines, in association with the
  error:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1348890] Re: Asus UX32LN: Brightness keys Fn+F5 and Fn+F6 don't generate evdev event

2016-11-26 Thread Vincent Gerris
Sorry, I forgot to add something.
Earlier I added a x11 conf file:
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
with content:
Section "Device"
Identifier "card0"
Driver "intel"
Option "Backlight" "intel_backlight"
BusID "PCI:0:2:0"
EndSection

This seems to be needed to actually have the :
xbacklight -dec 10
xbacklight -inc 10
working.

(the device is there and doing this as root will still work without conf:
echo 220 > /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness ).

I am going to see if I can fix this and otherwise file a kernel bug.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1348890] Re: Asus UX32LN: Brightness keys Fn+F5 and Fn+F6 don't generate evdev event

2016-11-26 Thread Vincent Gerris
I remembered someone writing a good article and found it:
http://hansdegoede.livejournal.com/13889.html

For me this command shows events
sudo evemu-record /dev/input/event3

but not for my FN+F5, F6 or A combination.

According to his article, it should be filed as a kernel bug.

For everyone else, please check the article and see where your issue is and
file the proper bug.
Good luck :)

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1348890] Re: Asus UX32LN: Brightness keys Fn+F5 and Fn+F6 don't generate evdev event

2016-11-26 Thread Vincent Gerris
I have a UX305FA. I do not use any kernel parameters and the graphical controls
work when doing:
sudo apt-get install xbacklight

Then under open Settings>keyboard>shortcuts

Add custom shortcut keys with:

xbacklight -dec 10

xbacklight -inc 10

I used ALT+F5 and F6.

I didn't notice the ambiant sensor on the A until now :).
It doesn't work for me either.

Does anyone know which event should be send so we can remap it as a work
around?

I run Ubuntu 16.10 with 4.8.0-27 kernel.

I hope some developers can pick this up? A lot of folks are affected.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 792085] Re: Automatic remount of safely removed USB 3.0 drive

2016-11-26 Thread Norbert
Dear Ubuntu developers!

Please apply SUSE's patch on kernels in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, 14.04 LTS,
16.04 LTS, 16.10 - http://kernel.suse.com/cgit/kernel-
source/commit/?id=43e64619bd7eeb1f3d287e8faffc16ed3c1f2a2b .

Why it is so difficult?
Why you ignore this serious bug?

Many users have USB 3.0 on their computers for at least seven years.
Switching to OpenSUSE from Ubuntu is not good option.
