[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1641393] Re: 'Elan Touchpad' not detected in Ubuntu 16.04.1 Gigabyte P57K-965-603S Fresh install
To help with fault-finding, I made these changes after I tested the upstream kernels. Changes as per: http://askubuntu.com/questions/763584/elantech-touchpad-not-working-on-ubuntu /etc/default/grub GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="i8042.reset quiet splash" GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="" ^the above change in default boot made no difference, the touchpad was unresponsive. Then tried both of the below changes: /etc/default/grub GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="i8042.kbdreset=1 i8042.reset quiet splash" GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="" /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf Section "InputClass" Identifier "touchpad catchall" Driver "synaptics" MatchIsTouchpad "on" # Below two options as per http://askubuntu.com/questions/763584/elantech-touch$ Option "TapButton1" "1" Option "VertEdgeScroll" "1" At the moment, the touchpad is working well. In the past, the behaviour has been intermittent. It may or may not be a fix, but these changes *appear* to have had the touchpad recognised. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1373116] Re: cdc_acm causes Pantech UML295 reset
I found that if you downgrade the modemmanager the UML295 indeed works as it should. However, it breaks my Sierra Wireless 340U. If you use a recent modem manager the 340U works but it breaks the UML295. Know that I am dual booting with Win10 and Ubuntu. I have a workaround. It seems that the initiation sequence takes a certain amount of time for the UML295 to complete properly. If you interrupt the boot process and let it sit you can allow the UML295 enough time to initiate and then it works. It doesn't take very long actually. When you enter GRUB the default choice gives you 15 second hold before booting. This is not long enough. If you drop down to the next choice "Advanced Options for Ubuntu" the timer is killed and it will sit in GRUB indefinitely. Now plug in the UML295. All you have to do is wait long enough for the UML295 to initiate and stick on. You know this has happened after it flashes green 3-4 times and then becomes green without flashing. Now you can proceed to boot Ubuntu and the UML295 will work fine. The caveat is that you cannot unplug it and plug it back in again but you don't really do that anyway so it is not a big problem. You can toggle it on and off in network manager without a problem. This works for my Lenovo and Toshiba notebooks. This did not work for my Asus notebooks but using the paradigm and being persistent I discovered that if you boot into the BIOS you also stop the boot process. Now you can plug in the UML295 and wait in the same way for it to initialize as above. Then you can exit BIOS without saving and continue into GRUB and boot in the usual way and it sticks. Humm... So I tried the BIOS trick and it did not work with the Lenovo. Go figure. The Toshiba has a different kind of BIOS forcing me to boot into the Win10 login screen and then exit from there into GRUB so can't say about that computer. In my mind's eye it is all about the initiate timing of the UML295 and how it interacts with the Ubuntu boot. It's hard for me to think that more than few lines of code would fix it if this problem has enough priority for someone to look at it. So now with the latest modem manager (good) my 340U just works and my UML295 works fine with a little dance when I boot. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1373116 Title: cdc_acm causes Pantech UML295 reset Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Description: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS Release: 14.04 When I upgraded to 14.04 (3.13 kernel), the Pantech UML295 4G Modem stopped functioning properly. Expected behavior: The modem starts up with a red LED lit while it initialized. Once a connection is established, linux recognizes a USB ethernet connection (cdc_ether), and the LED on the device goes green and flashing, indicating active connection. This status remains until the device is disconnected. Observed behavior: The modem starts up normally, getting to the point that a cdc_ether device is set up and a working internet connection is established. Shortly after this, the modem's light goes blue (an LED color that the documentation shows no information for), the ethernet connection fails, and the device goes back to the beginning of its initialization. The process will repeat indefinitely. This behavior can be avoided, and a connection maintaned, by blacklisting cdc_acm. However, this breaks many other USB serial devices. Tried a second time by pressing Esc once the splash screen showed up and I saw that it reaches the line "Reached target shutdown" and just stops there, no matter how long I leave it there the machine won't turn off. I also tried a Kubuntu 16.04 fresh install on the same machine and it hanged too at the final splash screen where the pulsating logo stopped. Then I tried with Esc only to see the exact same line in the end. The issue seems to affect lately quite many users as shown by the google results of the past month / week or so. I have also tried shutting down from the console with shutdown -and all the parameters after that suggested online- and sudo poweroff but unfortunately they didn't do the trick. The exact same situation occurred. Unmounting the swap as suggested online doesn't work. Also rebooting the system is not working either due to the same issue. So right now the only way for me to poweroff the machine is to press the power button on the keyboard continuously. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Install OS 2.Do something, anything or nothing 3.Try to shutdown or reboot Actual Results: The computer is not shutting down: "Reached target shutdown" and hangs there. Expected Results: Powering off the machine. For what it's worth, closing the lid won't suspend the system, but using the menu buttons for suspension will do it. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1490349] Re: 15:10 and 16.04: bluetoothd reports "Not enough handles to register service" at start
I just tried running the command to turn off le when connected to a device and I got the same message 'status 0x0a (Busy)' so perhaps you are already connected to something. My suggestion is to unpair all devices (if you have any paired) and running the command: rfkill block bluetooth That command soft blocks the bluetooth adapter - so it won't be able to attempt any connections. After is it blocked try running the le commannd again (sudo btmgmt le off) Then unblock the bluetooth adapter by: rfkill unblock bluetooth. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to bluez in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1490349 Title: 15:10 and 16.04: bluetoothd reports "Not enough handles to register service" at start Status in bluez package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: On 15:10 after the bluetooth service has been stopped and restarted it is not possible to scan or connect to devices: $ sudo systemctl start bluetooth $ journalctl --unit=bluetooth | tail -n 19 | awk '{$1="";$2="";$4="";print $0}' 23:31:53 systemd[1]: Starting Bluetooth service... 23:31:53 bluetoothd[16647]: Bluetooth daemon 5.33 23:31:53 systemd[1]: Started Bluetooth service. 23:31:53 bluetoothd[16647]: Starting SDP server 23:31:53 bluetoothd[16647]: Bluetooth management interface 1.9 initialized 23:31:53 bluetoothd[16647]: Failed to obtain handles for "Service Changed" characteristic 23:31:53 bluetoothd[16647]: Not enough free handles to register service 23:31:53 bluetoothd[16647]: Error adding Link Loss service 23:31:53 bluetoothd[16647]: Not enough free handles to register service 23:31:53 bluetoothd[16647]: Not enough free handles to register service 23:31:53 bluetoothd[16647]: Not enough free handles to register service 23:31:53 bluetoothd[16647]: Current Time Service could not be registered 23:31:53 bluetoothd[16647]: gatt-time-server: Input/output error (5) 23:31:53 bluetoothd[16647]: Not enough free handles to register service 23:31:53 bluetoothd[16647]: Not enough free handles to register service 23:31:53 bluetoothd[16647]: Sap driver initialization failed. 23:31:53 bluetoothd[16647]: sap-server: Operation not permitted (1) 23:31:53 bluetoothd[16647]: Endpoint registered: sender=:1.440 path=/MediaEndpoint/A2DPSource 23:31:53 bluetoothd[16647]: Endpoint registered: sender=:1.440 path=/MediaEndpoint/A2DPSink And $ bluetoothctl [NEW] Controller 00:1F:3A:E0:0A:AF hephaestion.lan.iam.tj [default] [NEW] Device 00:0A:95:4B:BD:C2 Apple Wireless Keyboard [NEW] Device 00:07:61:3B:86:98 Bluetooth Travel Mouse [bluetooth]# scan on Failed to start discovery: org.bluez.Error.NotReady To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez/+bug/1490349/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1490349] Re: 15:10 and 16.04: bluetoothd reports "Not enough handles to register service" at start
Just to -perhaps- add to any confusion: when I submit the command "sudo btmgmt le off" in terminal, I expected the command to simply do its thing (switch off le) and then return cli to the "waiting for input" status. Well, it doesn't: when I submit the command and enter my password and press nothing happens. To get back to "input mode" in terminal I have to press CTRL-C. (I hope this description makes any sense.)
