ASUS R751 L CLickpad not detected after installing Ubuntu

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
After the installation of Ubuntu 16.04 on to my ASUS R 751L Model
(from Windows 10) the Clickpad is not detected or does not work at
all. I could not find a Ubuntu installation for the ASUS Smart gesture
  online. A mouse works.

memory_stress_ng, as part of server certification is failing for IBM
Power S812LC(TN71-BP012) in bare metal mode. Failing in this case is
defined by the test locking up the server in an unrecoverable state
which only a reboot will fix.

I will be attaching screen and kern logs for the failures and a
successful run on 14.04 on the same server.

may help. Thanks.

Touchpad not recognized on Lenovo Ideapad Flex 4 running Ubuntu 16.10

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I installed Ubuntu 16.10 on my Lenovo Ideapad Flex 4 laptop. Ubuntu does not
recognize the touchpad (it does recognize the touch screen nicely though). When
I run xinput -list, I do not see the touchpad. I dual boot with Windows 10,
which recognizes the touchpad from Elantech. I searched online for days and I
found Elantech drivers for Ubuntu 14.04, however, I was unable to load older
versions of Ubuntu on my laptop. Do you expect to support the Elantech touchpad
in future updates? I attached a screen shot of my xinput -list output. Please
let me know if you require any additional information. Thank you.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1669611] Re: Regression in 4.4.0-65-generic causes very frequent system crashes

2017-03-03 Thread John Johansen
The issue appears to be refcount related, I am still chasing this one
down but for this release we should revert

UBUNTU: SAUCE: apparmor: fix lock ordering for mkdir
UBUNTU: SAUCE: apparmor: fix leak on securityfs pin count
UBUNTU: SAUCE: apparmor: fix reference count leak when
securityfs_setup_d_inode() fails
UBUNTU: SAUCE: apparmor: fix not handling error case when securityfs_pin_fs()
fails

a kernel with these patches reverted has been tested and it fixes the
issue

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1667920] Re: login screen freeze

2017-03-03 Thread Alexandru Chirvasitu
I've enabled -proposed, but when running apt update no linux packages
are listed (I've tried with apt list --upgradable). I am sure the system
sees the -proposed package archive because I get plenty of suggestions
for upgrade, just nothing that looks like a kernel.

So which package would I have to install?

Title:
  login screen freeze

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Running an up-to-date (as of Feb 25 2017) 16.04 / Unity on an old MSI
  U160 netbook.

After a recent update to kernel 4.4.0-63 I have started getting frozen
login screens. The touchpad and keyboard are completely dead (before I
ever get to enter my password), and my only way out is to force
  shutdown.

I can start GRUB on boot and go for an earlier version instead, but
everything past 4.4.0-62 freezes in the same fashion (that's what I'm
currently running as a temporary fix); a newer update to 4.4.0-64 has
  not fixed the issue.

  ProblemType: Bug
  DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1667920] Re: login screen freeze

2017-03-03 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test this latest kernel and post back if it
resolves this bug?
See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed.

Thank you in advance!

  login screen freeze

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1669864] Re: fan does'nt work on HP Elitebook Laptop

2017-03-03 Thread Joseph Salisbury
This issue appears to be an upstream bug, since you tested the latest
upstream kernel. Would it be possible for you to open an upstream bug
report[0]? That will allow the upstream Developers to examine the issue,
and may provide a quicker resolution to the bug.

Please follow the instructions on the wiki page[0]. The first step is to
email the appropriate mailing list. If no response is received, then a
bug may be opened on bugzilla.kernel.org.

Once this bug is reported upstream, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-
reported-upstream'.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1635721] Re: Add a driver for Amazon Elastic Network Adapters (ENA)

2017-03-03 Thread Kamal Mostafa
@Mathias-

We're working towards getting full ENA support enabled as part of the
process of switching the Ubuntu AMI's to a custom Ubuntu kernel for AWS,
some time in the near future. In the meantime, you are welcome to use
our in-test development AMI's which already include that custom kernel
and do have enaSupport enabled. You can find those AMI's by searching
the AWS Community AMI's for "ubuntu/images-testing-dev/hvm 201703" (or a
more recent MM).

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1602888] Re: Dell Inspiron 7559 fans do not shut off once started, even when cool

2017-03-03 Thread Ionescu Daniel
@d-bob-1 and @Peter

Well, you are right!

I omitted to say that I returned at the beginning of the year a Dell 7559 (with
Win10) after only 24 hours of use!!!
The reason was that, after I made an video driver update for nvidia gc, video
was suddenly freeze watching on youtube !!!, and fans went crazy. It was also
posting a message like NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver stopped responding -
bla bla
Ofcourse, Dell utilities were saying that everything is ok.
With Nvidia driver disabled, running only on Intel HD Graphics, everything was
ok.
My assumption was that they put on the market an insufficiently tested model in
terms of interaction between Intel HD graphics and Nvidia video platforms, but
this is not all.

Regarding my Vostro 3568 (Ubuntu 16.04), with only Intel HDG 620,
sensors command output:

acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1:+25.0°C (crit = +107.0°C)

coretemp-isa-
Adapter: ISA adapter
Physical id 0: +36.0°C (high = +100.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
Core 0: +33.0°C (high = +100.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
Core 1: +34.0°C (high = +100.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)

dell_smm-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
Processor Fan: 2826 RPM
CPU:+36.0°C
Ambient:+34.0°C

with a lot of tasks running.

After couple of minutes, with same tasks running:

acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1:+25.0°C (crit = +107.0°C)

coretemp-isa-
Adapter: ISA adapter
Physical id 0: +36.0°C (high = +100.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
Core 0: +33.0°C (high = +100.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
Core 1: +34.0°C (high = +100.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)

dell_smm-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
Processor Fan:0 RPM
CPU:+36.0°C
Ambient:+34.0°C

It looks like Dell and Intel joined hands for a processor warming
prevention policy. Unfortunately dell use loud (cheap?:))fans.

I have the latest bios installed, also the Kabylake GT video driver and
i'm Using Intel microcode firmware under Additional drivers.

Title:
Dell Inspiron 7559 fans do not shut off once started, even when cool

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Running Ubuntu 16.04 on a Dell Inspiron 7559 laptop there appears to
be an issue with the fan control. When I first boot up the machine the
fans are off. However, after the laptop warms up under normal usage,
the fans kick on and then never shut off again. Even when the CPU
cools down to below 35c, the fans will continue to run.

If I suspend the the laptop, and then immediately wake it up again
then fans are once again off, until it warms up again. So
essentially, once the fans start they don't seem to ever shut off.

Fans seem to work normally under Windows 10. They turn on as needed,
and then turn off once the laptop cools down.

I've tried the various BIOS updates that Dell has released, without
success. I am currently running Dell's latest BIOS for this laptop
  (v1.1.8)

Below is the output of lm-sensors showing the fans running when the
CPU is at a cool 35c

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1669864] Re: fan does'nt work on HP Elitebook Laptop

2017-03-03 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.10 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Bug description:
In order to have the correct VF driver to support SR-IOV in Azure, the
Mellanox OFED distribution needs to be included in the kernel and the
image. Mellanox's drivers are not upstream, but they are available
  from here:

https://www.mellanox.com/page/products_dyn?product_family=26=linux_sw_drivers=3nnhohirh5htv6dnp1uk7tf487

While this configuration is not explicitly listed as supported in the
release notes, Microsoft and Mellanox engineers are working on the
corresponding Windows Server 2016 PF driver to support this VF driver
  in operation in Ubuntu guests.

I file file a corresponding rebase request to pick up the PCI
passthrough and other SR-IOV work done for the Hyper-V capabilities in
  the upstream 4.9 kernel.

Only 64-bit support for Ubuntu 16.04's HWE kernel is needed.

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
The following two patches to pci-hyperv were submitted upstream but
missed getting pulled into Bjorn's tree. They are needed to fix an
issue discovered working on SR-IOV on Azure.

Patch 1: hv_pci_devices_present is called in hv_pci_remove when we
remove a PCI device from host (e.g. by disabling SRIOV on a device).
In hv_pci_remove, the bus is already removed before the call, so we
don't need to rescan the bus in the workqueue scheduled from
hv_pci_devices_present. By introducing status hv_pcibus_removed, we
  can avoid this situation.

Patch 2: A PCI_EJECT message can arrive at the same time we are
calling pci_scan_child_bus in the workqueue for the previous
PCI_BUS_RELATIONS message or in create_root_hv_pci_bus(), in this case
we could potentailly modify the bus from multiple places. Properly
  lock the bus access.

[Hyper-V] Fix ring buffer handling to avoid host throttling

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed
Status in linux source package in Xenial:
  Fix Released
Status in linux source package in Yakkety:
  Fix Released
Status in linux source package in Zesty:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
An unfortunate side effect of some of the recent work done to improve
ring buffer performance made a situation where the host would
interpret guest requests as a denial of service attack, pausing guest
communications for five seconds. This series of fixes corrects this
  problem.

Needed for each kernel that has included a389fcfd2cb5 ("Drivers: hv:
vmbus: Fix signaling logic in hv_need_to_signal_on_read()")

https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=74198eb4a42c4a3c4fbef08fa01a291a282f7c2e

Drivers: hv: vmbus: Base host signaling strictly on the ring state
One of the factors that can result in the host concluding that a given
guest in mounting a DOS attack is if the guest generates interrupts
to the host when the host is not expecting it. If these "spurious"
interrupts reach a certain rate, the host can throttle the guest to
minimize the impact. The host computation of the "expected number
of interrupts" is strictly based on the ring transitions. Until
the host logic is fixed, base the guest logic to interrupt solely
  on the ring state.

https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=1f6ee4e7d83586c8b10bd4f2f4346353d04ce884

Drivers: hv: vmbus: On write cleanup the logic to interrupt the host
Signal the host when we determine the host is to be signaled.
The currrent code determines the need to signal in the ringbuffer
code and actually issues the signal elsewhere. This can result
in the host viewing this interrupt as spurious since the host may also
poll the channel. Make the necessary adjustments.

  https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-
  next.git/commit/?id=3372592a140db69fd63837e81f048ab4abf8111e

Drivers: hv: vmbus: On the read path cleanup the logic to interrupt the host
Signal the host when we determine the host is to be signaled -
on th read path. The currrent code determines the need to signal in the
ringbuffer code and actually issues the signal elsewhere. This can result
in the host viewing this interrupt as spurious since the host may also
poll the channel. Make the necessary adjustments.

  https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-
  next.git/commit/?id=433e19cf33d34bb6751c874a9c00980552fe508c

Drivers: hv: vmbus: finally fix hv_need_to_signal_on_read()
Commit a389fcfd2cb5 ("Drivers: hv: vmbus: Fix signaling logic in
  hv_need_to_signal_on_read()")
added the proper mb(), but removed the test "prev_write_sz < pending_sz"
  when making the signal decision.

As a result, the guest can signal the host unnecessarily,
and then the host can throttle the guest because the host
thinks the guest is buggy or malicious; finally the user
running stress test can perceive intermittent freeze of
  the guest.

This patch brings back the test, and properly handles the
in-place consumption APIs used by NetVSC (see get_next_pkt_raw(),
  put_pkt_raw() and commit_rd_index()).

Fixes: a389fcfd2cb5 ("Drivers: hv: vmbus: Fix signaling logic in
  hv_need_to_signal_on_read()")

  yakkety/yakkety/ppc64el/g/glibc/20170224_215457_59b80@/log.gz

testsuite fails. Previous runs didn't seem to execute that test.

2017-03-03 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Is this failure new with 4.8.0-40.43? Does the -39 kernel also hit the
failure?
