[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1676635] Re: [Hyper-V] Implement Hyper-V PTP Source
@Alberto Ornaghi. Are you running in Azure or in your own Hyper-V host? If you have access to the Hyper-V host, you can disable the TimeSync integration service from the VM settings. Otherwise, you can create a script that runs "echo 2dd1ce17-079e- 403c-b352-a1921ee207ee > /sys/bus/vmbus/drivers/hv_util/unbind" upon startup. This disables TimeSync from within the guest VM. Every 5 seconds there is a time sample from the host which triggers do_settimeofday[64](). While the time from the host is very accurate such adjustments may cause issues: - Time is jumping forward and backward, some applications may misbehave. - In case an NTP server runs in parallel and uses something else for time sync (network, PTP,...) system time will never converge. - Systemd starts annoying you by printing "Time has been changed" every 5 seconds to the system log. Instead of doing in-kernel time adjustments offload the work to an NTP client by exposing TimeSync messages as a PTP device. Users may now decide what they want to use as a source. I tested the solution with chrony, the config was: refclock PHC /dev/ptp0 poll 3 dpoll -2 offset 0 The result I'm seeing is accurate enough, the time delta between the guest and the host is almost always within [-10us, +10us], the in-kernel solution was giving us comparable results. I also tried implementing PPS device instead of PTP by using not currently used Hyper-V synthetic timers (we use only one of four for clockevent) but with PPS source only chrony wasn't able to give me the required accuracy, the delta often more that 100us. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1686815] Re: Missing Bluetooth firmware for intel 8265 on Ubuntu 16.04
I can second that. I have a Gigabyte GC-WB867D-I card. The bluetooth was not working before the installation of linux-firmware_1.157.11~pre201704282144_all.deb and it starts to work after the installation. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux-firmware in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1686815 Title: Missing Bluetooth firmware for intel 8265 on Ubuntu 16.04 Status in linux-firmware package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in linux-firmware source package in Xenial: Confirmed Bug description: Bluetooth doesn't work in Ubuntu 16.04 on systems with Intel 8265 wireless modules that haven't yet had firmware loaded onto them. dmesg reports the following: Bluetooth: hci0: Direct firmware load for intel/ibt-12-16.sfi failed with error -2 This could be difficult for many people to reproduce, since installing a later version of Ubuntu once will load the necessary firmware, which will persist through reinstalling the operating system. So installing Ubuntu 17.04 just once, will leave Bluetooth in a working state forever. I was able to consistently produce the issue on a *brand new* Kabylake Meerkat 3. With Ubuntu 16.04.2, bluetooth didn't work. I copied the ibt-12-16.sfi and ibt-12-16.ddc into /lib/firmware/intel and rebooted. Based on what I have learnt from ACPI, acpitool -w and lspci, I think the error is related to Namespaces provided in the DDST on \_SB_.PCI0.XHC_.RHUB.HS11, which I think concerns the Root → System bus tree → PCI bus → USB controller: Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-H USB 3.0 xHCI Controller (rev 31) in my system. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1652504] Re: Recent updates broke Ubuntu on Raspberry Pi 3
I don't know about the breakage, but I was just bitten by this bug after an upgrade, and #16 fixed the issue for me, too. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1652504 Title: Recent updates broke Ubuntu on Raspberry Pi 3 Status in flash-kernel package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Hello, I've been running Raspberry Pi 3 with Ubuntu as described here https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ARM/RaspberryPi I've installed Ubuntu 16.04 and then upgraded to 16.10 and have been using this setup successfully since October up until last week. Unfortunately one of the latest kernel updates broke the installation and I found out the same happened for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS - and therefore I can no longer run up-to-date Ubuntu installation (with updated kernel) on my RPI. I am getting this error: Error image is not a fdt - must reset the board to recover I also tried this but it didn't help me: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28=168838 Now I know running Ubuntu on RPI3 this way is not officially supported, but since Ubuntu Snappy is supported I thought someone here could know what is going on. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1626689] Re: During boot process, system goes to sleep
I only have 4.10.0-20 and 4.8.0-20. I tried them both. It’s the same. I also tried booting in upstart mode (since I was in the Grub prompt). The boot process works better, the system doesn’t go to sleep during boot. However, the GUI doesn’t load and I only have a console, which I can’t even use to shut the computer down ('failed to talk to init service'). But still, is this an indication my problem has to do with systemd? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1626689 Title: During boot process, system goes to sleep Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: After upgrading to 16.04, my computer goes to sleep during the boot process, shortly after I entered the passphrase to unlock my LVM. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1692143] Re: fs changes in kernel 4.12 break mount of ntfs-3g, possible data corruption
Okay, so the warning is clearly being generated by the WARN_ON function in fs/super.c. I realize I could disable the warning, but that sounds like a bad idea. One question though, why would we be verifying if sb->s_bdi is equal to the address of some "struct backing_dev_info noop_backing_dev_info" from either the files /include/linux/backing-dev.h or /mm/backing-dev.c (Found references to definition of this struct in these two file using the power of grep -rl) in fs/super.c on line 1281, when we reassign it anyway to a local variable bdi right after? In other words, IS there something going wrong here, or is this warning insignificant and should be removed? 1281: WARN_ON(sb->s_bdi != _backing_dev_info); 1282: sb->s_bdi = bdi; Also see bug report I filed about this problem at https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=195809 ** Bug watch added: Linux Kernel Bug Tracker #195809 https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=195809 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1692143 Title: fs changes in kernel 4.12 break mount of ntfs-3g, possible data corruption Status in fuse package in Ubuntu: New Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in ntfs-3g package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Mounting any ntfs partition or ntfs-formatted external drive in kernel 4.12 results in a critical kernel warning. Possible data corruption could happen, as the drive must be forcibly unmounted. The kernel warning appears in the syslog literally every single time, this is a very reproducible bug. The same warning/stack trace all pointing to the function super_setup_bdi_name in /linux/fs/super.c:1281 along with related calls to fuse functions appears in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, Ubuntu 16.10. and Ubuntu 17.04. Here I will only include the information relevant to my installation of 16.04.2 LTS. This seems rather critical, as ntfs is one of the only suitable formats supported by (and shareable between) Windows and Linux, and I worry that possible data corruption could be happening.
