Hello, after experimenting few days ago with Ubuntu 16.04.1, 16.10 and 17.04, among other problems I found that touchpad and Fn keys (all except volume control) doesn't work on my brand new ASUS G752VS. It is very hard even to try Ubuntu 16.10 and 17.04 because of the missing mouse pointer. This problem must be related to a video driver because if after installing one is capable to install Nvidia drivers - problem is solved. This problem doesn't exist both while trying and installing Ubuntu 16.04.1! [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1511383] Re: Complete Desktop freeze when watching video using VLC
Hi gnunified. I have had a freezing problem with games and anything that uses graphics as part of its main function with this particular hardware: Intel Corporation Broadwell-U Integrated I was doing some google searches and stumbled across a humble workaround that has stopped the freezing for me. Depending on your distro, you will have to specify the an option in your xorg.conf for the intel driver to workaround this issue. Change your device driver section to the following: Section "Device" Driver "intel" Option "AccelMethod" "sna" Section The default option I think/believe, which is seems to be causing the freezing issue is the following, depending on the distro: Option "AccelMethod" "uax" All I have done is changed this to "uxa" to "sna". I made this change and tested it, and it has successfully rectified my issue. Please try this and see if it works for you. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1720263] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at ffffffffffffffe1
Just a comment from a security module developer. What happens if you pass security=none to kernel command line options (i.e. disable AppArmor security module), for I think it might help isolating the problem because you are hitting oops at security_vm_enough_memory_mm() and security_file_free(). Also, can you afford try compiling the kernel with KASAN enabled (i.e. CONFIG_KASAN=y), for it might be some memory corruption error (including possibility of use-after-free bug) ? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1720263 Title: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at ffe1 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I'm constantly getting random kernel oopses and the machine hangs completely. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1720532] [NEW] WiFi connectivity drops randomly on Intel 8065
Public bug reported: My base system where the problem occurs is Ubuntu 17.04 with distro provided kernel 4.10 (-19, -33, -35), although the same was occuring on 16.04 LTS (that's actually why I've switched to 17.04). WiFi stops working randomly, usually after couple of minutes after system starts. There is no indication in the UI that anything is wrong (Network manager things all is good). Most of the time nothing can be seen in syslog or dmesg. Very rarely there are logs from NetworkManager indicating that it actually reconnects: Sep 30 13:06:49 alx wpa_supplicant[1627]: wlp4s0: CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED bssid=98:f5:37:38:07:d8 reason=4 locally_generated=1 Sep 30 13:06:49 alx NetworkManager[5802]: [1506769609.5900] sup-iface[0x55aa5fc98ac0,wlp4s0]: connection disconnected (reason -4) Sep 30 13:06:49 alx NetworkManager[5802]: [1506769609.6098] device (wlp4s0): supplicant interface state: completed -> disconnected Sep 30 13:06:49 alx gnome-shell[1590]: An active wireless connection, in infrastructure mode, involves no access point? The result of this tests is that firmware versions or 11n mode off didn't seem to influence anything. The only scenario when the problem didn't occur was running 4.12.13. On 4.13.2 problems where the same. The results are very consistent: really no need to wait for a problem to occur on faulty configurations, and days without any problem on 4.12.13 (here drops never actually occurring). I've always tested with the same hot spot, which doesn't cause any problems with multiple other devices. Can not trace issue to high resources or heat. System will crash while sitting essentially idle. Sometimes system will crash after a few minutes some times it will take days. A large file transfer will usually force the crash though. I have been having similar issue since Ubuntu 14.04. I have upgrade to every version along the way to 17.04 with the same issue. I have replaced every piece of hardware except HDD. MB, Proc, power supply, memory, video card. With and without AMD micro code. This is a server so no GUI. I've tried upstream kernels but they don't support ZFS and I haven't had any luck shimming it in. Happy to try newer kernels if someone can provide one with ZFS support. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1701499] Re: System often freezes or panics if I log in with Dell Dock WD15 connected
After a week of testing v4.14-rc2, the conclusions remain the same: - System doesn't freeze when booting up and logging in with the dock attached. - Ethernet doesn't connect automatically on boot / after login, manual intervention required. - System doesn't wake from suspend if the dock was disconnected during sleep. - System does wake properly from suspend if the dock was connected during sleep or dock connection did not change at all. - No sudden ethernet disconnects. I've got also a TB16 dock now: Problems with kernel 4.13.4: - Graphics crash when booting with dock attached, Ubuntu displayed a message asking what to do, but it recovered after selecting low res mode. Interestingly, I managed to log into desktop. - Everything else same as with WD15 dock. Kernel v4.14.rc2: same behavior as with v4.14.rc2 + WD15 dock. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1701499 Title: System often freezes or panics if I log in with Dell Dock WD15 connected Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I'm using Dell Precision 5520 with Ubuntu 17.04. If I first start a Unity session and then connect Dell WD15 USB-C dock with an external diplay plugged in, the system detects it properly and all the things work flawlessly (ethernet, external keyboard, external display, external storage connected to USB on the dock). I can plug-in and plug-out the dock multiple times and it just works. However if I boot the laptop with the dock already plugged in, first I get to the login screen and initially all is ok. Both screens are activated, and I can log in using the keyboard connected to the dock. When I hit "Enter", both screens go blank for a while, then they turn back on and I can see the desktop. A second or maybe two seconds later things start falling apart. When I move the mouse pointer a second after logging, it is kinda "jumpy", the movement is not smooth. The move freezes for a few times. I observed this behaviour only when moving the wireless mouse connected to the USB of the laptop. The builtin touchpad works smoothly. If it was the only issue, this would be a very minor annoyance. Sometimes, after a few short mouse pointer freezes the system starts working smoothly and all is rock stable from that point. However quite often I noticed much worse things happen: 1. The mouse pointer and everything freezes totally after a few seconds from displaying the desktop. It is not possible to switch to the console with Ctrl-Alt-F1. This happens in >50% of logins. 2. Kernel panic. I observed this behavior with stable Ubuntu kernel 4.10.0-20, as well as 4.11.0 - 4.11.8 (which I'm using now, because 4.11.x seems more stable than 4.10.0-x) and also 4.12.rc5 which I tried once. Even if everything goes fine, I noticed the following errors printed in syslog. I'm not sure if they are related, but they look very iffy to me: Jun 30 10:46:23 p5520 kernel: [ 38.391971] DMAR: DRHD: handling fault status reg 2 Jun 30 10:46:23 p5520 kernel: [ 38.391977] DMAR: [INTR-REMAP] Request device [3e:00.0] fault index 1e [fault reason 38] Blocked an interrupt request due to source-id verification failure Jun 30 10:46:23 p5520 kernel: [ 38.472490] xhci_hcd :0a:00.0: remove, state 1 Jun 30 10:46:23 p5520 kernel: [ 38.472496] usb usb4: USB disconnect, device number 1 Jun 30 10:46:23 p5520 kernel: [ 38.472497] usb 4-1: USB disconnect, device number 2 Jun 30 10:46:23 p5520 kernel: [ 38.472498] usb 4-1.2: USB disconnect, device number 3 Jun 30 10:46:23 p5520 NetworkManager[1129]: [1498812383.7510] device (eth0): state change: disconnected -> unmanaged (reason 'removed') [30 10 36] Jun 30 10:46:23 p5520 ModemManager[1076]: (net/eth0): released by modem /sys/devices/pci:00/:00:1d.6/:06:00.0/:07:02.0/:0a:00.0/usb4/4-1/4-1.2 Jun 30 10:46:23 p5520 NetworkManager[1129]: [1498812383.7537] devices removed (path: /sys/devices/pci:00/:00:1d.6/:06:00.0/:07:02.0/:0a:00.0/usb4/4-1/4-1.2/4-1.2:1.0/net/eth0, iface: eth0) Jun 30 10:46:23 p5520 kernel: [ 38.552718] xhci_hcd :0a:00.0: Host halt failed, -19 Jun 30 10:46:23 p5520 kernel: [ 38.552721] xhci_hcd :0a:00.0: Host not accessible, reset failed. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1720263] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at ffffffffffffffe1
Got an oops with 4.14 that hung firefox (like the ubuntu 4.13 kernel), had to hard-reset because the restart process couldn't kill my session. The 4.14-rc2 mainline kernel has some other bugs: network-manager can't get an ip via dhcp, I have to manually run sudo dhclient (sometimes multiple times) to get an ip, and my syslog is full of these apport errors (I have to kill cups-browsed to stop it): audit: type=1400 audit(1506762106.935:92): apparmor="DENIED" operation="create" profile="/usr/sbin/cups-browsed" pid=891 comm="cups- browsed" family="unix" sock_type="stream" protocol=0 requested_mask="create" denied_mask="create" The log for the oops: [ 963.083894] Oops: 0002 [#1] SMP [ 963.083896] Modules linked in: rfcomm cmac bnep arc4 snd_hda_codec_hdmi snd_usb_audio snd_usbmidi_lib nls_iso8859_1 intel_rapl x86_pkg_temp_thermal intel_powerclamp coretemp snd_hda_codec_realtek snd_seq_midi snd_hda_codec_generic snd_seq_midi_event kvm_intel kvm ath10k_pci snd_rawmidi ath10k_core irqbypass snd_hda_intel ath crct10dif_pclmul snd_hda_codec crc32_pclmul mac80211 snd_hda_core ghash_clmulni_intel wil6210 snd_seq pcbc btusb snd_hwdep btrtl snd_pcm btbcm aesni_intel snd_seq_device cfg80211 btintel snd_timer aes_x86_64 bluetooth crypto_simd snd glue_helper eeepc_wmi joydev cryptd mei_me asus_wmi intel_rapl_perf sparse_keymap wmi_bmof input_leds ecdh_generic soundcore ioatdma shpchp mei mac_hid parport_pc ppdev lp parport ip_tables x_tables autofs4 hid_logitech_hidpp hid_logitech_dj hid_generic [ 963.083931] usbhid hid nouveau mxm_wmi video ttm drm_kms_helper syscopyarea sysfillrect sysimgblt fb_sys_fops drm igb e1000e nvme dca nvme_core ptp pps_core i2c_algo_bit ahci libahci wmi [ 963.083943] CPU: 13 PID: 17792 Comm: firefox Not tainted 4.14.0-041400rc2-generic #201709242031 [ 963.083945] Hardware name: System manufacturer System Product Name/PRIME X299-DELUXE, BIOS 0702 08/08/2017 [ 963.083948] task: 9b6f568a8000 task.stack: b453ce1c4000 [ 963.083951] RIP: 0010:security_vm_enough_memory_mm+0x38/0x60 [ 963.083953] RSP: 0018:b453ce1c7d98 EFLAGS: 00010283 [ 963.083957] RAX: 0800 RBX: be58c0e8 RCX: 0870 [ 963.083959] RDX: 9b6f12b66e10 RSI: 0800 RDI: 9b6f4aae7000 [ 963.083961] RBP: b453ce1c7db0 R08: bda04580 R09: 9b6f546fe440 [ 963.083966] R10: 9b6f9ffd4000 R11: R12: 9b6f4aae7000 [ 963.083968] R13: 0800 R14: 0800 R15: [ 963.083971] FS: 7f5113a26740() GS:9b6f5eb4() knlGS: [ 963.083974] CS: 0010 DS: ES: CR0: 80050033 [ 963.083975] CR2: 07e0 CR3: 00100b965001 CR4: 003606e0 [ 963.083978] DR0: DR1: DR2: [ 963.083980] DR3: DR6: fffe0ff0 DR7: 0400 [ 963.083982] Call Trace: [ 963.083986] copy_process.part.34+0xbad/0x1aa0 [ 963.083989] _do_fork+0xcf/0x3a0 [ 963.083992] ? get_unused_fd_flags+0x30/0x40 [ 963.083994] SyS_clone+0x19/0x20 [ 963.083997] do_syscall_64+0x61/0x120 [ 963.084001] entry_SYSCALL64_slow_path+0x25/0x25 [ 963.084003] RIP: 0033:0x7f510489f250 [ 963.084005] RSP: 002b:7ffcdffa5250 EFLAGS: 0202 ORIG_RAX: 0038 [ 963.084007] RAX: ffda RBX: 7f5112719000 RCX: 7f510489f250 [ 963.084009] RDX: RSI: 7f511271ce80 RDI: 00800600 [ 963.084012] RBP: 7ffcdffa5330 R08: R09: [ 963.084014] R10: R11: 0202 R12: 7f51125a08a0 [ 963.084016] R13: 7f51048a8410 R14: 7ffcdffa5290 R15: 7f51068705e0 [ 963.084018] Code: 53 48 8b 1d eb 93 9d 00 49 89 fc 49 89 f5 48 81 fb f0 c1 58 be 75 0e eb 1d 48 8b 1b 48 81 fb f0 c1 58 be 74 11 4c 89 ee 4c 89 e7 53 18 85 c0 7f e7 31 d2 eb 05 ba 01 00 00 00 4c 89 ee 4c 89 [ 963.084035] RIP: security_vm_enough_memory_mm+0x38/0x60 RSP: b453ce1c7d98 [ 963.084036] CR2: 07e0 [ 963.084613] ---[ end trace de026f54edcaf242 ]--- -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1720263 Title: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at ffe1 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I'm constantly getting random kernel oopses and the machine hangs completely. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1720263] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at ffffffffffffffe1
(My previous comment was too long, so I moved the logs to the end.) The 4.13.0 mainline kernel is unusable, it panicked once immediately after boot, the second time it hung on the boot splash, the third time when I tried to open this page in firefox. There was also an oops before the third hang, and that's the only thing present in kern.log [1] The ubuntu kernel (4.13.0-12) seems more stable now than the one on the beta2 live usb, I still get some oopses in the log, and one managed to hang firefox completely (not even killall -9 firefox would kill it, and I had to hard reset, because it oopsed again during reboot), but no complete hangs yet. E.g.: [2] No hangs yet with 4.14-rc2 mainline, but I did get an oops in kern.log: [3] I'll try stress-testing 4.14. 1: Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432383] Oops: 0002 [#1] SMP Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432385] Modules linked in: cmac bnep arc4 snd_hda_codec_hdmi(+) snd_usb_audio nls_iso8859_1 snd_usbmidi_lib intel_rapl snd_hda_codec_realtek snd_hda_codec_generic x86_pkg_ temp_thermal intel_powerclamp ath10k_pci snd_hda_intel ath10k_core snd_hda_codec coretemp ath kvm_intel kvm mac80211 irqbypass snd_seq_midi snd_hda_core wil6210 snd_hwdep snd_pcm snd_seq_midi_event crct10dif_pcl mul crc32_pclmul ghash_clmulni_intel pcbc snd_rawmidi cfg80211 snd_seq aesni_intel snd_seq_device btusb aes_x86_64 snd_timer crypto_simd btrtl glue_helper btbcm snd cryptd eeepc_wmi btintel asus_wmi joydev intel _rapl_perf sparse_keymap wmi_bmof input_leds soundcore bluetooth ecdh_generic mei_me shpchp mei ioatdma mac_hid parport_pc ppdev lp parport ip_tables x_tables autofs4 hid_logitech_hidpp hid_logitech_dj hid_gener ic Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432419] usbhid hid nouveau video mxm_wmi ttm drm_kms_helper syscopyarea sysfillrect sysimgblt fb_sys_fops drm igb e1000e nvme dca nvme_core ptp pps_core ahci i2c_algo_bit libahci wmi Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432430] CPU: 0 PID: 1010 Comm: gnome-screensav Not tainted 4.13.0-041300-generic #201709031731 Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432433] Hardware name: System manufacturer System Product Name/PRIME X299-DELUXE, BIOS 0702 08/08/2017 Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432435] task: 8bc4cabc1e00 task.stack: a71649358000 Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432438] RIP: 0010:security_file_mprotect+0x40/0x60 Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432440] RSP: 0018:a7164935bec0 EFLAGS: 00010202 Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432442] RAX: ff7efff8 RBX: a8f91408 RCX: 0001 Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432444] RDX: 0001 RSI: 0001 RDI: 8bc4cd995140 Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432446] RBP: a7164935bee0 R08: 08100071 R09: 000a Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432448] R10: R11: 8bc4cabc1e00 R12: 0001 Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432452] R13: 0001 R14: 8bc4cd995140 R15: 8bc4cd995140 Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432454] FS: 7fd0f4672600() GS:8bc4de80() knlGS: Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432457] CS: 0010 DS: ES: CR0: 80050033 Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432458] CR2: ffd9 CR3: 00105214 CR4: 003406f0 Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432461] DR0: DR1: DR2: Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432463] DR3: DR6: fffe0ff0 DR7: 0400 Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432464] Call Trace: Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432469] do_mprotect_pkey+0x1ec/0x2f0 Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432472] SyS_mprotect+0x13/0x20 Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432475] entry_SYSCALL_64_fastpath+0x1e/0xa9 Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432477] RIP: 0033:0x7fd0f44a2427 Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432479] RSP: 002b:7ffcc0496f38 EFLAGS: 0206 ORIG_RAX: 000a Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432481] RAX: ffda RBX: 7fd0ead78a00 RCX: 7fd0f44a2427 Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432484] RDX: 0001 RSI: 1000 RDI: 7fd0eb1a7000 Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432485] RBP: 7ffcc0497060 R08: R09: 000a Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432487] R10: R11: 0206 R12: Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432490] R13: 0001 R14: 7fd0f4680100 R15: 7fd0ead75000 Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [7.432492] Code: 9f 00 48 81 fb 60 d6 f8 a8 74 30 49 89 fe 49 89 f5 49 89 d4 eb 0c 48 8b 1b 48 81 fb 60 d6 f8 a8 74 19 4c 89 e2 4c 89 ee 4c 89 f7 53 18 85 c0 74 e4 5b 41 5c 41 5d 41 5e 5d c3 5b 31 c0 41 5c Sep 30 10:24:47 Hyperion kernel: [

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1720197] Re: Every second(?) boot fails to display anything [MSHYBRID mode]
Debian bug [1] is resolved by introducing a patch that has "set gfxpayload=keep" when kernel uses config "CONFIG_FB_EFI=y". A new feature is introduce by patch [2], to enable gfxpayload=keep dynamically. The blacklist is in package "grub-gfxpayload-lists". The package is depends on "grub-pc", which conflicts grub-efi-*. So on EFI systems, there's no blacklist mechanism to use. It's 2017, yet we can still see this bug on new systems. I guess go back to the old behavior "gfxpayload=text" will be really desirable. Issue does not exist with a wired headset. This issue does not exist with 15.10. All updates have been installed on 16.04 including backports but they have not fixed the issue. It is not browser specific and not website specific. It is not hardware specific as it affects my laptop with an intel 7260 card and my pc with an intel 8260 card.
