[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1784485] Re: [ZenBook S UX391UA, Realtek ALC294, Mic, Internal] No sound at all

2018-12-29 Thread Ben
The UX391UA fix is not in 4.20 as it was already a release candidate.
To get sound working on this model you'll need to download the 4.20
source, apply the patch to sound/pci/hda/patch_realtek.c then compile
and install the kernel.

However, system still does not restore from step 10 (echo none >

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1685794] Re: Boot delayed for about 90 seconds until 'random: crng init done'

2018-12-29 Thread Andrew
Ive had this problem numerous times, and my solution works in all
situations.

When running dsmeg, the error shows up as:

[CODE]
[6.382044] random: crng init done
[6.382048] random: 7 urandom warning(s) missed due to ratelimiting
[ 32.162934] EXT4-fs (sda6): mounted filesystem with ordered data mode. Opts:
(null)[/CODE]

The solution is to:

First compare your fstab and blkid:

[CODE]$ blkid
/dev/sda1: UUID="C0C0-7641" TYPE="vfat" PARTLABEL="EFI system partition"
PARTUUID="1085d848-f8b9-45e2-a6be-087acb32a820"
/dev/sda3: LABEL="Windows" UUID="8662302C623022FB" TYPE="ntfs" PARTLABEL="Basic
data partition" PARTUUID="de399a3e-c832-4dca-a09d-f65789425b89"
/dev/sda4: LABEL="Windows RE tools" UUID="2262513962511341" TYPE="ntfs"
PARTLABEL="Basic data partition" PARTUUID="18feb4e1-5770-4e13-92b8-bb8ba8005536"
/dev/sda5: UUID="81a474ab-98bf-4d40-b03e-e5e647163d7e" TYPE="ext4"
PARTLABEL="Arco Linux" PARTUUID="3759200f-6317-4487-8b10-3a0140c67bd5"
/dev/sda6: LABEL="rootMX17" UUID="7bae9e4d-61fa-4187-b11f-517c799f7c94"
TYPE="ext4" PARTLABEL="MX Linux" PARTUUID="417c8cbd-11b7-4fe6-9b15-ac9082d74460"
/dev/sda7: UUID="d9539219-1c29-468f-bbd0-106663fdef59" TYPE="swap"
PARTLABEL="Swap" PARTUUID="fefe3061-bf7b-4a26-8c20-08e209acc28e"

$ sudo nano /etc/fstab

# /etc/fstab: static file system information
#
# Created by make-fstab on Mon Nov 19 17:10:30 EST 2018

#
 <$

#-> /dev/sda6  label=rootMX17
UUID=7bae9e4d-61fa-4187-b11f-517c799f7c94  /
   ext4 d$
#-> /dev/sda1
UUID=C0C0-7641 /boot/efi
   vfat d$
#-> /dev/sda7
UUID=42e5a9cd-b6e1-4d57-9a3a-2ad910862579  swap
   swap d$[/CODE]

As you can see my swap at /dev/sda7 has a different UUID in fstab than it does
in blkid. This was, in my case, caused by another linux install repartitoning
the swap
and causing the UUID to change. The boot delay is caused by the system trying
to find the new UUID of the swap. To fix it, just copy the UUID in blkid that
doesnt match to the fstab file then save.

If after restart the boot error is still there, you need to
additionally edit your initramfs.conf file.

Do this by:

$ sudo nano  /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume

Then either by making a new file, or editing the current resume file, write on
the first line
RESUME=UUID=<< UUID of swap>>

For example, mine looks like

RESUME=UUID=d9539219-1c29-468f-bbd0-106663fdef59

Then run the below command to update your initramfs file.

sudo update-initramfs -u

Then restart. The error will be gone

  [Impact]
ThinkPad 11e 2nd/3rd touchpad not working when load i2c-i801.
PNP LEN0049 will use smbus by default in kernel, but i2c bus is in
runtime suspend mode in old touchpad fw.
  Then touchpad will not work.
LEN2040 on 11e 3rd can reproduce this issue by passing
  psmouse.synaptics_intertouch=1

These 2 pnp device should be the same one Synaptics s3203_ver5.

  [Fix]
i2c-i801 should auto suspend when not used, no need runtime pm.

  [Test Case]
  Tested on Thinkpad 11e 3rd.
  Touchpad works fine.

  [Regression Potential]
  Low, upstream fix cherry-picked.

4.18 kernel patch, no need for cosmic.

  Original bug report:
  =
After upgrading to kmod (24-1ubuntu3.1) the trackpads stop working on Lenovo
11e 2nd gen machines.

We have a fleet of approximetly 1000 of them in production running
ubuntu 18.04. Prior to this update the trackpads worked out of box in
  18.04.

We are currently working around the issue by deploying our own
  blacklist files.

USB Storage based Realtek card reader doesn't work, because the usb-storage
module tries to use it in UAS mode instead of using "ums-realtek".

  [Fix]
Add new IDs to ums-realtek driver.
In addition to that, we add a new module knob, "enable_mmc=", to
enable/disable MMC, as vendors may not pay MMC royalties. "enable_mmc" defaults
to 1.

  [Test]
After applying the patch, the card reader works, and verified "enable_mmc="
can enable/disable MMC support.

  [Regression Potential]
Minimal. This SRU enables two specific card readers that don't work as UAS,
the new module knob only introduces new behavior when enable_mmc=0.

I can confirm that the solution Florian posted (modifying
/lib/udev/rules.d/97-hid2hci.rules) works for me as well.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1776616] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 getting stuck at "Starting Reboot" and "Starting Power-Off"

2018-12-29 Thread expos
Hi, I updated my Maxdata Belinea o.book 2.1 with AMD Processor (AMD Turion(tm)
64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-60) from Kubuntu 14.04 to Mint Xfce 19 (reinstall).
Same issue here. Then I tried Mint 18.3 which is built upon Ubuntu 16.04, again
the same issue. I installed upstream kernel 4.20.0-042000-generic - problem
persists.
When I read the previous comments, it's always an aging AMD processor
involved...

Here's probably a workaround described (again with AMD Turion TL-60 processor):
https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/suggestions-and-feedback/possible-kernel-problems-with-ubuntu-18-04-and-latest-kernel/msg41538/#msg41538

Unfortunately I cannot test it as I don't see the option to disable AMD
Power Now in my BIOS.

Ubuntu 18.04 getting stuck at "Starting Reboot" and "Starting Power-

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in linux source package in Bionic:

Bug description:
  Hardware: HPE ProLiant DL360 gen9
  Ubuntu Version: 18.04

Problem: When rebooting the server, everything goes well (shutting
down services, unmounting etc) until the last step where it reads
"Starting Reboot". At this point the system is getting stuck and
nothing else can can be done than holding the power button in for a
long enough time to turn it off. At the same time as the system get
stuck, a red error light is lightening up on the server. This light is
green until it reaches this "Starting Reboot" stage. The same happens
if the server is shutdown, with the difference that the last message
is "Starting Power-Off" instead of "Starting Reboot".

The server is installed with a new clean 18.04 installation. This
server was rebooting/shutting down without a problem with all releases
  between 16.04 and 17.10.

This problem is serious as it prevents remote reboot.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 132002] Re: libportaudio packaging very confusing

2018-12-29 Thread Hachmann
Looks like this is still unresolved. I have OBS Studio installed, and
apt suggests removing it (and a lot of other stuff) for being able to
install pyaudio/portaudio19-dev.

Title:
  libportaudio packaging very confusing

Status in portaudio19 package in Ubuntu:
  Opinion

Bug description:
Installing portaudio 19 is very confusing. I am trying to compile an
application which uses it, as well as the CPP bindings which are
  contained in libportaudiocpp0.

  1) Previously, PortAudio 18 dev files were installed using the package
libportaudio-dev. So far so good.
  2) So libportaudio0 goes with libportaudio-dev and libportaudio-doc, for V18.
  3) To install V19 and the cpp bindings, first I tried installing
libportaudiocpp0.
  4) Apparently libportaudiocpp0 is not intended for libportaudio0, but for
portaudio19-dev.
  5) portaudio19-dev is the development files for libportaudio2. 2? Why
couldn't this be 19?
  6) The dev files for libportaudiocpp0 are contained in portaudio19-dev. I
spent some time looking for a package called libportaudiocpp0-dev, but was very
confused for a while.

So anyways, it finally become apparent that all I had to do was install
portaudio19-dev and libportaudiocpp0.
I just wanted to state my general confusion here at the package naming
scheme...
At the very least, why not put the cpp binding dev files in
libportaudiocpp0-dev? And if I install libportaudiocpp0, it should detect the
dependancy on libportaudio2, instead of allowing me to compile programs with an
incompatible version of the library.
It is very non-obvious which package to install for V18 or V19. I had to
issue several "apt-cache show" commands before figuring it out.
Lastly, V18 for some reason is mutually exclusive with V19. This is a bad
thing, because some older applications may require V18. There is a perfectly
good way to deal with this problem, by using version numbers in the file names.
(For example, I currently have both libglib-1.2 and libglib-2.0 installed at
the same time.)

2018-12-29 Thread David G
Hi, I just experienced this today, the only thing that was not usual was
that I left my Bluetooth Headphones which were previously used on and
the notebook fell asleep. Maybe this is a coincidence, but it happened
to me in this exact combination and only once since ever.

Resume fails when suspending laptop with headphones plugged in

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This is Xubuntu 18.04.1, kernel 4.15.0-43-generic on a Dell Latitude

I've found that if I have headphones plugged in when I suspend the

appears that a full boot occurs: Dell logo appears, followed by the
Grub menu, and after selecting the boot option and booting, I get a
new login session instead of my suspended one.

I tried some combinations of booting, suspending and resuming with the
headphones attached or detached. The 'yes'/'no' indicates whether the
headphones were plugged in when I performed the operation. 'ok'
indicates that the resume succeeded: after authenticating to
xscreensaver, my previous session was resumed.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1810055] [NEW] Resume fails when suspending laptop with headphones plugged in

2018-12-29 Thread Steve Chadsey
Public bug reported:

This is Xubuntu 18.04.1, kernel 4.15.0-43-generic on a Dell Latitude
5580.

I've found that if I have headphones plugged in when I suspend the
system (either by closing the laptop lid, or by using Whisker menu >
Power button > Suspend), then the system does not resume properly. It
appears that a full boot occurs: Dell logo appears, followed by the Grub
menu, and after selecting the boot option and booting, I get a new login
session instead of my suspended one.

Boot: no Suspend: no Resume: noResult: ok
Boot: no Suspend: no Resume: yes Result: ok
Boot: no Suspend: yesResume: noResult: fail
Boot: no Suspend: yesResume: yes Result: fail

Boot: yes Suspend: noResume: noResult: ok
Boot: yes Suspend: noResume: yes Result: ok
Boot: yes Suspend: yes Resume: noResult: fail
Boot: yes Suspend: yes Resume: yes Result: fail

(Note: for each case, the suspend was done via Whisker menu > Power

The common factor for failure is suspending when the headphones are
plugged in.

Title:
  i2c_hid_get_input floods system logs

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 4.15.0-29.31-generic 4.15.18

After upgrading to kernel version 4.15.0-29 from 4.15.0-23, the system
logs are flooded whenever I move the cursor with my touchpad.

  It looks like this:
  i2c_hid i2c-ELAN1010:00: i2c_hid_get_input: incomplete report (14/65535)
  i2c_hid i2c-ELAN1010:00: i2c_hid_get_input: incomplete report (14/65535)
  i2c_hid i2c-ELAN1010:00: i2c_hid_get_input: incomplete report (14/65535)
  i2c_hid i2c-ELAN1010:00: i2c_hid_get_input: incomplete report (14/65535)
  etc...

This problem did not occur on the previous kernel version so there
must have been a change to the "drivers/hid/i2c-hid/i2c-hid.c" file.
This seems to be fixed in a recent commit here:

https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/ef6eaf27274c0351f7059163918f3795da13199c

I am currently running the older kernel version but would still like
to be up to date without this flooding happening.

Title:
  Lenovo X1C6 trackpad functions broken

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Summary:
After kernel update the trackpad advanced functions, like two finger
scrolling and mouse acceleration have stopped working.

  Expected Result:
Two finer scroll works and the mouse has acceleration features work

  Actual Result:
Two finer scroll works and the mouse has acceleration features do not work

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Lenovo X1C6 (LENOVO 20KHCTO1WW/20KHCTO1WW, BIOS N23ET59W (1.34 )
11/08/2018)
  2. Install 18.04 LTS
  3. config-4.15.0-42-generic acceleration works, while
config-4.15.0-43-generic does not

This appears to be some sort of regression or change in behavior between
kernel versions.

Title:
  Lenovo X1C6 trackpad functions broken

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Summary:
After kernel update the trackpad advanced functions, like two finger
scrolling and mouse acceleration have stopped working.

  Expected Result:
Two finer scroll works and the mouse has acceleration features work

  Actual Result:
Two finer scroll works and the mouse has acceleration features do not work

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Lenovo X1C6 (LENOVO 20KHCTO1WW/20KHCTO1WW, BIOS N23ET59W (1.34 )
11/08/2018)
  2. Install 18.04 LTS
  3. config-4.15.0-42-generic acceleration works, while
config-4.15.0-43-generic does not

This appears to be some sort of regression or change in behavior between
kernel versions.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1808418] Re: Thinkpad T430u won't boot without noapic workaround

2018-12-29 Thread bmaupin
I tried to boot with an older kernel (4.15.0-43), and it wouldn't boot
without noapic. But v4.20-rc7 seems to boot fine. I guess it must've
been a fluke that it didn't boot for me the first time.

Should I still try to figure out which RC kernel the problem started?

Title:
Thinkpad T430u won't boot without noapic workaround

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I've used Ubuntu on this specific machine for years without problems,
but starting with the 4.13 kernel that came with the 17.10 HWE and
continuing into 18.04 kernels my computer would no longer boot,
  hanging at various screens:

  - A blank screen with a flashing cursor
  - A screen with this message:
  Loading Linux 4.13.0.36-generic ...
  Loading initial ramdisk ...
  - A screen with kernel messages, ending in:
  APCI: EC: interrupt blocked

I've encountered the bug in a number of kernels, including:
  - 4.13.0-32
  - 4.13.0-36
  - 4.13.0-37
  - 4.15.0-24
  - 4.15.0-34
  - 4.15.0-36
  - 4.15.0-38
  - 4.15.0-42
  - 4.20.0-rc7

I was able to work around the issue by adding noapic to
  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT in /etc/default grub, e.g.:

  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash noapic"

I'm not entirely sure of the consequences of this workaround, but one
thing I've noticed is significantly reduced battery life.

This bug seems very similar to what's described here for the Thinkpad
  E485/E585: https://evilazrael.de/node/401

I'll attach screenshots of various times I've encountered this bug
  over the last year.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1784485] Re: [ZenBook S UX391UA, Realtek ALC294, Mic, Internal] No sound at all

2018-12-29 Thread sojusnik
@VanVan

That's strange!

To be on the safe side, I even did a fresh Ubuntu 18.10 installation and
updated to the 4.20 kernel with UKUU, but I still don't have sound.
Neither from the internal, nor the external speakers. I've played around
with alsamixer in the terminal – without success.

Can somebody confirm that they got the sound running just by installing
the latest kernel (4.20) on the ASUS UX391UA (that's the model this
issues is actually about)?

Title:
  Lenovo X1C6 trackpad functions broken

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Summary:
After kernel update the trackpad advanced functions, like two finger
scrolling and mouse acceleration have stopped working.

  Expected Result:
Two finer scroll works and the mouse has acceleration features work

  Actual Result:
Two finer scroll works and the mouse has acceleration features do not work

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Lenovo X1C6 (LENOVO 20KHCTO1WW/20KHCTO1WW, BIOS N23ET59W (1.34 )
11/08/2018)
  2. Install 18.04 LTS
  3. config-4.15.0-42-generic acceleration works, while
config-4.15.0-43-generic does not

This appears to be some sort of regression or change in behavior between
kernel versions.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1594023] Re: Poweroff or reboot hangs. Laptop won't shutdown. 16.04

2018-12-29 Thread Vishal Dindalkop
I had similar issues when i installed Ubuntu i tried to boot ubuntu but it got
hang because of ACPI error
i made acpi off so it can boot in but when i tried to shut down it got hand
this time

Reason is simple
Its related to your graphic card

step 1:
i went through these proceess
->booted into system with acpi off from grub command
since i was not able to without doing so

step 2:
later when i got into ubuntu
i did
(this step neccessary or not i'm not sure, included it since i had followed it)
i think its very necessary
->sudo apt-get update
->sudo apt-get upgrade

step 3:

Install graphic card Driver

https://www.tecmint.com/things-you-mostly-need-to-do-after-installing-
ubuntu-16-04/4/

after doing this once you might hang but on restart you wont need acpi off
you can run ubntu without any hang during start splash screen or shutdown
splash screen

Title:
Poweroff or reboot hangs. Laptop won't shutdown. 16.04

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This is about a fresh Ubuntu 16.04 install on a new laptop (asus
x540sa). After pressing the shutdown button in the start menu; the
shutdown procedure starts and in the final splash screen the system
just hangs. Tried a second time by pressing Esc once the splash screen
showed up and I saw that it reaches the line "Reached target shutdown"
and just stops there, no matter how long I leave it there the machine
  won't turn off.

I also tried a Kubuntu 16.04 fresh install on the same machine and it
hanged too at the final splash screen where the pulsating logo
stopped. Then I tried with Esc only to see the exact same line in the
  end.

The issue seems to affect lately quite many users as shown by the
google results of the past month / week or so.

I have also tried shutting down from the console with shutdown -and
all the parameters after that suggested online- and sudo poweroff but
unfortunately they didn't do the trick. The exact same situation
  occurred.

Unmounting the swap as suggested online doesn't work.

Also rebooting the system is not working either due to the same issue.

So right now the only way for me to poweroff the machine is to press
the power button on the keyboard continuously.

  Reproducible: Always

  Steps to Reproduce:
  1.Install OS
  2.Do something, anything or nothing
  3.Try to shutdown or reboot

  Actual Results:
The computer is not shutting down: "Reached target shutdown" and hangs there.

  Expected Results:
  Powering off the machine.

For what it's worth, closing the lid won't suspend the system, but
using the menu buttons for suspension will do it.
