This is a brand new notebook on the market with Ryzen 5/Radeon.
The default kernel of Ubuntu(18.04) hangs at loading with message:

Using pci=noacpi kernel parameter kernel loads without any problem but
my notebook produces more heat than on Win10. If I know right Acer
notebooks need ACPI to the correct power management.

The same thing happens on mainline 4.17,4.18rc1-2.
BIOS upgrade to the latest version: 1.08 hasn't helped

This problem has been reported upstream:
  https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=200087

The latest correctly working kernel was 4.13.* but the heat problem
  was present with this too.

Bug description:
  Notebook: HP ProBook 470 G5 (3KZ03EA)
  Distro: Linux Mint 19.1 Tessa
  Desktop: Cinnamon 4.0.8
  Kernel: 4.15.0-43-generic x86_64 bits: 64

The functions of all hotkeys are given, but the LED's in the [f5]
  Speaker-mute, [f8] Micro-mute and [f11] Wireless on/off Buttons do not
show the status. Disturbing is also the LED in [f11] permanently lit.

This is my first bug report to launchpad and I ask for leniency and
  troubleshooting support.

I created 12 logs, unfortunately the upload did not work at once:

  acpi_listen.txt
  apt-cache-policy
  dmesg.log
  lsb_release
  lsinput.log
  lspci-vnvn.log
  rfkill_list.txt
  udev-db.txt
  version.log
  xev keypress test.txt
  xkbcomp.txt
  xkbmap.txt

  Previous attempts:
My on-board search for other HP ProBook Hotkey LED-issues led me to this bug
report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1705586

but the solution to the file: /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
to supplement the entry: options snd-hda-intel mode = mute-led-gpio

did not lead to the solution here. Presumably, the failure results
  from a different ubuntu-version and/or a another kernel.

Information: This problem was previously discussed on

this issue happens all the time on my machine now, then I tried mainline kernel.
It can not be reproduced on latest mainline kernel 5.2.8-050208-generic and
5.3.0-050300rc4-generic

btw, on the case of #3, pm_test failed at platform level but passed on
devices level.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1784485] Re: [ZenBook S UX391UA, Realtek ALC294, Mic, Internal] No sound at all

2019-08-17 Thread VanVan
The bug is back for me with kernel :
Linux version 5.0.0-25-generic (buildd@lgw01-amd64-008) (gcc version 8.3.0
(Ubuntu 8.3.0-6ubuntu1)) #26-Ubuntu SMP Thu Aug 1 12:04:58 UTC 2019

Sounds working for few seconds, and go down, no sound after 5 seconds.
Works again for 5 seconds after some minutes without sounds

This bug was resolved for a while, nothing was done except updating the system,
so probably related to kernel update.
Someone else has the same issue with latest update of Ubuntu 19.04 ?

Yes.

TCC adjustment is required for some platform, so either we wait for
kernel patch merged or live with lock down errors with MSR accesses.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1832144] Re: Ubuntu 19.04 suspend freeze on Dell inspiron 7373

Title:
Ubuntu 19.04 suspend freeze on Dell inspiron 7373

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I have installed Ubuntu 19.04 in my Dell Inspiron 7373 and I am
getting issues with suspend. When I lock the case or write the
"systemctl suspend" command, the screen turn off, the system freeze
and the laptop keeps turned on. I need to force the laptop turn off
and on again. There are some cases when it suspends without issues,
but most of the time it freezes.

There are some workarounds for issues like this one but they are
mostly for laptops using nvidia graphics.

I am not sure how to provide debug information about this issue, but I
can give it if someone tells me how to do it.

  "lsb_release -rd" output:
  Description:Ubuntu 19.04
  Release:19.04

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1692342] Re: lspci -vnvn returns "pcilib: sysfs_read_vpd: read failed: Input/output error"

2019-08-17 Thread simonsudler
Just found the same input/output error on 18.04 with Linux version
5.0.0-25-generic:

$ lspci -vv -s 08:00.0
08:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168/8411
PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 0c)
...
pcilib: sysfs_read_vpd: read failed: Input/output error
...

It seams it happens, when the /sys/bus/pci/devices/:08:00.0/vpd is
accessed:

$ strace -o /tmp/strace.log lspci -vv -s 08:00.0 > /dev/null
pcilib: sysfs_read_vpd: read failed: Input/output error

$ cat /tmp/strace.log | grep -B 2 -C 2 "Input/output error"
pread64(3, "\3\0\0\0", 4, 208) = 4
openat(AT_FDCWD, "/sys/bus/pci/devices/:08:00.0/vpd", O_RDONLY) = 5
pread64(5, 0x7fff8ed80e2e, 1, 0)= -1 EIO (Input/output error)
write(2, "pcilib: ", 8) = 8
write(2, "sysfs_read_vpd: read failed: Inp"..., 47) = 47

It can be reproduced by reading the device directly:

$ cat /sys/bus/pci/devices/:08:00.0/vpd
cat: '/sys/bus/pci/devices/:08:00.0/vpd': Input/output error

It seams that this is a kernel issue, because the vpd is created, even
if the device (in my case the RTL8111/8168/8411) does not support vpd.

There is also a kernel bug report:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=199467

getting issues with suspend. When I lock the case or write the
"systemctl suspend" command, the screen turn off, the system freeze

and on again.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1833793] Re: Updating to 19.04 audio keeps clicking when nothing is playing audio

2019-08-17 Thread Tais P. Hansen
I have this problem on 18.04.3 after upgrading to the 5.0.0 hwe kernel
(5.0.0-25-generic). Reproducible by letting the device go into power
save and then waking it up by running pavucontrol.

Title:
Updating to 19.04 audio keeps clicking when nothing is playing audio

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  My Ubuntu version: Ubuntu 19.04
My sound card: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller
(rev 02)

  What I expect to happen:
Sound is absolutely quiet when no audio is playing

  What happens now:
Audio output starts clicking every second incredibly annoyingly and loud.

What previously happened on Ubuntu 18.10:
I heard the click twice during boot and then it worked properly (without
clicking during the time it should have been silent)
