[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1856077] Re: Fix latency issue on Realtek Bluetooth

2019-12-21 Thread Stephen George Dunmore
As I have previously reported via ubuntu-bug, but without the addition of
regression-update, this 'fix' for kernel drivers had stopped my BT in its
tracks. Restored a previous disk image free of updated kernel drivers.
I have now found how to avoid this install with a reliable check box in Gnome
Package Updater, v 3.28.0-2.
Using Ubuntu 18.04 on a Toshiba P770
Yet to be tried on a Toshiba L755.

Title:
Fix latency issue on Realtek Bluetooth

Status in linux-firmware package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in linux-firmware source package in Bionic:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [Impact]
When multiple Bluetooth devices are connected to Realtek Bluetooth
controller, the BT latency becomes really high, e.g. audio stutters, mouse lags.

  [Fix]
The new Realtek Bluetooth firmware can fix the issue.

  [Test]
Cold boot the system to reload the new firmware, and the issue is gone.

  [Regression Potential]
Low. The firmware is already in Eoan. We also tested it on Bionic and haven't
found any regression so far.

2019-12-21 Thread Erik Davidson
I also wanted to mention that in my case after the issue is triggered I
can unplug the cable from the ethernet jack on the eGPU I have, then
plug it back in and it'll work again for a little bit until I trigger it
again.

Tests in our scenario with this patch proved still broken. Our next
approach is to modify the patch a bit and re-test.

This LP will be used to document our progress in the investigation.

2019-12-21 Thread Erik Davidson
Guilherme, I've attached a dmesg that ends as soon as my ethernet in the
egpu disconnects. It's just a matter of running something like
"fast.com" a couple times to trigger it.

I'd also be willing to try a debug kernel or whatever else I can do to
help get this fixed!

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1728651] Re: System hangs after iwlwifi firmware crash

2019-12-21 Thread Daniel
Okay, so, I remembered disabling CStates in BIOS as well as the other
Intel speed throttling settings. After re-enabling them, I've been
streaming data for quite a while, and haven't had the iwlwifi driver
crash.

So, "workaround" I guess??

Title:
System hangs after iwlwifi firmware crash

Status in linux-firmware package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Since upgrading to Kubuntu 17.10 my HP EliteBook 820 G3 hangs at
unpredictable times. I have experienced probably 20 hangs. Once the
system is hung no mouse movement, NumLock toggle, VT switch,
Ctrl+Alt+Del, SysRq keys, SSH attempts have any effect whatsoever. Any
audio playing is stuck looping in the hardware buffer. The system is
really stuck. Only the keyboard backlight is still responsive.

The only correlation I have noticed is that the system only hangs if
WiFi is enabled. This morning I experienced two hangs in ten minutes
necessitating reboots. Having disabled WiFi the system has been stable
  since ~1100 (~5 hours).

Often, I see a iwlwifi hardware reset in the logs before the system
  dies:

  /var/log/syslog:Oct 30 11:49:30 fry kernel: [ 6529.550751] iwlwifi
:02:00.0: Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x8200.

(apport has hopefully uploaded the full log, please lmk if not).
Sometimes the message doesn't make it into the logs, and ext4
truncates the file at the next mount.

There seems to be no correlation with any messages immediately before
the wifi chip dies. It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm at home or
at work. I have wired ethernet at work simultaneously with wifi, but
the wifi provides IPv6 so I would imagine most traffic uses wifi, so
it's hard to say whether there's any effect of the traffic load on the
  probability of failure.

Here is a sample of the firmware load:

  [Impact]
Synaptics s3203 touchpad not working after update to kernel
  4.15.0-72-generic

  [Fix]
After applied commit "Input: synaptics-rmi4 - avoid processing unknown
  IRQs",
  no irq response from touchpad.
This commit is depended on commit:
"Input: synaptics-rmi4 - convert irq distribution to irq_domain"

  [Test]
Verified on hardware, tests results are good.

  [Regression Potential]
  Low.
Fix bug that introduced by stable release update.

2nd and 3rd patches are fixes for the 1st patch.
These commits are already included by eoan kernel, so bionic 4.15 only.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1850904] Re: ubuntu_seccomp failed with X/B/D s390x / PPC

2019-12-21 Thread Leo Le Bouter
I am building software in CI on ppc64el and I am met with a variant of
this issue.

https://gitlab.com/chromium-ppc64le/ungoogled-chromium/-/jobs/384098505

What I am building requires the system calls: __NR_shmat __NR_shmctl __NR_shmdt
__NR_shmget
and it seems they are not present in , for some reason.

Here's the recipe: https://gitlab.com/chromium-ppc64le/ungoogled-
chromium-ci-docker-
image/blob/5db632353a7d8d57b583fc907aaf2985c1bc192a/Dockerfile

I tried on both bionic and disco, same issue.
