[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1956845] Re: amdgpu: [gfxhub0] retry page fault
Oh actually maybe avoid Ubuntu 21.10 for the moment because of regression bug 1956401. You might want to try Ubuntu 22.04 (preview) though. It is fully functional already. http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1956845 Title: amdgpu: [gfxhub0] retry page fault Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: this is additional information related to [Bug 1955049] about amdgpu kernel errors. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1950355] Re: Intense screen flickering, vertical rainbow bars, display problems on Ubuntu 20.04, Lenovo X1 Carbon
[Expired for linux-hwe-5.11 (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: linux-hwe-5.11 (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux-hwe-5.11 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1950355 Title: Intense screen flickering, vertical rainbow bars, display problems on Ubuntu 20.04, Lenovo X1 Carbon Status in linux-hwe-5.11 package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: (Initial post on ask ubuntu, copy pasted: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1359955/intense-screen-flickering- vertical-rainbow-bars-display-problems-on-ubuntu-20) Starting today (Aug 24) I observed intense screen flickering and tearing on my Ubuntu 20.04.3 on the Lenovo X1 Carbon. As far as I know, there were no shutdowns, updates, or changes. I observed this behavior once the machine started up from sleep. Throughout the day I have restarted (and powered down) the machine several times, but the problem persists. Here is a video example: https://photos.app.goo.gl/516nAe7AUUYnAHzd7 Here is an image: https://i.stack.imgur.com/RgLvB.jpg This video was taken from a clean Ubuntu install USB, so I don't think it has to do with anything I've installed or updated in the past. The system does not have any other operating systems on it (its not dual booted). I'm using basic integrated graphics (Mesa Intel® UHD Graphics 620 (WHL GT2)). System has 16gb of RAM and a Intel® Core™ i7-8665U CPU @ 1.90GHz × 8 processor, so I don't think the issue is available processing power (although the integrated graphics could be bad). I'm already using Wayland. I tried everything in the following links: Ubuntu screen flickering https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubuntu/comments/g78o4e/screen_tearing_in_ubuntu_2004/ The flickering is most noticeable in Chrome/Firefox (regardless of enabling/disabling hardware acceleration or setting any chrome://flags). However, I've also observed it with just editing Vim in terminal. EDIT: A month later, still experiencing this issue. This problem really seems to come and go -- it will go days without issue, and then have days again where it is constant. I've noticed it on all browsers. I've noticed that closing the webbrowser seems to resolve the issue most of the time. I've noticed that this is not an issue on any extended screens, just the main screen. --- Since the above post, I tried booting into a clean live disk running Ubuntu 20.04.2. This actually worked fine, and I did not observe any strange graphical effects. As per the reply on ask ubuntu, I decided to file this bug. --- Ubuntu release Description: Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS Release: 20.04 xorg package version: xorg: Installed: 1:7.7+19ubuntu14 Candidate: 1:7.7+19ubuntu14 Version table: *** 1:7.7+19ubuntu14 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+19ubuntu14 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.11.0-38.42~20.04.1-generic 5.11.22 Uname: Linux 5.11.0-38-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.21 Architecture: amd64 BootLog: Error: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/var/log/boot.log' CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CompositorRunning: None CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Tue Nov 9 13:16:35 2021 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: focal DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: virtualbox, 6.1.26, 5.11.0-37-generic, x86_64: installed virtualbox, 6.1.26, 5.11.0-38-generic, x86_64: installed ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, if not too technical GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation UHD Graphics 620 (Whiskey Lake) [8086:3ea0] (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Lenovo UHD Graphics 620 (Whiskey Lake) [17aa:2292] InstallationDate: Installed on 2021-03-15 (239 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 20.04.2.0 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Release amd64 (20210209.1) MachineType: LENOVO 20QDS3B800 ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm-256color PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-5.11.0-38-generic root=UUID=9213d3af-1e40-4621-9964-1212d1070372 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: xorg Symptom: display UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 08/24/2020 dmi.bios.release: 1.38 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: N2HET55W (1.38 ) dmi.board.asset.tag: Not Available dmi.board.name: 20QDS3B800 dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: SDK0J40709 WIN dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: None dmi.ec.firmware.release: 1.20 dmi.modalias:
[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1956519] Re: kernel panic after upgrading to kernel 5.13.0-23
Hi Vadik, Oliver, Thanks for reporting, and sorry that 5.13.0-24-generic in -proposed didn't solve the issue. Let's do some analysis: [1.381250] BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference, address: 000c [1.381270] RIP: 0010:amd_sfh_hid_client_init+0x47/0x350 [amd_sfh] [1.381299] Call Trace: [1.381302] ? __pci_set_master+0x5f/0xe0 [1.381310] amd_mp2_pci_probe+0xad/0x160 [amd_sfh] [1.381314] local_pci_probe+0x48/0x80 ... Okay, so a null pointer dereference in the amd_sfh module. The c in 000c probably means offset +12 in the struct we are trying to access. Let's see where this is: $ eu-addr2line -ifae ./usr/lib/debug/lib/modules/5.13.0-23-generic/kernel/drivers/hid/amd-sfh-hid/amd_sfh.ko amd_sfh_hid_client_init+0x47 0x0767 amd_sfh_hid_client_init /build/linux-k2e9CH/linux-5.13.0/drivers/hid/amd-sfh-hid/amd_sfh_client.c:147:27 Let's have a look: 134 int amd_sfh_hid_client_init(struct amd_mp2_dev *privdata) 135 { ... 146 147 cl_data->num_hid_devices = amd_mp2_get_sensor_num(privdata, _data->sensor_idx[0]); 148 ... Okay, so we are dereferencing either cl_data->num_hid_devices or _data->sensor_idx[0], but they are both in cl_data, so cl_data will be NULL. Since you mentioned that it worked in 5.13.0-22-generic, and broke in 5.13.0-23-generic, lets see if this changed in 5.13.0-23-generic: $ git log --grep "amd_sfh" Ubuntu-5.13.0-22.22..Ubuntu-5.13.0-23.23 commit d46ef750ed58cbeeba2d9a55c99231c30a172764 commit-impish 56559d7910e704470ad72da58469b5588e8cbf85 Author: Evgeny Novikov Date: Tue Jun 1 19:38:01 2021 +0300 Subject:HID: amd_sfh: Fix potential NULL pointer dereference Link: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/d46ef750ed58cbeeba2d9a55c99231c30a172764 Okay, so this patch changes the parent function to amd_sfh_hid_client_init(), which is amd_mp2_pci_probe(). + rc = amd_sfh_hid_client_init(privdata); + if (rc) + return rc; + privdata->cl_data = devm_kzalloc(>dev, sizeof(struct amdtp_cl_data), GFP_KERNEL); if (!privdata->cl_data) return -ENOMEM; ... - return amd_sfh_hid_client_init(privdata); + return 0; So it seems we are moving the call to amd_sfh_hid_client_init(privdata) from the end of the function up a bit, and interestingly, before the call to privdata->cl_data = devm_kzalloc(). So... we are using privdata->cl_data before it is being allocated? Looks like we have found our NULL pointer dereference. I suppose the commit to "fix" the null pointer dereference actually introduced another one. Looking at this commit in the upstream tree, I came across: commit 88a04049c08cd62e698bc1b1af2d09574b9e0aee Author: Basavaraj Natikar Date: Thu Sep 23 17:59:27 2021 +0530 Subject: HID: amd_sfh: Fix potential NULL pointer dereference Link: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/88a04049c08cd62e698bc1b1af2d09574b9e0aee This patch seems to move the call to after cl_data is allocated, which should fix this. - rc = amd_sfh_hid_client_init(privdata); - if (rc) - return rc; - privdata->cl_data = devm_kzalloc(>dev, sizeof(struct amdtp_cl_data), GFP_KERNEL); if (!privdata->cl_data) return -ENOMEM; - rc = devm_add_action_or_reset(>dev, amd_mp2_pci_remove, privdata); + mp2_select_ops(privdata); + + rc = amd_sfh_hid_client_init(privdata); This commit landed in 5.15-rc4: $ git describe --contains 88a04049c08cd62e698bc1b1af2d09574b9e0aee v5.15-rc4~40^2 It seems it was backported to 5.14.10: https://lwn.net/Articles/872195/ Impish should have gotten 5.14.10 during its regular upstream -stable patches: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1950388 The commit is listed there, but when I search the Impish git tree, it is missing? I think what has happened is the two commits have the same name, and Kamal must have gotten confused and thought it was a duplicate, and dropped it. Here's what we are going to do. I will build you a test kernel based on 5.13.0-23-generic, that includes Basavaraj Natikar's fix, and I will provide instructions on how to install it. You can test it to make sure it fixes the issue, and if it does, I will submit the patch for SRU to the 5.13 kernel. I will write back once the test kernel has finished building, probably tomorrow. I get a similar hang if I start firefox (when it's probing OpenGL contexts), and even with glxgears and glxinfo. Seems like anything that'd kick on a OpenGL context does it. I had a freeze as well when I tried running firefox and glxgears both. Along with odd BUG: messages logged (I have some in the attached log.) I was running with "iommu=pt", but did try with this removed, still got the errors (I think amdgpu driver uses the IOMMU even when it's set to IOMMU=pt though.). See the attached log for some very odd "[Hardware Error]" messages that were logged on one test run. I think this was when I tried to run firestorm (second life viewer) -- that had a large pause then opened to a black window. Per Google, I see there was a bug like this that turned up in kernel 5.14.15 but fixed in 5.14.17. See https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/1770 Thanks! --Henry Fix: upstream commit afd18180c070 ("drm/amdkfd: fix boot failure when iommu is disabled in Picasso.") [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1956473] [NEW] kernel 5.13.0-23 seems to cause graphics driver issues
You have been subscribed to a public bug: After updating to kernel 5.13.0-23 I started having issues. Startup and logging are extremely slow. When I try to run firefox a dialog box shows up saying it is not respondig and asking to wait or forcequit. If a wait it eventually opens (after over a minute) and seems to work correctly. Similar issues occur when trying to run mpv. In some cases the computer might even hang completely. I am running Ubuntu Budgie 21.10 (budgie-desktop 10.5.3). I also have Xmonad installed. Xmonad starts much quicker but has the same issues when running applications. The problems seem to be solved by booting with kernel 5.13.0-22 or kernel 5.13.0-23 with nomodeset. I am using an HP computer with an AMD Ryzen 3 cpu with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx. --- ProblemType: Bug ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu71 Architecture: amd64 BootLog: Error: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/var/log/boot.log' CasperMD5CheckResult: pass CompositorRunning: None CurrentDesktop: Budgie:GNOME DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: impish DistroRelease: Ubuntu 21.10 DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: rtl8821ce, 5.5.2.1, 5.13.0-22-generic, x86_64: installed rtl8821ce, 5.5.2.1, 5.13.0-23-generic, x86_64: installed ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, if not too technical GraphicsCard: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. The trackpoint cursor often suddenly jumps to an edge/corner, because the hardware/firmware sometimes reports wrong coordinates / loses sync. Currently, the Trackpoint is barely usable and it's impossible to productively work using it. For a long while, Elantech has not yet put forward (nor confirmed) a firmware update. However, there is a Linux kernel patch mitigating the firmware bug. The kernel bugfix discards the wrongly reported packages by the Elantech hardware. This solves the problem for the user. *Solution:* Please apply existing kernel patch here. https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=209167 Bug entry in the Linux Kernel.org Bugzilla https://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=295733=diff Diff of bugfix *T14s and X13 are Ubuntu certified:* The Lenovo Thinkpad T14s and X13 are Ubuntu certified, but apparently this hardware issue has slipped the Ubuntu certification process! https://ubuntu.com/certified/202006-27978 and https://ubuntu.com/certified/202006-27979 *Further information:* https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Fedora/T14s-AMD-Trackpoint-almost-unusable/m-p/5064952?page=1 Discussion on the bug in the Lenovo forum. SRU justification: == [Impact] The trackpoint cursor often suddenly jumps to an edge/corner, because the hardware/firmware sometimes reports wrong coordinates / loses sync. [Fix] Ignore the buggy data reported by Elan TP firmware, make the TP usable. [Test] Tested on ThinkPad AMD X13 and users confirm on other platforms. [Where problems could occur] It's limited to specific Elan device, it may break the Elan Trackpoint. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1956849] Re: Almost all USB ports suddenly stopped working; unbootable
Hi @dgatwood, @Jazz. I took a look at the USB patches that landed between 5.11.0-41-generic and 5.11.0-44-generic in the Focal HWE tree: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/mfJCw5XmBv/ One commit which I thought was interesting was: commit 5caa90d5fedfcdf57a42c272896cfd0ef6b5c667 commit-upstream: 5255660b208aebfdb71d574f3952cf48392f4306 Author: Jonathan Bell Date: Fri Oct 8 12:25:44 2021 +0300 Subject: xhci: add quirk for host controllers that don't update endpoint DCS Link: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/5255660b208aebfdb71d574f3952cf48392f4306 I took a look at the Amazon B08PF8XR73 card you have: https://www.amazon.com/YEELIYA-PCI-7-Port-USB-C-USB/dp/B08PF8XR73 The page mentions "Advanced Dual Chip Uses Fresco Logic 1100 +VL820 dual chips". The above commit is a quirk for VIA VL8xx chipsets, and looking at the code: if (pdev->vendor == PCI_VENDOR_ID_VIA && pdev->device == 0x3483) { xhci->quirks |= XHCI_LPM_SUPPORT; xhci->quirks |= XHCI_EP_CTX_BROKEN_DCS; } It was applied to PCI_VENDOR_ID_VIA && pdev->device == 0x3483. Looking these up: https://devicehunt.com/view/type/pci/vendor/1106/device/3483 We see that the VL820 is listed: VX800/820-Series PCI-Express Root Port 1 So this new piece of code would apply to your PCIe card. There was a similar bug filed a few days ago: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1956542 Looking at the lsusb output, they are also using a VIA Labs VL813 Hub, and USB 3 no longer works. Bus 003 Device 056: ID 2109:2813 VIA Labs, Inc. VL813 Hub In this case though, the VL813 is under a different vendor and device ID, and the code in that commit would not apply: https://devicehunt.com/view/type/usb/vendor/2109/device/2813 Since its 0x2813 and not 0x3483. Still, this is very interesting. @Jazz, does your system have any "VIA Labs, Inc" USB host devices? Check "lsusb -v". Note that the commit was also present in 5.13.0-23-generic on Impish, but is not in 5.13.0-22-generic. @dgatwood, could you please collect "lsusb -v" as well, and maybe try 5.11.0-41-generic? Thanks, Matthew -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1956849 Title: Almost all USB ports suddenly stopped working; unbootable Status in linux package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: This package needs to be pulled NOW. It disables almost all USB-3.0 and USB-C ports completely. Even though I had automatic software updates turned OFF (or so I thought), my Mac Pro suddenly got a new kernel when I rebooted it this morning: Linux macpro-obs 5.11.0-44-generic #48~20.04.2-Ubuntu SMP Tue Dec 14 15:36:44 UTC 2021 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux and it contains a P0 showstopper bug. Upon rebooting, I got dropped into the initrd prompt because Linux could not see the external USB drive that I'm booting from (WDBAGF5000AGY-WESN). I wasted an entire day figuring out what was wrong, and even went so far as to order a replacement SSD, planning to rebuild everything from scratch, because the drive failed to appear in every single USB port I tried. Then I discovered that a different SSD didn't work, either. At that point, I realized that something else was wrong, and I kept trying until I found one other port that worked. I was then able to boot and get dmesg and lsusb output. This kernel update broke not only the built-in ports, but also the ports on a generic USB-C PCIe card (Amazon B08PF8XR73). Mac Pro built-in USB-3.0(A) ports (2x): working Mac Pro built-in USB-C ports (4x): dead USB-C PCIe card USB-C ports (2x): dead USB-C PCIe card USB-3.0(A) ports (5x): dead All devices fail to appear in lsusb when attached to the port, including an Apple USB keyboard, an Anker USB-C Ethernet adapter, a WD SSD, and a Sandisk SSD. I'm going to roll back my kernel to a working kernel, but this package needs to be pulled NOW before it affects too many people. This is too catastrophic a bug to wait even a day. It appears you've reported roughly the same issue in 7 different bugs now. Maybe consider swapping graphics card? Also, * Mainline kernels are not officially supported, they are only provided for testing. * Ubuntu 21.04 is soon about to reach end-of-life (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases). So please try installing Ubuntu 21.10 instead (https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop) and don't change the kernel. Then tell us if the same bug still occurs. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1956845 Title: amdgpu: [gfxhub0] retry page fault Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: this is additional information related to [Bug 1955049] about amdgpu kernel errors. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1956849] Re: Almost all USB ports suddenly stopped working; unbootable
@dgatwood would you be able to upload kernel logs and lsusb output from the -44 kernel? From what you're describing it seems like a possible issue with host controllers, but it's hard to tell without looking at what is going in the kernel. You can use `apport-collect 1956849` to upload relevant data directly to this LP bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1956849 Title: Almost all USB ports suddenly stopped working; unbootable Status in linux package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: This package needs to be pulled NOW. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1936295] Re: Faulty Elantech Trackpoint firmware unusable as it causes sudden cursor jump to an edge/corner on Lenovo Thinkpad X13, T14s, A475 --> Apply kernel patch to mitigate
I installed the new proposed kernel and tested the trackpoint for some hours. I confirm that the new kernel fixes the bug on Lenovo Thinkpad T14s Gen1 (AMD). Can someone verify and change the tag 'verification-needed-impish' to 'verification-done-impish'? I don't see where I could change tags in Launchpad. Thank you very much! [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1878946] Re: Cannot install proprietary NVIDIA driver
I am just having the same problem with U20.04. Just installed fresh today Jan 9, 2022. My computer is freezing only when I open Libreoffice Calc with fullscreen 2560x1440 (lower res works fine), so I wanted to try a new install with nothing in it, just as-is from the download. In this new install my kernel is 5.11-0-44 generic. My other install of 20.04 the kernel is 5.4 (I tried to do an update to 5.11 since I read that it fixes a really nasty bug but it would not upgrade.) I would not downgrade kernel 5.11 since this is happening to me with the kernel that came with the original U20.04, my freeze may be a different issue. In today's install when I go to SW & Updates -- Additional Drivers and click on the Using Nvidia driver, after a few minutes I get a window with Error while applying changes and "pk-client-error-quark: Error while installing package: installed nvidia-340 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 10 (313)" -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-440 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1878946 Title: Cannot install proprietary NVIDIA driver Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers-440 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: 1) Distro: Kubuntu 20.04 2) Package version: nvidia-driver-440 version "440.82+really.440.64-0ubuntu6" I have started the driver management from system settings, selected "Using NVIDIA driver metapackage from nvidia-driver-440 (proprietary, tested). 3) What I expected to happen: The proprietary driver should be installed. Since USB ports blockage seems to happen when entering Linux environment, a possible workaround to try in systems with intagrated bluetooth would be entering BIOS setup and disabling bluotooth, or pressing bluetooth disabling key where available. ** Information type changed from Public to Public Security -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1924298 Title: accept returns duplicate endpoints under load Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: When accepting client connections under load, duplicate endpoints may be returned. These endpoints will have different (usually sequential) file descriptors but will refer to the same connection (same server IP, same server port, same client IP, same client port). Both copies of the endpoint appear to be functional. Reproduction requires: - compilation of the attached server.c program - wrk (https://github.com/wg/wrk) to generate load The steps to reproduce are: - run 'server' application in one console window - run 'for i in {1..50}; do /opt/wrk/wrk -t 2 -c 1000 -d 5s --latency --timeout 1s http://localhost:/post; done' in a second console window - run the same command in a third window to generate concurrent load You may need to run additional instance of the wrk command in multiple windows to trigger the issue. When the problem occurs the server executable will exit and print some debugging info. e.g.: accerror = 1950892, counter = 10683, port = 59892, clientfd = 233, lastClient = 232 This indicates that the sockets with file descriptors 233 and 232 are duplicates. The issue has been reproduced on fully patched versions of Ubuntu 20.04 and 18.04. Other versions have not been tested. This issue was originally observed in Java and was reported against the Spring Framework: https://github.com/spring-projects/spring-framework/issues/26434 Investigation from the Spring team and the Apache Tomcat team identified that it appeared to be a JDK issue: https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8263243 Further research from the JDK team determined that the issue was at the OS level. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1956518] Re: linux-firmware 1.187.24 may crash USB ports
This seems to be affecting me too. Around the time the firmware package was updated (plus other kernel-related packages), I started having serious problems with USB during boot. I cannot really be sure it isn't a hardware problem, but I am able to use MacOS okay (this is an iMac). I boot off of an external SSD. To get boot to work I have to unplug my external HDD and my USB hub, and then plug them back in after the kernel has successfully mounted the SSD. Otherwise I get USB timeouts and get dumped into an emergency prompt. Additionally, sometimes the USB mouse stops working. This has occasionally happened in the past and I've just have to reseat it in the USB hub. Now I have to remove power to the USB hub and unplug the USB hub from the machine, and then plug it all back. i.e. a hard-reset of the whole USB hub. This is with one USB hub, but I also tried another. Something is seriously broken with USB. Public bug reported: This bug has been introduced with the upgrade of linux- image-5.13.0-22-generic to linux-image-5.13.0-23-generic. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1956855] Re: [SRU] alsa-ucm-conf: Add Realtek 4050 USB Codec profile for a Dell machine
** Description changed: - This bug is for tracking purpose. + [Impact] + This Dell machine has dual Realtek 4050 USB Codecs as front and rear codec, the front codec has speaker and headset, the rear codec has line-out audio jack. Without UCM, the pulseaudio can't detect this two usb audio codec and the audio can't work at all. + + [Fix] + Backport a upstream patch, the patch adds the front and rear profiles in the ucm, then pulseaudio will enable all audio devices in this machine. + + [Test] + booting with patched ucm, open the gnome-sound-setting, we could see usb speaker, usb headset and usb lineout, play sound to speaker, headset and lineout, all worked well, record sound via headset, it could record the sound correctly. + + [Where problems could occur] + This SRU adds the new ucm files to a folder, in theory it will not introduce regressions, but It adds a file USB-Audio.conf, it could make other ucm conf files in the USB-Audio folder fail to parse, and make the P620 and WD15/19's audio fail to work, but this possibility is very low, we already tested it and no regression found so far. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to alsa-ucm-conf in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1956855 Title: [SRU] alsa-ucm-conf: Add Realtek 4050 USB Codec profile for a Dell machine Status in HWE Next: New Status in alsa-ucm-conf package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in alsa-ucm-conf source package in Focal: In Progress Status in alsa-ucm-conf source package in Impish: In Progress Status in alsa-ucm-conf source package in Jammy: In Progress Bug description: [Impact] This Dell machine has dual Realtek 4050 USB Codecs as front and rear codec, the front codec has speaker and headset, the rear codec has line-out audio jack. This is the debdiff for Jammy and Impish. (Jammy and Impish share the same alsa-ucm-conf so far, I prepared a alsa-ucm-conf for jammy based on the latest debian version, it is in https://launchpad.net/~hui.wang/+archive/ubuntu/new-jammy, if it could be merged, I will prepare a new SRU for jammy then). ** Patch added: "alsa-ucm-conf_1.2.4-2ubuntu6.debdiff" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-ucm-conf/+bug/1956855/+attachment/5552800/+files/alsa-ucm-conf_1.2.4-2ubuntu6.debdiff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to alsa-ucm-conf in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1956855 Title: [SRU] alsa-ucm-conf: Add Realtek 4050 USB Codec profile for a Dell machine Status in HWE Next: New Status in alsa-ucm-conf package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in alsa-ucm-conf source package in Focal: In Progress Status in alsa-ucm-conf source package in Impish: In Progress Status in alsa-ucm-conf source package in Jammy: In Progress Bug description: This bug is for tracking purpose.
