Bug description:
When an external display is connected to my laptop, running Ubuntu
22.04, the display is detected and I am sent to the login screen.
After logging in again, the display is not running, although the
primary laptop display works fine. The external monitor is looking for
connection in that moment, which it never founds.

The bug is tested on two Samsung monitors: S24R350FHUXEN and
  S22F350FHU.

Title:
KVM IPI Virtualization support for SPR

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
IPI virtualization targets to make the processor emulate the write to APIC
registers that would send IPIs in virtualized system.
VMX provide new VM-execution control and VMCS field to support IPI
virtualization which can eliminate APIC-Write VM-exit.
The processor sets the bit corresponding to the vector in target vCPU's PIR
and may send a notification (IPI) specified by NDST
and NV fields in target vCPU's PID. It is similar to what IOMMU engine does
when dealing with posted interrupt from devices.

IPI Virtualization is approved in SPR/EGS CCB and  it is supposed to
be enabled in C-step or later (perhaps D-step).

The mic mute/audio mute LEDS are not work on HP EliteBook 630 G9 Notebook PC

  [Fix]
It needs the specific quirk for the hardware layout.
Thus, add the quirks to make it works.

  [Test]
After applying the quirk, the audio/mic mute LEDs are working good.

  [Where problems could occur]
If HP ships the different system boards design with the same subsystem ID of
audio codec which is using different GPIO pins (different layout), then the
quirk will not work (LEDs will not work when muting audio-output or microphone).

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1977699] [NEW] zfs icp has deselected all optimized aes & gcm impls

2022-06-05 Thread Kent Ross
Public bug reported:

In an upgrade from Jammy kernel 5.15.0-27-generic to 5.15.0-35-generic
on x86_64 (AMD threadripper pro 39x5wx series), a 40x performance
regression in the first read of cached writes to an encrypted dataset
revealed that zfs is no longer configured to choose any implementations
from advanced instruction sets:

$ grep . /sys/module/icp/parameters/*impl*
/sys/module/icp/parameters/icp_aes_impl:cycle [fastest] generic x86_64
/sys/module/icp/parameters/icp_gcm_impl:cycle [fastest] generic

With correct configuration, the output should read as follows:

$ grep . /sys/module/icp/parameters/*impl*
/sys/module/icp/parameters/icp_aes_impl:cycle [fastest] generic x86_64 aesni
/sys/module/icp/parameters/icp_gcm_impl:cycle [fastest] avx generic pclmulqdq

The immediate ill effects are the use of gcm_generic_mul instead of the
dedicated instruction, consuming 50% CPU and slowing reads of data
cached in ram to less than 20% of what they would be even reading
directly from disk.

openzfs changed its configure process to detect cpu features differently
recently to adapt to the kernel api change. It seems that the upstream
changes that unexport the needed symbols and the downstream changes in
openzfs that stop using them were not cherrypicked in sync.

https://github.com/openzfs/zfs/pull/13236

During hotplug built-in hdmi, the error message show up.
  #REG_WAIT timeout for yellow Carp

  [Fix]
This tends to take miliseconds in certain scenarios and we'd rather not
wait that long. Due to how this interacts with det size update and
locking waiting should not be necessary as compbuf updates before
  unlock.

Add a watch for config error instead as that is something we actually do
  care about.

  [Test Case]
  1. Plug and unplug hdmi
  2. cant get the error message in dmesg.

  [Where problems could occur]
  Low

Title:
Ubuntu 22.04 unable to mount root partition

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After updating from Kubuntu 21.10 to Kubuntu 22.04, boot drops to a
(initramfs) prompt/busybox. When I type "exit" I get the "Gave up
waiting for root file system device" error message and "ALERT!
UUID=[nvme drive UUID] does not exist. Dropping to a shell!"

I can still boot into KDE when selecting the older kernel version
5.13.0-40-lowlatency. I have tried the newer kernel versions
  5.15.025-generic, 5.15.0.24-lowlatency, 5.17.4-051421-generic and
5.14.21-051421-lowlatency and all have produced the same problem.

When removing the the "pci=nocrs" kernel paramater in Grub for these
newer versions, the system boots into KDE but the touchpad does not
work. Kernel version 5.13.0-40-lowlatency boots into KDE without
removing the "pci=nocrs" parameter and everything works as expected,
  including the touchpad.

My hardware is a Lenovo ideapad lenovo ideapad 3 15IIL05, Processors: 8 ×
Intel® Core™ i5-1035G4 CPU @ 1.10GHz, Memory: 7,3 GiB of RAM, Graphics
Processor: Mesa Intel® Iris® Plus Graphics. I have upgraded the hard drive that
came with the machine to a Kingston SA2000M8500G 465,8GiB nvme drive.

Tried with the latest Ubuntu 22.04 and Fedora 36 and same situation,
HDMI is not recognised for sound, but getting pictures is fine -> so nothing
wrong with the HDMI cable to the monitor.
Thankfully I've just connected a set of external speakers using the 3.5mm jack
and just accepted sound across hdmi will not work with kernel later than 4.15.

2022-06-05 Thread Bob Lawrence
Maybe we can figure out what's common between our systems since I
imagine if everyone were getting this error then this bug would be
getting more attention.

I'll also note this started for me with 5.15. 5.13 and earlier did not
exhibit this error. System seems to run fine though. No noticeable
degradation in performance or functionality.

Output of my inxi:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1968519] Re: [Lenovo Ubuntu 22.04 Bug]The Physical VGA displayer shows no signal (black screen) when install Ubuntu 22.04

2022-06-05 Thread Vivien GUEANT
Hello,

I confirm that the incident is resolved.

I updated Ubuntu 22.04 server remotely via SSH (on a Dell PowerEdge R210
II server with a Matrox MGA G200eW WPCM450 internal card) and the local
console (by plugging a monitor into the server's VGA port) works fine.

$ uname -a
Linux serveur 5.15.0-35-generic #36-Ubuntu SMP Sat May 21 02:24:07 UTC 2022
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Thanks,
Vivien

Title:
[Lenovo Ubuntu 22.04 Bug]The Physical VGA displayer shows no signal
(black screen) when install Ubuntu 22.04

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Description:
When we install Ubuntu 22.04, the physical VGA displayer show black screen.
It can only show rarely boot logs just for few seconds after kebyboard Enter
key be pressed to install Ubuntu OS, and then the physical VGA displayer keeps
black screen, but the XCC remote KVM monitor can show the boot log and the GUI
interface.

  Produce Steps:
1. Connect a physical VGA displayer.
2. Fresh install Ubuntu22.04 on a server that integrated Matrox MGA
G200-family.
3. When the install menu comes out, press keyboard Enter key, the
physical VGA displayer just get the signal for few seconds and then the monitor
go to black screen.

  Configuration:
  Systems:Lenovo SR590, SR650, SR630 with magag200 as GFX
  OS:jammy-live-server20220405-amd64.iso
  CPU:Intel(R) Xeon(R) Bronze 3104 CPU @ 1.70GHz
  UEFI:3.30 (Build ID: IVE178D)
  XCC:1.30 (Build ID: PDL114N)
  HDD:1.00TB 7.2K 6Gbps SATA 3.5" HD

  Actual results:
The VGA display keep the black screen, during Ubuntu 22.04 installation.

  Expected results:
The VGA display is OK when install the Ubuntu 22.04 in a server that
integrated Matrox MGA G200-family video processor

  Additional info:
1. The issue can be reproduced 100% in the server that integrated
Matrox MGA G200-family platforms.
2. Both UEFI mode and legacy mode are failed.
3. After we finish installing Ubuntu OS through XCC remote KVM monitor,
and reboot the system, the physical VGA displayer still show nothing after a
few seconds.
4. We did more tests, modified the cmdline of the kernel, add
"nomodeset", the VGA displayer display well.
5. This issue could be found on both Intel and AMD platforms , which
have onboard video chip as mgag200, also called pilot 4.
6. Upstream kernel patch
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?h=v5.18-rc1=147696720eca12ae48d020726208b9a61cdd80bc
(drm/mgag200: Select clock in PLL update functions) probalby resovle the issue
on BIOS legacy mode.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1970957] Re: suspend problem

2022-06-05 Thread Witold Świerzy
Lenovo T460S affected. Tested 5.18 kernel as well - id has NOT fixed the issue.
Also tested Fedora 36. Seems, that Fedora is NOT affected by this bug, as
suspension works correctly on the same laptop.

Title:
  suspend problem

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I've installed Ubuntu 22.04 on the ThinkPad E480. Suspend functions ok
intermittently. Some times it works fine, other times the computer
does not enter the suspend mode (the screen gets blank, but the
machine is still running and the ThinPad led is on, and there is no
way out... no response from keyboard or mouse... the only solution is
to switch off manually hitting and holding the power button), other
times the machine does not wakes up from suspension mode.
