Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
We have an IBM BladeCentre Hx5 with a number of blades running Ubuntu
18.04.3. Storage is attached over Fiber Channel.

They all boot fine with 4.15.0-72 - the qla2xxx detects all the LUNs.
On 4.15.0-74 and 4.15.0-76, the qla2xxx driver loads but the LUNs are
not detected. This breaks the boot. rescan-scsi-bus.sh is also unable
to find the LUNs. Reverting to the 4.15.0-72 kernel works.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
System only can reach PC3, and it affects power consumption alot.

  [Fix]
Kaiheng implemented a dynamic ASPM for r8169, it not only fixes the PC state
issue, but also fixes network speed issue.
  V7:

https://patchwork.kernel.org/project/netdevbpf/patch/20211016075442.650311-5-kai.heng.f...@canonical.com/
  V6:

https://patchwork.ozlabs.org/project/linux-pci/cover/20211007161552.272771-1-kai.heng.f...@canonical.com/

  [Test]
Verified on 2 different systems which has PC state issue and has network
speed issue, these patches fix both issues.

  [Where problems could occur]
It toggles ASPM on and off depends on the network traffic during runtime, I
don't think it'll lead to any regressions. Some potential issues have been
addressed during the patch submitting. It's v6 now and accepted by upstream.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1996474] Re: Subiquity installer crashes after the custom partitioning is created

2022-11-13 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
By reading the LVM source I found that unpartitioned CDL formatted DASDs
cannot be included in a LVM volume group. So I guess we should update
the interface to prohibit their use! I would expect that if you add a
single partition to dasdb and put that in the VG instead things will
work.

Bug description:

  preinstalled/20221018.1/kinetic-preinstalled-desktop-
  arm64+raspi.img.xz

  I verified that the sha256sum matches. After unxz'ing it, I made a
  bootable sd card with:

  dd if=kinetic-preinstalled-desktop-arm64+raspi.img of=/dev/sda

When I boot, I see the BIOS boot screen, then the color palette
screen, then just blackness. I've tried with two different known
working monitors and two different known working cables.

I also tried installing Raspbery Pi OS the same way to the same 32Gb
sd card and it booted just fine.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1992194] Re: random CSR_RESET errors in iwlwifi appear under kinetic

2022-11-13 Thread Jack Howarth
It appears that this is fixable with a BIOS update on the Gigabyte X570
UD v1.1 motherboard. Upgrading from the F32 stable BIOS release to the
F34 stable BIOS release captures the following change from the F33g beta
BIOS release...

3. Fix USB 2.0 devices stability and compatibility

which makes sense as the Gigabyte GC-WBAX210 WIFI 6E Aorus PCI card is
connected to a motherboard USB 2.0 connector. Since updating to F34, the
boot issues with iwlwifi have disappeared. It would still be nice for
upstream to make the iwlwifi drivers as robust to BIOS defects as the
Windows drivers which always worked fine under F32.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1851518] Re: [950SBE/951SBE, Realtek ALC298, Speaker, Internal] No sound on internal speakers, very very quiet on headphones

2022-11-13 Thread Drew R.
Thank you for your latest script. I did a diff, crossing my fingers to
find a difference, but it was only your commented out line starting
pulse audio... so they're the same :/

And thanks for the pacmd output. At first when I compared yours and
mine, they were the same... except my sinks, etc. were numbered starting
at 0, while yours start at 1 (though the same devices were listed in the
same order). But then in trying certain configurations, the outputs now
show identical. (I am not positive, but I think it's when I went back
to blacklisting snd-hda-intel for a moment that they became identical,
so its possible that module just isn't loading for you, and maybe that's
preferable).

I found the quirk 'alc298-samsung-amp' the other day, and also tried a
lot of configurations with that (using "options snd-hda-intel
model=alc298-samsung-amp"), but still no go. I was working on two
theories: 1) There's some small difference that matters between your
machine and mine, and trying to find it. Or alternatively, 2) There's
no important difference between our machines, but because your machine
reports as the "930XED", which is probably listed, while mine reports as
the "950XEE", which probably isn't listed, there are just some quirks
that are automatically getting activated for your machine but not for
mine... So I was trying to find those quirks (I'd love if there was a
way to 'spoof', and just make everything report that I had the "930XED"
to see what happened, but don't know if thats possible).

I'm still collecting ideas, because I strangely refuse to give up. And
I may start next down the whole qemu route. Two questions: 1) You say
its fairly difficult, doing the subsetting during playback, cause it
turns the card off shortly after turning it on... But you do hear sound
at some point in the process, right? That's all I need to keep me
going, just a little sound for a second ;). Also, 2) Do you happen to
have a url of a good blogpost/set of instructions that you followed for
that? I think the one I used pointed to an old version of the custom
qemu to compile, because there were just way too many compilation
problems. (I have my own windows partition, and I've downloaded the
windows realtek driver, so I'd love to just use that, but I gather it
has to be with a custom emulator to do the codec sniffing).

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
I've been googling this issue for 10's of hours and tried many things.

  Relase of Ubuntu: 19.10

Expected outcome: Music plays on the internal speakers and headphones.

Actual outcome: I can barely hear audio using headphones with volume
turned up to 150%. Absolutely nothing comes out of the speakers. (The
speakers sound great under Windows 10.)

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1995320] Re: [amdgpu] intermittent green static

2022-11-13 Thread Kai Groner
The static (seen in the video attached to comment #21) seems to be fixed
with the kinetic 5.19kernel + the bleeding edge mesa drivers.

I'm still seeing surfaces that get stuck sometimes (like the video
attached to comment #24, but usually without the corruption). This is
easiest to reproduce with videos playing.

This issue seems to describe the problem (not the crashes posted in comments)

After upgrading from 22.04 to 22.10 I've been seeing some display

  - firefox not refreshing when full screen video plays (separate windows,
separate screens)

I would guess I probably have the wrong package here, but there's no
way for me to tell if it's mesa, the kernel, gnome-shell, or something
  else.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1994126] Re: NULL pointer dereference in power_supply_get_property

2022-11-13 Thread DanWei
Yes, its definitly related to the USB-C Dock - if i boot without the
dock plugged in, it boots just fine with 5.19.0-23-generic.

And it also works as expected if i plug the dock in, when it has booted
to the Login-Screen.
