Bug description:
from man thermal-conf.xml, thermald should use /etc/thermald/thermal-conf.xml
by default.
So, that user can control the behavior.

  "
  - If the ACPI data is not optimized or buggy. In this case thermal-conf.xml
can be used to correct the behavior without change in BIOS.
  "

But, current thermald will always use the one auto generated:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2000108] Re: Apple Airpods Max do not connect via bluetooth consistently.

I was not accurate in my description. The headphones actually never
worked, never establish bluetooth connection. They do work well with
22.04.1, but not with 22.04.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1999968]

2022-12-20 Thread mario.limonciello
Yup, so it's a duplicate. The thing about the CSC3551 is that it can be
configured a bunch of different ways. Without information from ASUS
about how the design is wired up it's not possible to safely quirk it.
That's why it's best to get ASUS to issue a BIOS update to specify the
_DSD values to fix it.

Guessing at how the amplifier should be configured without proper
reference (to schematics or what Windows is doing) is a recipe for
disaster.

Yes, looks like that's the case - attaching my dmesg snippet. Would you know
how/where to report this to ASUS for them to work on updating the BIOS? I will
also look around their website/forums to post this request. Thanks!

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1970957] Re: suspend problem

2022-12-20 Thread Andreas
It seems to be a real HW issue on my Thinkpad 13. Tried with Windows on this
machine - same behavior.
Switched NVME with the Kubuntu 22.10 to another equal Thinkpad 13 and there is
all as it should be: Resume from suspend within a second!

BIOS, Intel Management Engine had similar revision. Exchanged also the
backup battery without any impact.

  suspend problem

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I've installed Ubuntu 22.04 on the ThinkPad E480. Suspend functions ok
intermittently. Some times it works fine, other times the computer
does not enter the suspend mode (the screen gets blank, but the
machine is still running and the ThinPad led is on, and there is no
way out... no response from keyboard or mouse... the only solution is
to switch off manually hitting and holding the power button), other
times the machine does not wakes up from suspension mode.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1995749] Re: [i915] Maximum resolution not available after suspend / screen detach

2022-12-20 Thread Peter Dedecker
Hi Daniel et all,
Only a few days after the previous post, the problem got worse again: after a
reboot I get a poor resolution but see the full 4K resolution available in the
settings. However, after selecting this one, the poor resolution stays and the
4K disappears. The new cable can't be broken after a few days though?

Is there a way to resolve or trace down this bug? Thanks!

Title:
[i915] Maximum resolution not available after suspend / screen detach

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I have a fresh install of Ubuntu 22.04.3, using the default Wayland, on my
laptop which is used at two locations:
  - at work I have my primary built-in 4K display and 2 additional 1920x1080
monitor connected to a HP DisplayLink docking station using DP, connected to my
laptop using USB-C
  - at home, I have my primary built-in 4K display and an additional 4x monitor
directly connected using the mini-DP

After boot, everything works perfect. However, after working at work,
putting the laptop into suspend (by closing the lid), attaching to my
monitor at home and opening the lid again, I get my external display
at a poor resolution which I cannot change to 4K in the settings menu:
the 4K resolution is not available. Also in xrandr, the 4K resolution
is not available. The resolution is however correctly provided by the
  monitor at all times:

  $ sudo get-edid -b 8 | parse-edid
  8
This is read-edid version 3.0.2. Prepare for some fun.
  Attempting to use i2c interface
Only trying 8 as per your request.

Previously, using Ubuntu 20.04, I've had the same issue using Xorg, which
could easily be solved by unplugging the external monitor and plugging in back
again, which worked most of the times, sometimes only after a few retries. Now,
with Ubuntu 22.04.3 and Wayland, this doesn't work anymore. Logging out in this
situation and logging in again in an Xorg session doesn't help either. Only a
reboot seems to help.

Additional debug information at a situation with wrong resolution can
be provided on Monday, as I just rebooted again :-)

Using Ubuntu 22.04, as of yesterday night upon rebooting the framework
laptop (which had not been rebooted for several weeks), the fans come
on strong and I see, with top, a kworker process at nearly 100% CPU
utilization, which makes the laptop unusable.

I have an early Framework laptop with an 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM)
  i7-1165G7 @ 2.80GHz.

I removed all USB-c expansion cards except for one with an USB-c pass
  through, to no avail.

With perf I have been able to determine that the xhci_hub_control and
perhaps xhci_bus_suspend are at fault. As a matter of fact, the laptop
cannot suspend any more, when it was working flawlessly until the
  reboot.

  $ sudo apt install linux-tools-common linux-tools-$(uname -r)
  $ sudo -i
  # echo -1 > /proc/sys/kernel/perf_event_paranoid
  # perf record
  control-c
  # perf report

What can be done to address this issue with a kworker?

I suspect perhaps the new kernel is at fault. I tried rebooting to the
prior kernel 5.15.0-47-generic and 5.15.0-46-generic, but with the
  same result.

What has changed? What can be done about this kworker and the
  xchi_hub_control?

  A temporary solution:

  $ sudo modprobe -r xhci_pci

… which results in the kworker process disappearing from `top`
(reduced CPU usage to near zero), the fans wind down, and
unfortunately the ethernet expansion bay doesn’t work anymore but at
least wifi does. Keyboard and touchpad also work. And suspend with
deep also work well, just tested it.

I assume other expansion bays will stop working too, but the laptop is
at least charging: the USB-c pass-through works.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1990876] Re: kworker high CPU usage: issue with xhci_hub_control from xhci_pci kernel module

2022-12-20 Thread Albert
Today I tried out an experiment:

$ sudo modprobe xhci_pci

(wasn't loaded before)

... and the kworker wasn't active. Hurray! But: then I opened "Cheese"
to test out the webcam. The webcam works, Cheese was using ~50% CPU just
to show me my own image (doesn't sound right), and when I closed Cheese,
the kworker was at ~93% CPU usage. So then:

$ sudo modprobe -r xhci_pci

... made the kworker go away. *Sigh*

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1999731] Re: disk stress test failing with code 7

2022-12-20 Thread Colin Ian King
It may be worth using stress-ng from https://launchpad.net/~colin-
king/+archive/ubuntu/stress-ng or building it from source using:

git clone https://github.com/ColinIanKing/stress-ng
cd stress-ng
git checkout V0.15.00
make clean
make

and then running:

./stress-ng --lockofd 0 -t 300 --vmstat 1

..and see if that causes the issue.

Then checkout V0.14.06, make clean; make and see if this causes the
issue.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1999731] Re: disk stress test failing with code 7

2022-12-20 Thread Colin Ian King
Return value 7 is "EXIT_METRICS_UNTRUSTWORTHY", this may mean the
stressor may have been killed manually and/or it terminated abruptly
causing it to be unable to store the bogo/ops metrics in a shared memory
segment reliably.

Only two commits have changed in the lockofd stressor since Aug 2022:

commit 6274835de403ec310b20d2771ccf21a523b94cec
Author: Colin Ian King
Date: Tue Nov 15 19:57:28 2022 +

stress-*: rename stress_not_implemented to stress_unimplemented

Signed-off-by: Colin Ian King

commit 7ccc5fe9d18b7d467e8279c0a791df6453e5a451
Author: Colin Ian King
Date: Tue Nov 15 19:47:32 2022 +

stress-*: add more explanation about stressors being unimplmented

It's useful for users to have some idea why a stressor is not implemented
or useable on the various systems that stress-ng can build on.

Signed-off-by: Colin Ian King

These commits didn't change the functionality of stress-ng's lockofd
stressor from what I can see.

Yes, looks like that's the case - attaching my dmesg snippet. Would you
know how/where to report this to ASUS for them to work on updating the
