[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2006080] [NEW] [Ubuntu-22.04] Installing Ubuntu 22.04 from PXE server does not change the boot order

2023-02-05 Thread Gnanendra Kolla
Private bug reported:

I am seeing a somewhat surprising behavior regarding device boot order
after installing Ubuntu 22.04 from PXE server. In most setups with PXE
as the 1st boot device in BIOS UEFI Boot Settings, installing OSes such
as RHEL, SLES from PXE server or virtual CD-ROM (using ISO image) on a
selected hard drive would result in a device boot order change after a
successful OS install and server reboot. After the server reboots, we
typically see the HDD/SSD (with the newly installed active partition)
take the place of the PXE device as the 1st boot device in BIOS UEFI
Boot Settings, and the system would boot directly to the OS bypassing
PXE boot (assuming no manual intervention) since the PXE device is now
2nd in the boot order. In addition to RHEL and SLES, I also see this
behavior after installing Ubuntu versions (such as 20.04) from virtual
CD-ROM and PXE server except for Ubuntu 22.04 installation from our PXE
server. Somehow the PXE device remains the 1st boot device after
installing Ubuntu 22.04 from our PXE server. In that particular case,
the system would eventually boots to Ubuntu 22.04 from the hard drive
after it boots to the PXE menu and timed out. So I don’t quite
understand why the boot order doesn’t change (for Ubuntu 22.04 PXE
install) compared with all the other OS versions and installation
methods. Even installing Ubuntu 22.04 using ISO image on virtual CD-
ROM would change the 1st boot device from PXE to disk. Could you shed
some light on this behavior?

Steps to repro:
1. Install 22.04 from PXE server
2. Reboot the system

Actual: Installing Ubuntu 22.04 from PXE server does not change the boot order
automatically. PXE device remains the 1st boot device after installing Ubuntu
22.04 from our PXE server.

Expectation: After installing Ubuntu 22.04 from PXE server, After the
server reboots system would boot directly to the OS bypassing PXE boot
(assuming no manual intervention).

 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Information type changed from Public to Private

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1978416] Re: External USB webcam is not working

2023-02-05 Thread Gab Racal
Moral of the story: Don't buy Hikvision webcams if you're a Linux user.
They work just fine on Windows and Mac systems. I really can't believe a
webcam can freeze the entire system including in-browser applications.
Hikvision states that their webcams are compatible with Linux but, I'll
be the judge of that.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2004613] Re: Intel UHD Graphics 770 (ADL-S GT1) max res 1920x1080, should be 4K

2023-02-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please confirm that the problem is originating at least as low as the
kernel:

  grep . /sys/class/drm/*/modes

There is also evidence in XorgLog.txt that the deprecated 'intel' Xorg
driver was used in the past but your inxi seems to show the correct one
'modesetting' is in use now. Can you provide a full system log to
confirm?

  journalctl -b0 > journal.txt

and then attach the resulting text file here.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1175465] Re: Alcor AU9520 not recognized by libccid > 1.4.2

2023-02-05 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Hi Ludovic Rousseau,
I don't have this device anymore, and this bug is really out-dated. I will
close it as won't fix since this was tested with an EOL series / kernel.
Please give 22.04 a try on devices with this 058f:6362 card reader. And file a
new bug if it's not working.
Thanks.

  Steps:
  1. Insert a MMC/SD/SDHC card.
  2. (The file browser will pop out.)
  3. Remove the pre-inserted card.

  Expected Results:
  1. The card will be removed from the /media, the icon will disappear from the
launcher.
  2. Open a file browser, and it's not in the devices section of the left
column.

  Actual Results:
  1. The card will be removed from the /media, the icon will disappear.
  2. It still listed in the devices section, if you click on it in the file
browser,
an error pops, telling you the device was not found, and the disappears from
the left column of the file browser.

The reason seems to be the eject event is not being sent through dbus.
Will try update later to see if it can be solved.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1960703] Re: USB TASCAM US-122L audio interface crashes when system load increases

2023-02-05 Thread Stephen
I can confirm this crash occurs, even without JACK. All I need to do is
increase the CPU load when running `arecord` as follows:

arecord --period-size=640 -c2 -fS24_3LE -r44100 -MDusbstream:CARD=US122L >
test.wav
Recording WAVE 'stdin' : Signed 24 bit Little Endian in 3bytes, Rate 44100
Hz, Stereo
arecord: pcm_read:2221: read error: Input/output error

Title:
USB TASCAM US-122L audio interface crashes when system load increases

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The TASCAM US-122L, in previous versions of Ubuntu worked okay, with
an occasional xrun reported by jackd, running with default settings
(sample rate: 48000, frames/period: 1024). In Ubuntu 21.10 the device
loads without problem, playback is perfect, but when the system load
  increases, it immediately crashes.

  dmesg:

  $ lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu 21.10
  Release: 21.10

  Reproduction steps:
  1) Start jackd
  2) Start OBS with an USB webcam at 1080p
  3) OBS monitor out goes to jackd/us-122L system port
  4) Start Zoom, Thunderbird etc to generate some load
  5) Immediately crashes

Crash occurs even quicker when adding and actively using another 4
channel USB audio device(same sample rate and period size). So the
issue seems related to the load on the USB subsystem as well as the
CPU load. I've tried just about anything to find out if the issue is
hardware related. Changed cables, used different hubs, no-hub, used
different USB ports on the laptop, etc, etc, etc. Same result every
time. Also normal playback using PulseAudio instead of Jack suffers
from the same. Each time a reset of Jack is needed to get the US-122L
  to work again.

I've tried, besides the default Ubuntu kernel(5.13.0-28-generic) the
latest upstream mainline kernel(5.17.0-051700rc3-generic) as well as
the low latency kernel (5.13.0-28-lowlatency). Same result.

If more information is needed, please let me know. Any help is much
  appreciated. Thank you in advance.
