[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2036862] Re: ath10k_pci (QCA9377) firmware crashes when charger plugged

2023-09-23 Thread Eduardo P. Gomez
That's the dmesg output from first boot (after wifi breaks). I could
include the logs from the time it broke, but it may be contamined by
other actions (my laptop has been suspended, and its known for causing
troubles).

I think it should be enough proof that there's some truth behind my
infos. I did almost the same step by step from before. Almost, except
the fact my laptop was charging while suspended and I'm in a different
Wi-Fi network (also 5Ghz).

I did opened the lid switch and wifi was already gone. I turned off the
laptop without the charger and the result was this log. Restarted again
and went back to normal.

Title:
  ath10k_pci (QCA9377) firmware crashes when charger plugged

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete
Status in linux-firmware package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  This issue only occurs when charger is plugged. My network adapter is
built-in in my laptop (it's not an usb).
  I'm also connected in a 5ghz network, so i suggest using it.

  === How to reproduce ==
  * shutdown your laptop (do not use reboot option);
  * connect charger to laptop and turn it on; (the firmware should start and
connect to the 5ghz network)
  * If no error is thrown, continue using your laptop and your wlan device. It
took me about 5 minutes to get a "firmware crash" error with code "-11".
  * If the firmware crashed, reboot (using shutdown command) your laptop with
charger plugged in.
  You might similar error: "device descriptor read/64, error -71"
  * Temporary fix: Unplug the charger and reboot using shutdown command (two
times as it might not work for the first)

  on screen like the following one: "Freezing of tasks failed after
  20.008 seconds (1 tasks refusing to freeze, wq_busy=0)". See the
  appended snippet from journalctl for details.

  When I touched the keyboard after the third such message, the system
  locked up and I had to shut the system down by pressing the power
  button.

  Fix Released

Bug description:
  After upgrading linux-firmware to 20230915.gitdfa11466-0ubuntu1, my
  Intel AX201 Bluetooth controller is not available post-reboot.

  The device itself shows up here:

  $ lsusb | grep -i blue
  Bus 003 Device 005: ID 8087:0026 Intel Corp. AX201 Bluetooth

  But running e.g. `dmesg | grep -i bluetooth` returns no matches, and
  bluetoothctl finds no controllers.

  Reverting to the 20230323.gitbcdcfbcf-0ubuntu1.6 package restores full
  functionality.

  n.b. Possible duplicate of LP:2036348 - I am not in a position to
  confirm those symptoms yet, but will update later.

  Running mantic pre-release on amd64:

  $ lsb_release -rd

Title:
  3D issues with AMD Radeon R5 m430 drivers

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I have a laptop with integrated graphics
  - Indel HD 5000
  - Amd radeon r5 m430

  When I run any game using dedicated graphics, it just freezes, freezing my
whole system
  When I switch to tty4, it spams this -
  ```
  radeon :0a:00.0: ring 0 stalled for more than 11228msec
  ```
  and I can't login in tty4, back to tty1 I forcefully kill the game and it
becomes fine sometimes, else need a hard reboot to fix(the reboot button or
sudo reboot doesn't work as well)

  I have this problem since updating to ubuntu 21.10, it was fine in
  ubuntu 20.04 LTS

  I tried switching to oibaf drivers but it didn't help. I have same
  issue with it as well

  Please let me know which logs will be helpful and how can I grab

  here is journal log - https://pastebin.com/GgtpXgqC

  and dmesg log - https://pastebin.com/TeTzVkzw

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1970048] Re: 3D issues with AMD Radeon R5 m430 drivers

2023-09-23 Thread Yash Patil
Nope, so far no fix for it. It's surely a kernel issue but I lost hope
of it being fixed. And the fixes on the reddit post (which is rebuilding
the kernel) is hard for me to do since it's my primary machine and I try
to avoid tinkering down to kernel level

I tried latest mainline kernel, things have been better with it (the
games kinda run, gpu does reset and restarts sometimes and things start
working) but that's it. No proper solution, the problem still exists

Again the people on reddit said the issue is because the hp varient of
gpu only supports 900mhz clock speed instead of 1030(which is listed in
the wikipedia page of amdgpus) which is causing the problem. So
essentially rebuilding to underclock to the 900mhz below mark should get
things to work but it's not something I can try right now
