[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2043299] [NEW] Linux 6.5 breaks Novation Components web MIDI application

2023-11-11 Thread Edward
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu version: 23.10
Kernel version: 6.5.0-10

Steps to recreate:
1. Open Google Chrome (possibly Chromium, or the .deb version of Firefox)
2. Navigate to https://components.novationmusic.com/
3. Connect a Novation Circuit Tracks via USB

Expected behaviour (demonstrated by linux-image-unsigned-6.4.16-060416-generic):
- Circuit Tracks shows up in UI with a state of "Connected"

Observed behaviour:
- Circuit Tracks shows up in UI with a state of "Connecting" and eventually
"Connection error"

Notes:
- Basic MIDI functions are present (sending notes, clocks etc.)
- loading the snd_usb_audio module with midi2_enable=N midi2_ump_probe=N makes
no difference

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2039409] Re: System freezes with UBSAN: array-index-out-of-bounds in iwlwifi code

2023-11-11 Thread Ryan Fugger
After over a week crash-free after disabling hardware video decoding, I
started getting the same crashes again today, despite not using any
hardware video decoding anywhere that I can tell. So now I'm stumped.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2039409] Re: System freezes with UBSAN: array-index-out-of-bounds in iwlwifi code

2023-11-11 Thread Ryan Fugger
I have been using the [Intel iwlwifi] network more intensely than I have
in a couple weeks today, so that's probably the cause.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2018128] Re: Apport does not collect all logs when the package is HWE kernel

2023-11-11 Thread lotuspsychje
I'm currently testing Ubuntu desktop 24.04 development branch with
kernel 6.5.0-10-generic

After filing a bug against the kernel; ubuntu-bug linux i'm getting a GUI
warning
the package is wrong and results onto this error:

But in case the user is not on stock kernel anymore and has the HWE kernel
  apport only imports 2 logs Dependencies.txt + ProcCpuInfoMinimal.txt

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2042075] Re: Black screen at login after updating to this kernel

2023-11-11 Thread Mario Limonciello
Each page you'll need the following binaries:
Linux image unsigned
Linux modules
Linux modules extra

Download those 3 and install them with dpkg.

Note: none of these are signed for secure boot. If you have that
enabled, disable it for this experiment.

After updating the kernel I restarted the laptop. After entering my

of, I guess i'd call it static.

The same thing happened with the previous kernel I installed, ending
.87, when I was running Zorin OS.

After un-installing the system returns to opening as usual.

Kernel 5.15.0-86 causes LightDM to disappear after 1s

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
This is to report a critical bug introduced with Linux kernel
5.15.0-86-generic and newer.
It does not occur with 5.15.0-84-generic and previous kernels.

I am running Xubuntu LTS 22.04.03 on several desktops, but this bug
only manifests on this specific system, which is a fairly popular HP
t630 Thin Client featuring an AMD Embedded G-Series GX-420GI system on
chip with Radeon R7E integrated graphics. Here is the neofetch output:

Graphics
  .+yddy+. Memory: 2786MiB / 31044MiB

  Symptoms:
The systems boots as usual, XFCE's LightDM Greeter appears for about one
second, then the screen turns completely black and the keyboard becomes
unresponsive. This implies that one cannot switch to a console screen using
Ctrl+Alt+F1 etc. to resolve any problems.

I was lucky to have SSH access from another system, to change GRUB
settings and reboot with the older 5.15.0-84 kernel, otherwise this
system could have been a loss. More importantly, this proofs the
  system did not crash.

dmesg logs were compared between kernels using meld, but no noticeable
differences were detected.
However, both working (84) and non-working (86,88) kernel dmesg logs show
similar ACPI errors; here for the 84 kernel, the 88 kernel dmesg log is
attached to this bug report:
