Bug description:
  [Impact]
Commit bdeeed3498c7 ("libbpf: fix offsetof() and container_of() to work
with CO-RE") from stable update breaks the ubuntu_bpf test build and
  cause net:udpgro_bench.sh, net:udpgro.sh, net:veth.sh in
ubuntu_kernel_selftests stopped working, as they require bpf selftest
  to be built first.

The following is extracted from the commit message:
The problem is the new offsetof() does not play nice with static asserts.
Given that the context is a static assert (and CO-RE relocation is not
needed at compile time), offsetof() usage can be replaced by restoring
the original offsetof() definition as __builtin_offsetof().

  [Test Plan]
Build bpf selftest in tools/testing/selftests with the following command:
  make headers; make -C tools/testing/selftests TARGETS=bpf SKIP_TARGETS= \
  clean all KDIR=/usr/src/linux-headers-5.15.0-85-generic/

The build can finish successfully with patched kernel source code.

  [Where problems could occur]
Fix limited to testing tool, if this fix is incorrect the bpf selftest
  build will remain broken.

AMD GPU display is blank when set lower resolution than native mode on eDP.

  [Fix]
On eDP the invalid modes are set, call mode set for valid modes instead.

  [Test]
Tested on hardware, all the modes shown in gnome menu can be set OK.

  [Where problems could occur]
  It may break AMD display.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2043469] Re: Low-latency kernel can't boot to desktop

2023-12-26 Thread Henry C. Gernhardt, III
TL;DR: Something's missing an install hook, and I don't know what needs
it.

I had this one bite me in the posterior just this morning. Here's what
I've discovered seems to be happening. When installing the lowlatency
kernel tree on a fresh install with NVidia drivers, the hook that
triggers `nvidia-driver-*` to recompile its kernel module doesn't
happen. I tried doing a `sudo apt install --reinstall nvidia-
driver-535` to force it to do so on my system, but the hook still didn't
seem to run.

I rebooted to the lowlatency kernel and worked from tty1. I installed
`nvidia-driver-525` which pulled down `gcc-12-base`, `cpp-12`,
`libgcc-12-dev`, `gcc-12`, and `dkms` as well as the`libnvidia-*` items
needed for building the kernel module. It then proceeded to do so for
the active kernels. Onde `dkms` had been called and the nvidia driver
kernel module activated, the desktop came to life.

At this point, installing `nvidia-driver-535` resulted in a kernel
module compilation and install. Everything now works fine.

I have no idea where this needs to go from here.

Thanks, all!

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2045920] Re: Touchpad and keyboard light not working

2023-12-26 Thread Eduardo Barretto
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Without the correct GPU ID in the driver, the system will default to
framebuffer mode, and some graphics functions may not work properly.

  [Fix]
Below commit included in v6.7-rc1 adds the missing IDs
5d5fea7c79a7 drm/i915/rpl: Update pci ids for RPL P/U

  [Test case]
  1. check the system with GPU ID A7AC or A7AD
  2. boot the system into desktop and connecting a monior by HDMI cable with
HDMI port or Type-C port
  3. make sure the external monitor works

  [Where problems could occur]
Add only IDs; there is no potential for regression.
