[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2054121] Re: Random Freezing

2024-03-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please try the newest one first:

  https://kernel.ubuntu.com/mainline/v6.8-rc7/amd64/

And if the freezes still happen in kernel 6.8 then try some older
versions.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2056716] Re: To support AMD Adaptive Backlight Management (ABM) for power profiles daemon >= 2.0

2024-03-10 Thread You-Sheng Yang
SRU:

*
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/gitea/kernel/noble-linux-unstable/src/branch/vicamo/bug-2056716-amdgpu-abm
 (unstable, to create PR when base branch is synced)

** Description changed:

+ [SRU Justification]
+
+ [Impact]
+
+ power-profiles-daemon >= 2.0 now utilizes AMD GPU panel_power_savings
+ sysfs entry to set desired panel power saving level. Related kernel
+ fixes are to be released in v6.9.
+
+ [Fix]
+
+ Two linux-next committed fixes are required. The first one introduces
+ panel_power_savings sysfs entry itself, and the second one extends
+ abmlevel sysfs entry to allow an auto mode.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ 1. Check existence of panel_power_savings sysfs entry:
+
+$ cat /sys/class/drm/card0-eDP-1/amdgpu/panel_power_savings
+-1
+
+ 2. Remove power cable and switch between power profiles from Power
+ Management settings. The content of above panel_power_savings sysfs
+ entry should be updated correspondingly.
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ While the abmlevel entry now has a different default value that allows
+ automatic power management, the behavior may differ from users'
+ expectation.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ power-profiles-daemon >= 0.20 is only available on Noble or later at
+ this moment, so only Noble/Unstable will be nominated for fix.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2054121] Re: Random Freezing

2024-03-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I'm running out of ideas. If it was my machine I would try booting a
different kernel:

  https://kernel.ubuntu.com/mainline/?C=M;O=D

And if that didn't work then I would even try changing the RAM in the
machine.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2056718] [NEW] net: openvswitch: add missing .resv_start_op

2024-03-10 Thread William Tu
Public bug reported:

Intro:
==
When hit a kernel warning when using openvswitch kernel module. Digging into
the source code, we found it's due to the code snippet
if (WARN_ON(i.cmd >= family->resv_start_op &&
   (i.doit.validate || i.dumpit.validate)))
 return -EINVAL;

in the gene_validate_ops() in net/netlink/genetlink.c, introduced in
108880a07bab genetlink: add iterator for walking family ops
from buglink
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2053155

How to fix:
===
We need to cherry-pick the missing patch
Fixes: e4ba4554209f ("net: openvswitch: add missing .resv_start_op")

Author: Jakub Kicinski
Date:   Thu Oct 27 20:25:01 2022 -0700

net: openvswitch: add missing .resv_start_op

I missed one of the families in OvS when annotating .resv_start_op.
This triggers the warning added in commit ce48ebdd5651 ("genetlink:
limit the use of validation workarounds to old ops").

Reported-by: syzbot+40eb8c0447c0e47a7...@syzkaller.appspotmail.com
Fixes: 9c5d03d36251 ("genetlink: start to validate reserved header bytes")

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2056706] [NEW] System unstable, kernel ring buffer flooded with "BUG: Bad page state in process swapper/0"

2024-03-10 Thread Ari Sovijärvi
Public bug reported:

After upgrading a homelab 24.04 test machine from 6.6 to 6.8 kernel that
was recently introduced, the test machine started flooding the terminal
with following messages:

[ 1877.712068] BUG: Bad page state in process swapper/0 pfn:58919

The process name varies and appears to be whatever is currently doing
something. I installed a fresh up to date copy to see if this could be
replicated elsewhere and the outcome is the same. Both of the machines
are VMs running under Xen with XCP-ng, although unsure if it's related.

The issue produces a notable amount of syslog entries. If left running,
the system will eventually go into a state where processes get stuck and
do not react to systemd control, even when there's no notable load, no
memory pressure nor is the disk space low.

Booted back to 6.6 kernel the issue no longer happens.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2056686] [NEW] Wishlist - Backport AMD pstate support for Threadripper 3000 series CPUs

2024-03-10 Thread Vishal Rao
Public bug reported:

See the patch
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rafael/linux-

Bug report is https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=218171

Apparently it's for kernel 6.9 so this wishlist bug report is requesting
to backport it to the 6.8 kernel to be included in Noble (24.04 LTS).

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2056682] [NEW] NFS writeback corruption - backport needed

2024-03-10 Thread Dan Aloni
Public bug reported:

Linux kernels 5.18 to 6.7 are affected by an issue that causes lost NFS
writes.

Reported here: https://marc.info/?l=linux-nfs=170861357200809=2

**A fix for it already exists in upstream**:

https://lore.kernel.org/linux-
nfs/170907634991.24797.14120500624611379...@noble.neil.brown.name/

Please make sure Ubuntu-maintained kernel packages receive the fix.
There are many setups using NFS to write files.

  [EDIT] the next error, repeating for ~1½ hours before finishing boot,

  That error was "Timed out for waiting the udey queue being empty."

  Bug subject altered to reflect this.

  That error was "Timed out for waiting the udey queue being empty."

  Bug subject altered to reflect this.
