afterwards made the patch publicly available at LKML [2].

Enable full touch support for ELAN0600 touchpad

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Hi,

ELAN0600 lacks full touch support if not registered with elan_i2c.ko.
I've got in touch with Benjamin Tissoires, who kindly provided me with a
two-lines patch that fixed the problem for my Lenovo Yoga 3 11 [1]. He has
afterwards made the patch publicly available at LKML [2].

Some more information follow, the bug is still reproducible with the latest
Vivid's and mainline kernels:

Bug description:
(This is a public bug report for LP1402828.)

This system has a dual-mode audio with an HDA and an I2S interface.
Which shows up depends on the reported _OSI from the last cold boot.
Since the kernels in Ubuntu 14.10/15.04 (15.04 uses 3.18 currently)
report an _OSI of Windows 2013, I2S mode is used for audio.

A workaround is to pass acpi_os=!Windows 2013 as a kernel parameter,
but this is non-optimal since the mode of the touchpad is affected. It
also results in an alternate, less used and tested path in the
  firmware to be used.

See the attached dmesg log for details on where the failure happens.
  Notably,

  $ dmesg -t | egrep (audio|snd|INT3438)
dmar: ACPI device INT3438:00 under DMAR at fed91000 as 00:13.0
  snd_hda_intel :00:03.0: enabling device ( - 0002)

haswell-pcm-audio haswell-pcm-audio: error: ADSP boot timeout
broadwell-audio broadwell-audio: ASoC: CPU DAI System Pin not registered
platform broadwell-audio: Driver broadwell-audio requests probe deferral

There's also a failure to load the codec firmware after a
  suspend/resume.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1166442] Re: Elantech clickpad/touchpad lacks multitouch features.

2015-02-16 Thread Alessio Treglia
This affects my laptop (Lenovo Yoga 3 11.6 2-in-1):

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ lsusb
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 8087:8001 Intel Corp.
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

Bus 002 Device 006: ID 8087:07dc Intel Corp.
Bus 002 Device 005: ID 1bcf:2c43 Sunplus Innovation Technology Inc.
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 04f3:2052 Elan Microelectronics Corp.
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0bda:0129 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTS5129 Card

Bus 002 Device 002: ID 058f:6387 Alcor Micro Corp. Flash Drive
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

Presumably the touchpad is the following line then:
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 04f3:2052 Elan Microelectronics Corp.

Excerpt of /proc/bus/input/devices:

I: Bus=0018 Vendor=04f3 Product=0400 Version=0100
N: Name=ELAN0600:00 04F3:0400
P: Phys=
S:

H: Handlers=mouse1 event12
B: PROP=0
B: EV=17
B: KEY=3 0 0 0 0
B: REL=143
B: MSC=10

The touchscreen works fine, as well as both left and right clicks. Just
the multitouch doesn't work at all.

More details on the system:

AFAICS the issue still affects Vivid too.

  == Original Report ==

  Hello,

So far I've been having a problem with my Elantech multitouch trackpad in
Linux. Basically all i get is right click, left click, and tap to click, along
with basic movement. The problem seems to be rooted in improper detection of
the trackpad, likely b/c its a new revision or whatnot. Of note is that working
elantech trackpads of the past in forums i scouted through show up as ETPS/2
Elantech Touchpad. Mine just shows up in xinput as PS/2 Elantech Touchpad. I
think this might be a simple fix in the end, just improper detection, I hope.
For reference, I've tried kernel 3.5 on Ubuntu 12.10 and kernel 3.8.0-17 on
Ubuntu 13.04 thus far, with all combinations of psmouse.
