[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1258715] Re: Waking up from suspension freezes up the system

2013-12-09 Thread Bernardo Ramos
Hello!
I just tested it again and asked the system to suspend activities via suspend
in the menu (top right corner).
After it got suspended, with the power led blinking, I pressed on/off button
and it presented the following message:
COULD NOT WRITE BYTES: BROKEN PIPE
STARTING VIRTUAL BOX KERNEL MODULES ...DONE.
The system does not answer to any key or its combination except on/off button
pressed for 8 to 10 seconds, in order to shutdown the machine.
The kernel version is 3.12.0-031200-generic as presented right above in last
message.

Waking up from suspension freezes up the system

I'm running Xubuntu 12.04 on an AVELL notebook model G1711 (avell dot com dot

interface (i5 Haswell).  However, when it suspends due to inactivity timeout or
if I ask it to enter in suspension (not hibernation) i freezes out. The only
way to use the machine again is by pressing on/off button up to shutting the
machine off, and then restarting it again.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1258715] Re: Waking up from suspension freezes up the system

2013-12-07 Thread Bernardo Ramos
I switched among many distributions in a quest for a good experience in this
machine. Some did not even boot the system. Ubuntu 12.04 ans 13.10 among them.
Mint 15, Zorin 7, openSuse 13.1 and Xubuntu 12.04.3 worked fine. These latest
two did better than the others.
Due to an abbudance of information in Ubuntu Community and personal
difficulties I move to Xubuntu.
However IN THIS PERIOD I waked Avell about a Bios update and They said between
20 and 25th of November 2013 this machine already has the latest bios available
(American Megatrends something).
On the other hand, the Clevo site you mentioned above says: Use it at your own
risk.
As I stil have 3 years of warranty ahead, I'm sorry but I'd go back to openSuse
or even go to W8.1 than installing even trying that.
There might be another way to solve this or keeping tis info out of the problem
scope.
Thanks in advance for your efforts and comprehension.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1258715] Re: Waking up from suspension freezes up the system

2013-12-07 Thread Bernardo Ramos
Are you sure?
The problem was detected running KERNEL 3.12-SAUCY, as described in the
beggining of the report.
The page you pointed to reports available kernels in version 3.7 yet.
I dis not send the report using it because the tool provide for deeper
investigations asked for an official kernel of the distribution.
So I rebooted the system and chose the original one.
What should I do then? (setp by step, please)

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 659405] Re: Xorg crashes on suspend

2013-12-06 Thread Bernardo Ramos
I'm running Xubuntu 12.04 on an AVELL notebook model G1711 (avell dot com dot
br)
I did not install NVidia Driver, running only intel's integrated video
interface (i5 Haswell).
However, when it suspends due to inactivity timeout or if I ask it to enter in
suspension (not hibernation) i freezes out.
The only way to use the machine again is by pressing on/off button up to
shutting the machine off, and then restarting it again.
I upgraded to KERNEL 3.12-SAUCY, have Oracle Java JDK 7 and Oracle VirtualBox
installed.
Initailly it presented ...done in upper left corner and nothing more.
Once it said also in upper left corner something like Loading Virtualbox
kernel blablabla [ok] and froze up.
I tried many distributions and the HW list bellow was produced under openSuse
13.1.
However my curent Kernel is :
3.12.0-031200-generic #201311031935 SMP Mon Nov 4 00:36:54 UTC 2013 x86_64

Thanks!
