Title:
  bcmwl breaks ethernet controller BCM4401

Status in “bcmwl” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
bcmwl blacklists module b44 in /etc/modprobe/blacklist-bcm43.conf which
causes that no driver for ethernet controller broadcom BCM4401 will be loaded.
Blacklisting module b44 by bcmwl seems unlogical because bcmwl does not offer
any driver for bcm4401.

This issue does not exists while using saucy live cd enviroment, but
after installing saucy you do not have ethernet connection

Steps to reproduce: install saucy 13.10

Bug description:
As you can see from the dmesg attached I'm getting the following every 5-10
seconds:
  [11332.456035] mei_me :00:03.0: reset: connect/disconnect timeout.
  [11332.456044] mei_me :00:03.0: unexpected reset: dev_state = RESETTING

This was happening with raring but I blacklisted the mei module. With
saucy it seems mei is included directly and is no longer loaded as a
  module.

What is the state here?

This issue still exists with a fresh install of 12.04.3 and 13.10. The
default used driver is bcmwl but bcm4311 does not work with it.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1244587] [NEW] bcmwl breaks ethernet controller BCM4401

2013-10-25 Thread Christian S.
Public bug reported:

bcmwl blacklists module b44 in /etc/modprobe/blacklist-bcm43.conf which causes
that no driver for ethernet controller broadcom BCM4401 will be loaded.

** Affects: bcmwl (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
