[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1450557] Re: 15.04: Broadwell HD 5500: screen corruption after logout

2015-09-27 Thread Daniel Convissor
This behavior is now happening in new trusty installs. I downloaded the
14.04.3 (64 bit) ISO yesterday and installed it on the Lenovo x250.
Upon shutting down, the corruption happens.

Title:
15.04: Broadwell HD 5500: screen corruption after logout

Status in System76:
  New
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  On a 1366x768 Broadwell i3-5010U laptop (System76 Lemur lemu5),
sometimes after I logout there is strange horizontal
wrapping/scrolling corruption at the lightdm login screen plus a fixed
  vertical wrapping (see attached video).

After the first time that the screen goes wonky, I see this error in
  dmesg:

  [drm:intel_cpu_fifo_underrun_irq_handler [i915]] *ERROR* CPU pipe A
  FIFO underrun

Logging back into to Unity seems to consistently fix the screen
  corruption after a few seconds.

This doesn't happen every time you logout, but probably happens 1/3 of
the time or so. Occasionally I'll also see similar corruption during
shutdown right around the time that X stops and Plymouth takes over.

Interestingly, on a Broadwell i3 desktop connected to a 1920x1080
external display via HDMI, I've never encountered this problem. So it
might be related to the specific 1366x768 screen resolution or to the
  embedded display port (eDP).

I filed this bug against the kernel because of the dmesg error from
the DRM module... but the problem could just as likely be in xserver-
  xorg-video-intel.

For what it's worth, I've tried the latest 4.0 mainline build from the
kernel PPA as well as the 4.1rc1 mainline build, and this problem
still exists with both. I've also tried the slightly updated X
packages for 15.04 from the xorg-edgers PPA, and this problem is
  likewise still present.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1479093] Re: Segfault in ld-2.19.so while starting Steam after upgrade to 3.13.0-59.98

2015-07-28 Thread Daniel Convissor
I'm seeing this too trying to run netflix-desktop under the 3.13.0-59
kernel. (Which worked fine until today.)

@fcastillo.ec: Stefan was telling us that the LTS Enablement Stack
(suggested by Ool) worked for him. Sure, you can use the 58 kernel if
that works for you, but do be aware that the 59 kernel contains security
fixes.

The LTS Enablement Stack worked for me, but do be aware, it removed
several other packages I had installed (netflix-desktop among them).
Upon reinstalling netflix-desktop, I'm back in business.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1472070] Re: Graphics freakout upon logout on Intel 5500 (Broadwell GT2)

2015-07-12 Thread Daniel Convissor
Cool, a new BIOS. Looked for one when I first got the machine. 1.15
came out subsequently. Installed the new BIOS with the help of
geteltorito. Here's the output you asked for. Thanks Christopher.

The problem persists.

Title:
Graphics freakout upon logout on Intel 5500 (Broadwell GT2)

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Got a new Lenovo x250 with HD Graphics 5500 (Broadwell GT2).
Installed 15.04 ISO downloaded about a week ago. On a default install
(which uses Unity, I imagine) had a situation on several occasions
when logging out of an account or shutting down the computer, the
graphics go berserk. The display rapidly cycles from right to left,
like an old TV that's out of alignment.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1472070] [NEW] Graphics freakout upon logout on Intel 5500 (Broadwell GT2)

2015-07-06 Thread Daniel Convissor
Public bug reported:

Got a new Lenovo x250 with HD Graphics 5500 (Broadwell GT2). Installed
15.04 ISO downloaded about a week ago. On a default install (which uses
Unity, I imagine) had a situation on several occasions when logging out
of an account or shutting down the computer, the graphics go berserk.
The display rapidly cycles from right to left, like an old TV that's out
of alignment.

Version Signature: Ubuntu 3.19.0-21.21-generic 3.19.8

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Attachment added: lspci-vnvn.log
