Title:
  amdgpu WQHD resolution(2560 × 1440) not available

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Hello,

  I use ubuntu 16.04 with hwe stack and an Radeon R9 285.
  With kernel 4.13 and older, I can use a resolution of 2560x1440.
  But, since the upgrade to kernel 4.15, I'm limited to the 1920x1200.

  I have attached the output of xrandr on both kernel.
  My screen (Dell U2713HM) is plugged to the output DVI-1.

  With a kernel 4.13, the output is detected as a DVI-I.
  But with a kernel 4.15, the output is detected as a DVI-D.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1785481] Re: amdgpu WQHD resolution(2560 × 1440) not available

2018-08-24 Thread Donk
No,
I tested a kernel with the noted commit in place and the problem was gone (git
bisect bad 3549130ef7f6ec732a7770ea0ac36231be85a089)

When I tested a kernel without the commit, the problem was reproducible
(git bisect good 52f401f9019975350bfd53e00026772fccde63fe)

To sum up:
if max resolution is 2560x1440 => git bisect bad

if max resolution is 1920x1200 => git bisect good

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1785481] Re: amdgpu WQHD resolution(2560 × 1440) not available

2018-08-24 Thread Donk
I followed this instructions
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#Reverse_commit_bisecting_upstream_kernel_versions)
to make a reverse commit bisect

Output of the last git bisect:

drm/amd/display: Call update_stream_signal directly from amdgpu_dm

There's no good place in DC to cover all place where stream signal should
be updated. update_stream_signal depends on timing which comes from DM.

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Title:
  amdgpu WQHD resolution(2560 × 1440) not available

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Hello,

  I use ubuntu 16.04 with hwe stack and an Radeon R9 285.
  With kernel 4.13 and older, I can use a resolution of 2560x1440.
  But, since the upgrade to kernel 4.15, I'm limited to the 1920x1200.

  I have attached the output of xrandr on both kernel.
  My screen (Dell U2713HM) is plugged to the output DVI-1.

  With a kernel 4.13, the output is detected as a DVI-I.
  But with a kernel 4.15, the output is detected as a DVI-D.

  amdgpu WQHD resolution not working

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  After upgrade to bionic the highest detected resolution of my monitor
  was 1920x1200 instead of the 2560x1440 that it is capable of and that
  worked previously.

  My graphics card is a Radeon RX480 and this seems to be related to the
  AMDGPU DC changes in kernel 4.15.

  This is also fixed on latest 4.16.5 upstream kernel from the kernel
  ppa, i.e. the maximum resolution is correctly detected without
  amdgpu.dc=0 as boot parameter.

  attached are the xorg files after booting the 4.15 and 4.16.5 kernels
  both without amdgpu.dc=0. The main difference seems to be the probed
  modes.

  WORKAROUND: Pass kernel boot parameter:
  amdgpu.dc=0

  When I choose "Safely remove drive" context menu entry for an external
  USB drive within a nautilus window or directly clicking on the desktop

  I have noticed that similar already happened with a very old Ubuntu

  USB 3.0 storage safely remove issue: re-detect (re-plug-in) the
  device(that I have removed already) soon

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  I have a USB 3.0 Hard Disk, a USB 3.0 Flash storage, and a 4GB micro SD with
USB 2.0 SD card. When I unmount devices, they still show up when I execute the
command. For example, when I plug in my USB 3.0 flash storage to my PC's USB
3.0 port:
  $ df -h
  ...
  /dev/sdc1 30G   17G   13G   57% /media/chen/MyFlash

  I ummount it and safely remove it, and run df -h, you will see it:
  $ sudo umount /dev/sdc1
  ...
  $ sudo udisks --detach /dev/sdc
  $ df -h
  ...
  /dev/sdc1 30G   17G   13G   57% /media/chen/MyFlash

  (4)Oops, The issue is an nightmare!! :( Please see the log )
  $ sudo lspci -vnvn > lspci-vnvn.usbstorage_usb3.0.log

  The behavior of my USB 3.0 Hard disk is same.

  (1) I plug in my USB 3.0 Hard disk to my pc's USB 3.0 port( the same port ).
  (2) My computer detect my storage soon and automatically mount it.
  $ df -h
  ...
  /dev/sdc1932G  205M  932G1% /media/chen/陈家胜

  (3) I ummount it and safely remove it, and run df -h, you will see it:
  $ sudo umount /dev/sdc1
  [sudo] password for chen:
  ...
  $ sudo udisks --detach /dev/sdc
  $ df -h
  ...
  /dev/sdc1932G  205M  932G1% /media/chen/陈家胜

  (4) :( Please see the log:
  $ sudo lspci -vnvn > lspci-vnvn.usbharddisk_usb3.0.log

  (5)And I just realize lspci have no information usb storage, so:
  $ lsusb > lsusb3.0harddisk.log

  (6)I unplug my HD and plug in my storage.
  $ lsusb > lsusb3.0storage.log

=
  And Have a try that plug in my micro sd card with card reader to USB 3.0
port( the same port ):

  (1) plug in my micro sd card , and :
  $ df -h
  ...
  /dev/sdd43.7G   38M  3.7G2% /media/chen/DiskGenius
  (2) lsusb:
  $ lsusb
  ( because i plug in my USB Storage to another usb 3.0 port, so my sd card is
/dev/sdd4 )
  ( Why i plug in my USB Storage is that i want get string of "Teclast
CoolFlash USB3.0" )
  ( from gnome-disks And I forgot unplug it...)
