[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1618511] Re: package linux-image-4.4.0-36-generic (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 128

2016-09-03 Thread Guntbert Reiter
I still have no idea what this was about - apport decided to report it.
So I am perfectly fine with leaving it to rot (unless someone else steps
in).

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1590125] Re: Middle mouse (wheel-click) button stopped working after upgrade to 16.04

2016-06-15 Thread Guntbert Reiter
blush :-/

After not finding a kernel where it worked I finally tried on another
computer, running Windows - and it didn't work either.

So it looks like a hardware issue that possibly occured at about the
same time as the update.

Sorry to have wasted your time.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1590125] Re: Middle mouse (wheel-click) button stopped working after upgrade to 16.04

2016-06-11 Thread Guntbert Reiter
The last Ubuntu release where it worked was 15.10 .
But I am not certain if it stopped working immediately after the upgrade - it
took me some time to realize it was not only me not pressing the button
properly :-)

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1590125] Re: Middle mouse (wheel-click) button stopped working after upgrade to 16.04

2016-06-09 Thread Guntbert Reiter
Just now I am running under

Linux big 4.7.0-040700rc2-generic #201606051831 SMP Sun Jun 5 22:33:44
UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The results are the same - all other buttons (1,3,4,5,8,9) work, the
middle button works never.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1590125] Re: Middle mouse (wheel-click) button stopped working after upgrade to 16.04

2016-06-08 Thread Guntbert Reiter
Christopher, thanks for doing that research for me. I upgraded the BIOS
(easy enough :-))

No improvement - the middle button is still not recognized at all.

The requested output (no idea if the "invalid entry length" lines are
important)

3707
Invalid entry length (16). Fixed up to 11.
07/12/2013
Invalid entry length (16). Fixed up to 11.

2016-06-05 Thread Guntbert Reiter
I don't want to hijack a bug report (see my test at #22), but I strongly
believe that this should not be offloaded to "a buggy BIOS".

I am experiencing the same behaviour on quite a different system, it is
(obviously?) a regression since it worked (on the same system) under 15.10 and
previous versions. I agree that my BIOS is rather old but the notion "well, bad
luck, you will have to buy a new motherboard to be able to use your mouse like
before" gives me the creeps. I hope I am overreacting :-)
For completeness, my BIOS-Version
