[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1499040] [NEW] Wily: Skylake: intel_pstate: fix PCT_TO_HWP macro
Public bug reported: The intel pstate driver is currently quite broken on on Skylake hardware. The symptom is that the pstate driver can scale the frequency up, but wont then scale it back down. So as soon as you hit a decent amount of CPU load, you get stuck fluctuating in the turbo frequency ranges, never even dropping as low as the base clock frequency. Obviously this has very negative consequences for battery life. Commit 74da56ce5c6715630aed3ccc0fcb86a9210c1a56 fixes this upstream, which is included in 4.3rc2: https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/next/linux- next.git/commit/?id=74da56ce5c6715630aed3ccc0fcb86a9210c1a56 I built a custom Ubuntu kernel with this commit and tested it on a laptop with a Skylake i7-6700 CPU. As measured by powerstat, this commit dropped the idle power consumption by 11 watts (from 34 to 23 watts, screen backlight was off during the test). I also tested this custom kernel on Haswell and Ivy Bridge hardware to make sure it didn't introduce any behaviour changes in the pstate driver on older hardware. As far as I can tell, on this older hardware pstate is behaving exactly the same with and without this commit. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1465706] Re: SRU: New upstream releases of nvidia for 14.04.3
I spent a lot of time beating on the proposed Trusty nvidia-346 (346.82-0ubuntu0.2) and nvidia-340 (340.76-0ubuntu0.1) packages yesterday, and things seem solid to me. Package upgrade/downgrade paths I tested: 331 -- 340 331 -- 346 340 -- 346 346 -- 340 I tested that things work correctly re stopping nvidia-persistenced when removing/purging 340/346, and I gave them my usually does Unity seem to work? sanity check and ran the unigine-valley demo. Everything seems good. I also tested the upgrade from the 346.59 packages currently in the System76 stable Trusty PPA, which although not of direct concern to Ubuntu is something I still needed to check and also attests to the overall correctness of these proposed packages. The upgrade from our 346.59 to the proposed 346.82 works swimmingly. However, I'm not personally comfortable removing verification-failed, adding the verification-done tag as the one thing I couldn't test is Optimus (as System76 doesn't sell any Optimus hardware). Note I only tested nvidia-340/nvidia-346, didn't directly test nvidia-340-updates/nvidia-346-updates. But AFAIK, the two flavors are currently identical, so I'd expect the results to be the same. Also note that I tested with the 3.16 and 3.19 kernels, but did not yet test with the 3.13 kernel. In summary: from my perspective, these proposed packages are good to go after someone else can test on Optimus hardware and test under the 3.13 kernel (and I'll test with the 3.13 kernel tomorrow if I have a chance). [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1450557] Re: 15.04: Broadwell HD 5500: screen corruption after logout
@myramenisgone - so the xorg-edgers PPA fixes this for you on 15.04? I haven't yet filed an upstream bug because I still haven't figured out whether this is a bug in the kernel vs. xserver-xorg-video-intel, etc. But if the xorg-edgers PPA fixes this for you on 15.04, that's an extremely helpful hint. So far my hunch has been that this bug is *not* in the kernel, as the latest 4.1rc* mainline builds don't fix it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1450557 Title: 15.04: Broadwell HD 5500: screen corruption after logout Status in System76: New Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: On a 1366x768 Broadwell i3-5010U laptop (System76 Lemur lemu5), sometimes after I logout there is strange horizontal wrapping/scrolling corruption at the lightdm login screen plus a fixed vertical wrapping (see attached video). After the first time that the screen goes wonky, I see this error in dmesg: [drm:intel_cpu_fifo_underrun_irq_handler [i915]] *ERROR* CPU pipe A FIFO underrun Logging back into to Unity seems to consistently fix the screen corruption after a few seconds. This doesn't happen every time you logout, but probably happens 1/3 of the time or so. Occasionally I'll also see similar corruption during shutdown right around the time that X stops and Plymouth takes over. Interestingly, on a Broadwell i3 desktop connected to a 1920x1080 external display via HDMI, I've never encountered this problem. So it might be related to the specific 1366x768 screen resolution or to the embedded display port (eDP). I filed this bug against the kernel because of the dmesg error from the DRM module... but the problem could just as likely be in xserver- xorg-video-intel. For what it's worth, I've tried the latest 4.0 mainline build from the kernel PPA as well as the 4.1rc1 mainline build, and this problem still exists with both. I've also tried the slightly updated X packages for 15.04 from the xorg-edgers PPA, and this problem is likewise still present. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1437913] Re: 8086:095b [Lenovo ThinkPad X250] Wifi unstable on vivid with Intel 7265
@sforshee - I'm trying to better understand the consequences of Ubuntu currently having an an old regulatory database version, as some System76 customers are having WiFi problems when connecting to AC routers with an Intel 7265 and `sudo iw reg set US` seems to fix their issues. In particular, should a regulatory domain be set automatically once the database is updated? Currently I'm seeing the world-regulatory domain (ie, not set), which seems to be an intersection of all domains and means some band that could be used aren't (in the US anyway). FYI, for anyone experiencing this problem, you can permanently set the reg by editing /etc/default/crda like this, replacing US with your country code: # Set REGDOMAIN to a ISO/IEC 3166-1 alpha2 country code so that iw(8) may set # the initial regulatory domain setting for IEEE 802.11 devices which operate # on this system. # # Governments assert the right to regulate usage of radio spectrum within # their respective territories so make sure you select a ISO/IEC 3166-1 alpha2 # country code suitable for your location or you may infringe on local # legislature. See `/usr/share/zoneinfo/zone.tab' for a table of timezone # descriptions containing ISO/IEC 3166-1 alpha2 country codes. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1442411] Re: Intel 3160 wireless card no longer able to connect to wifi networks
Okay, after some more careful testing, afcee962b09842d0f4191beb4a2d08251b4c7705 does indeed fix the problem. I was having some unrelated issues when connecting to 2.4GHz N when too far away from the access point (lots of WiFi interference here at System76 HQ). But the important thing is that when running the 3.19.0-20-generic kernel from proposed, I can at least *sometimes* connect over N when bluetooth is enabled (assuming I'm close enough to the access point). Whereas with 3.19.0-18-generic and earlier, I could *never* connect, not even when only a few feet from the access point. As such, I'm removing removing the verification-needed-vivid tag, adding verification-done-vivid. ** Tags removed: verification-needed-vivid ** Tags added: verification-done-vivid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1442411 Title: Intel 3160 wireless card no longer able to connect to wifi networks Status in System76: In Progress Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in linux source package in Vivid: Fix Committed Bug description: [Impact] Laptop: Lenovo Y70 Touch Wireless Card: Intel Corporation Wireless 3160 (rev 93) When running Ubuntu Gnome 14.10 (on a live USB drive) I am able to connect to wifi networks without any issue. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1442411] Re: Intel 3160 wireless card no longer able to connect to wifi networks
I'm not sure what the relevant difference is, but I'm still having trouble connecting to 2.4GHz N networks with an Intel 3160 when running 3.19.0-20-generic from proposed (when Bluetooth is turned on). In particular, my 2.4GHz N SSID frequently isn't showing up in the list of available access points. On the other hand, I didn't have trouble when I built my own kernel after cherry picking afcee962b09842d0f4191beb4a2d08251b4c7705 into the current (at the time) ubuntu-vivid.git tree. So I'm wondering if this patch is interacting badly with some other patch that has been merged into ubuntu-vivid in the meantime? @boratko, have you had a chance to try 3.19.0-20-generic from proposed? [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1458922] Re: No sound output via HDMI/DisplayPort available on kernel 3.19.0-18
I can confirm this bug on a System76 Kudu Professional (i7-4900MQ). Booting with 3.19.0-18-generic, I don't get any HDMI option in the Output tab in the sound settings UI. Booting with 3.19.0-16-generic, I get an HDMI option and it works fine. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1442411] Re: Intel 3160 wireless card no longer able to connect to wifi networks
Mostly just confirming what @boratko already shared, plus perhaps a few new details: The ingredients needed to reproduce this bug on Vivid: 1) Intel 3160 WiFi card 2) Boot with bluetooth enabled (turn on in the bluetooth indicator and reboot if needed) 3) Connect to a 2.4 GHz N router In this situation, I've not once successfully connected to my AP. When my SSID shows up in NetworkManager, attempting to connect my AP will fail and there is an error in dmesg about the authentication timing out. But occasionally the SSID wont even show up in NetworkManager, so I can't try to connect to it. With the same hardware and same scenario, this bug is not present when running 14.04.2 (with Utopic HWE). Some other details: 1) Turning off bluetooth (from the indicator) and rebooting seems a reliable way to work-around this 2) There are no issues when connecting to a 5 GHz AC router, and based on feedback from System76 customers, it seems 5 GHz N is fine and 2.4 GHz G is likewise fine ( the problem is seemingly limited to just 2.4 GHz N) 3) This problem is not present with Intel 7260 WiFi cards, only the 3160 4) I confirmed that the 4.1rc2 mainline build fixes this issue: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.1-rc2-vivid/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1442411 Title: Intel 3160 wireless card no longer able to connect to wifi networks Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Laptop: Lenovo Y70 Touch Wireless Card: Intel Corporation Wireless 3160 (rev 93) When running Ubuntu Gnome 14.10 (on a live USB drive) I am able to connect to wifi networks without any issue. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1450557] Re: 15.04: Broadwell HD 5500: screen corruption after logout
** Also affects: system76 Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: - On a 1366x768 Broadwell i3-5010U laptop (System76 Lemur lemu4), + On a 1366x768 Broadwell i3-5010U laptop (System76 Lemur lemu5), sometimes after I logout there is strange horizontal wrapping/scrolling corruption at the lightdm login screen plus a fixed vertical wrapping (see attached video). I filed this bug against the kernel because of the dmesg error from the DRM module... but the problem could just as likely be in xserver-xorg- video-intel. Interestingly, on a Broadwell i3 desktop connected to a 1920x1080 external display via HDMI, I've never encountered this problem. So it might be related to the specific 1366x768 screen resolution or to the embedded display port (eDP). I filed this bug against the kernel because of the dmesg error from the DRM module... but the problem could just as likely be in xserver-xorg- video-intel. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1293569] Re: iwlwifi-7260-8.ucode causes network disconnections problems
I put 3.13.0-32.56 with the iwlwifi-7260-8.ucode through around 32 hours of continuous testing on a 7260 WiFi card and encountered zero disconnects. I tested with a mix of both sustained high network utilization and long periods of inactivity, both when running on battery and when running on AC, so I feel this fix is solid, As such, I changed the tags: verification-needed-trusty = verification-done-trusty I've also been casually testing this on a 2nd machine (my daily driver), and have likewise encountered zero disconnects. Although this testing wasn't at all systematic, I was testing against two different brands of 802.11ac routers. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux-firmware in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1293569 Title: iwlwifi-7260-8.ucode causes network disconnections problems Status in “linux-firmware” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in “linux-firmware” source package in Precise: Fix Released Status in “linux-firmware” source package in Trusty: Fix Released Bug description: Running 14.04 (beta) with Kernel 3.13.0-17-generic I've encountered a strange and reproducible error with the iwlwifi-7260-8.ucode firmware. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1293569] Re: iwlwifi-7260-8.ucode causes network disconnections problems
I've been testing the proposed trusty kernel (3.13.0-32.56) with the iwlwifi-7260-8.ucode firmware, and so far so good: $ dmesg | grep 22.24.8.0 [2.840202] iwlwifi :04:00.0: loaded firmware version 22.24.8.0 op_mode iwlmvm Experience is similar to when I was testing Seth's patched kernel from a while back: disconnects happen far, far less frequently, and overall performance and stability seem improved. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1293569] Re: iwlwifi-7260-8.ucode causes network disconnections problems
Seth, Progress report from testing your patched 3.13.0-27 build... I made it through almost 5 days of continuous use without a disconnect. Even though I did eventually get a disconnect, it seems to happen far less frequently with the -8 firmware when combined with the disabled beacon filtering. Now that I'm running the official 3.13.0-29 build, I'm getting very frequent disconnects again. Often times I can't make it more than a half hour without a disconnect. So your proposed build definitely makes a difference, at least with the 7260 and the two WiFi routers I test against. Also, apologies for mistyping your name earlier. Scott, I've been testing your kernel build with the iwlwifi-7260-8.ucode firmware (22.24.8.0), and so far so good. Although the particular problem I've been encountering sometimes takes a day or two to occur, so I'll let you know how it fairs after a few more days of use. However, I have confirmed that my disconnect problem still occurs with the -8 and -9 firmware, when nothing else is changed in the Ubuntu 3.13 kernel (except for the max API version when testing -9). System76 customers are experiencing a lot of problems with 7260/3160 cards, and so we're keen on getting -9.ucode in a linux-firmare SRU, assuming that's the correct fix. Interestingly, -8 seemed to work much better on our products than -7 does, which I guess could be related to a lot of factors (different antenna designs, different card revisions, different APs, etc). For us, reverting to -7 seems to create problems similar to those that people are here attributing to -8. FWIW, on this 7260 (rev 73) I'm testing: Device: 04:00.0 Class: Network controller [0280] Vendor: Intel Corporation [8086] Device: Wireless 7260 [08b1] SVendor:Intel Corporation [8086] SDevice:Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 [4070] Rev:73 I'm frequently getting disconnects like this, on both the G and AC routers I test with regularly: [ 4917.138750] wlan0: deauthenticated from 00:21:29:71:0a:c1 (Reason: 7) [ 4917.154768] cfg80211: Calling CRDA to update world regulatory domain [ 4917.155185] wlan0: authenticate with 00:21:29:71:0a:c1 [ 4917.156421] wlan0: send auth to 00:21:29:71:0a:c1 (try 1/3) [ 4917.158939] wlan0: authenticated [ 4917.159211] iwlwifi :04:00.0 wlan0: disabling HT as WMM/QoS is not supported by the AP [ 4917.159220] iwlwifi :04:00.0 wlan0: disabling VHT as WMM/QoS is not supported by the AP [ 4917.161249] cfg80211: World regulatory domain updated: [ 4917.161256] cfg80211: (start_freq - end_freq @ bandwidth), (max_antenna_gain, max_eirp) [ 4917.161261] cfg80211: (2402000 KHz - 2472000 KHz @ 4 KHz), (300 mBi, 2000 mBm) [ 4917.161265] cfg80211: (2457000 KHz - 2482000 KHz @ 4 KHz), (300 mBi, 2000 mBm) [ 4917.161269] cfg80211: (2474000 KHz - 2494000 KHz @ 2 KHz), (300 mBi, 2000 mBm) [ 4917.161272] cfg80211: (517 KHz - 525 KHz @ 4 KHz), (300 mBi, 2000 mBm) [ 4917.161275] cfg80211: (5735000 KHz - 5835000 KHz @ 4 KHz), (300 mBi, 2000 mBm) [ 4917.162508] wlan0: associate with 00:21:29:71:0a:c1 (try 1/3) [ 4917.166334] wlan0: RX AssocResp from 00:21:29:71:0a:c1 (capab=0x411 status=0 aid=4) [ 4917.167410] wlan0: associated [18596.000601] cfg80211: Calling CRDA to update world regulatory domain [18596.007368] cfg80211: World regulatory domain updated: [18596.007375] cfg80211: (start_freq - end_freq @ bandwidth), (max_antenna_gain, max_eirp) [18596.007380] cfg80211: (2402000 KHz - 2472000 KHz @ 4 KHz), (300 mBi, 2000 mBm) [18596.007385] cfg80211: (2457000 KHz - 2482000 KHz @ 4 KHz), (300 mBi, 2000 mBm) [18596.007388] cfg80211: (2474000 KHz - 2494000 KHz @ 2 KHz), (300 mBi, 2000 mBm) [18596.007391] cfg80211: (517 KHz - 525 KHz @ 4 KHz), (300 mBi, 2000 mBm) [18596.007395] cfg80211: (5735000 KHz - 5835000 KHz @ 4 KHz), (300 mBi, 2000 mBm) [18599.790518] wlan0: authenticate with 00:21:29:71:0a:c1 [18599.791521] wlan0: send auth to 00:21:29:71:0a:c1 (try 1/3) [18599.844059] wlan0: send auth to 00:21:29:71:0a:c1 (try 2/3) [18599.899353] wlan0: send auth to 00:21:29:71:0a:c1 (try 3/3) [18599.954640] wlan0: authentication with 00:21:29:71:0a:c1 timed out [18611.935967] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux-firmware in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1293569 Title: iwlwifi-7260-8.ucode causes network disconnections problems Status in “linux-firmware” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “linux-firmware” source package in Precise: Fix Released Status in “linux-firmware” source package in Trusty: Fix Released Bug description: Running 14.04 (beta) with Kernel 3.13.0-17-generic I've encountered a strange and reproducible error with the iwlwifi-7260-8.ucode firmware. Even modprobe -r unloading and reloading doesn't fix the issue, only a reboot will temporarily solve it for 40 mins at a time. Moreover, here is what's strange, is during these episodes of disconnection it seems to affect the actual router (2Wire), as the other devices in the house will also start to have issues (very slow connections, limited range, etc). Once I reboot this laptop everything and all devices will return to normal. This issue has been fixed by me manually removing the -8 firware from /lib/firmware and letting the -7 firmware load instead. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1254581] Re: USB stops working after a while
Colin, Thank you very much for this bug report. I've encountered some stability issues with USB3 hard drives and the 3.11.0-13-generic kernel, but your report makes it sound like it effects all USB devices (at least when plugged into USB3 ports, it seems). I probably wont have a chance to dig into this tell next week, but I'll do my best. Thanks again! ** Changed in: system76 Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: system76 Importance: Undecided = High -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1254581 Title: USB stops working after a while Status in System76: Triaged Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: After leaving my workstation for a while, and then returning, my USB keyboard and USB mouse stop working. Actually, all USB ports stop working. The peripherals are plugged into the USB hub on my monitor. When I return, and the monitor wakes up, USB is dead. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1225458] Re: [System76, Inc. Leopard Extreme] suspend/resume failure [non-free: nvidia]
No, this hasn't happened on Raring, but it didn't previously happen in Saucy either. One difference is that the 2nd time testing under Saucy I was connected to a 2560x1600 monitor via DVI, vs a 1920x1080 monitor via HDMI. Later this week I'll be able to do more testing and to try and narrow things down. But I'm 99% confident it's not a hardware issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1225458 Title: [System76, Inc. Leopard Extreme] suspend/resume failure [non-free: nvidia] Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: This crash occured while running: sudo fwts s3 --s3-multiple=500 At one point the resume seemed to hang, so I did a hardware reboot, then got this Apport crash. We're in the process of doing our final stability testing to see whether we can use X.M.P 1833MHz when the memory is maxed out (8 x 8GiB), so there is a chance that this is a hardware issue. I'll test again under Raring to make sure. Note that thus far we haven't encountered any stability issues with X.M.P., so I'm not ruling out an issue in Saucy either.
