[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1324085] Re: 14.04 64-bit desktop installation kernel core dump

2014-05-29 Thread Jerry Ji
This bug is fixed in Utopic Unicorn, but how about Trusty Tahr? I
disagree with closing this critical bug because:

1. So many Dell XPS L502X owners out there are not able to install 14.04
(directly) due to this bug

2. It may also affect other similar models

3. If I mess up with my system in the future, I can only boot back with
13.10 or 14.10 release image, but not 14.04

In summary, I find it mind-boggling to leave such a critical
installation bug in a LTS release.

Instead of seeking to reverse commit biset the kernel, why not just
package a new 14.04 release image (with the proper kernel)?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1324372] Re: [Dell XPS 15 (L502X)] i8k kernel module crashes system

2014-05-29 Thread Jerry Ji
1. I never used the i8k kernel module myself and only want to give it a
try in 14.04 because my fan always seems to run at max speed. It is
supposed to have worked according to http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq
/controlling-dell-fan-speeds-temperature-on-ubuntu-debian-linux/

2. I am not able to test the linux-
image-3.15.0-031500rc7-generic_3.15.0-031500rc7.201405251935_amd64.deb
kernel due to conflict with my nvidia prop driver --

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1295285] Re: [Asus UX31A] suspend/resume failure

2014-05-28 Thread Jerry Ji
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1286552 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1286552

My Dell XPS L502X (RealTek gigabit eth0) is also affected by this bug.
After suspend/resume, even

sudo service network-manager restart

can not bring back the LAN connectivity

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1324085] Re: 14.04 64-bit desktop installation kernel core dump

2014-05-28 Thread Jerry Ji
I confirm that this bug is absent from yesterday's (May 28th) image (
utopic-desktop-amd64.iso ).

So the fix will be back-ported and a new 14.04 (desktop) image will be
released soon, right?
