[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2002834] Re: Network bridge issue after updating kernel to 5.4.0-137

2023-01-18 Thread Jon Schewe
I'm seeing this as well. Some information that may help. I found the
problem with 5.4.0-137. I found that when looking at tcpdump on the
guest and the bridge I can see ARP requests on both interfaces. On the
guest I can see it responding to the ARP request, however I don't see
the ARP response on the bridge interface. I booted back to 5.4.0-126
with Xen and everything is fine.

Network bridge issue after updating kernel to 5.4.0-137

Status in linux-meta package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hello,

After updating the kernel from 5.4.0-136 to 5.4.0-137 network bridge are not
working any more.
I can see the bridge with "ip add show" or "brctl show". Network is up and I
can reach the full network from the host through the bridge.

VM on the host can not reach network or host and host can not reach
  the VM through the bridge.

We have bonded interface used in the bridge and one bridge without IP
and one with an IP. DHCP is off on booth bridge.

Downgrading the kernel to 5.4.136 (Ubuntu 5.4.0-136.153-generic
  5.4.218) seem to work fine.

  Thank you for your help.

2017-07-28 Thread Jon Schewe
The last Ubuntu kernel that worked for me was 3.13.0-105. I had the 4.0
vivid testing kernel also worked for me. However I've gone back to
3.13.0-105 as it's part of the Ubuntu repository. I'm hoping that this
gets fixed so that I can move to a recent kernel.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1653162] Re: System won't boot after upgrade to 16.04 with 4.4.0 kernel

2017-05-05 Thread Jon Schewe
After running for about 24 hours I got a large number of "aacraid: Host
adapter abort request (2,0,0,0)" errors and then the following:

AAC: Host adapter BLINK LED 0x7
AAC0: adapter kernel panic'd 7.
sd 2:0:0:0: Device offlined - not ready after error recovery
sd 2:0:0:0: Device offlined - not ready after error recovery

sd 2:0:0:0: Device offlined - not ready after error recovery
sd 2:0:0:0: Device offlined - not ready after error recovery
sd 2:0:0:0: Device offlined - not ready after error recovery

At this point my root filesystem is read-only. It won't reboot remotely
because I've got logging turned on for sudo. So I'll need to physically
goto the system and do a hard reset.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1653162] Re: System won't boot after upgrade to 16.04 with 4.4.0 kernel

2017-05-01 Thread Jon Schewe
I finally got time to get access to the computer again. I tried the
4.4.0-62 kernel from xenial-proposed and received "host adapter dead".

Since I last tested I see that 4.4.0-75 is available, so I tried that.
The system booted. It gave me some messages about scsi adapter reset and
a messag about the scsi bus being hung, but after that the system
appears to have booted ok and I'm able to access the disk.

Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1653162] Re: System won't boot after upgrade to 16.04 with 4.4.0 kernel

2017-01-25 Thread Jon Schewe
It will be a couple of weeks before I can physically get to the system
again. So if you have other kernel versions you would like me to test,
please list them all and I can test them all at once.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1653162] Re: System won't boot after upgrade to 16.04 with 4.4.0 kernel

2017-01-24 Thread Jon Schewe
I installed all of the kernels and then rebooted multiple times starting
with my working kernel first and then going up in version numbers.

3.13.0-105 -> boots

3.13 -> kernel panic, can't execute /bin/sh
3.16 -> boots
4.0 -> boots
4.2 -> boots, after some time got some messages about host adapter reset with
possible SCSI hang, but it appears OK
4.4 -> boots

I have a Dell PowerEdge 1800 with Dell CERC 1.5/6ch RAID controller in
it. Everything worked fine under Ubuntu 14.04.1. When I upgraded to
16.04.1 the system won't boot. It can't find the root filesystem. I
see errors about host adapter dead on the screen many times. This is
with kernel 4.4.0-57 and with 4.8.0-32. When I switch back to kernel
3.13.0-105 the system boots just fine.

  I have mptbios 5.06.04.
The CERC card says bios version 4.1-0 [Build 7403]

When booting into the ercovery kernel I'm getting error messages about host
adapter dead.
  Eventually I get a message:
"aacraid: aac_fib_send: first asynchronous command timed out.
Usually a result of a PCI interrupt routing problem
update moher board BIOS or consider utilizing one of
the SAFE mode kernel options (acpi, apic etc)"

Using kernel parameter "intel_iommu=on" doesn't help. This was suggested on a
post that I saw about these errors.

  Booting with "noapic" didn't help.
Booting with "noapic noacpi" didn't help.

I've also tried the dkms modules from Adaptec and that doesn't seem to help
either.

I can't figure out how to upgrade the firmware or BIOS on the system from
Ubuntu either.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1653162] Re: System won't boot after upgrade to 16.04 with 4.4.0 kernel

2017-01-03 Thread Jon Schewe
I updated the bios to A07 as this is the latest listed for my service tag
1VMBS61.
I updated the BMC bios and the SAS controller BIOS.
Still won't boot with kernel 4.4.0-57.

>sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
A07

Title:
System won't boot after upgrade to 16.04 with 4.4.0 kernel

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:

Title:
System won't boot after upgrade to 16.04 with 4.4.0 kernel

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:

Title:
System won't boot after upgrade to 16.04 with 4.4.0 kernel

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:

I tried some other kernel parameters:

scsi_scan=sync -> didn't help
pci=nomsi,nommconf -> didn't help

For now I'm just booting the 3.13.0 kernel since I need the server up
and don't have good physical access to it.

Title:
Dell CERC Adapter hangs temporarily until reset. REGRESSION

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
The HD CERC SATA 1.5 RAID controller (PCI-64 slot) hangs regularly for 10-60
seconds until reset.
The CERC card firmware is the newest I can find reference to: 4.1-0 [bld
7419]. The Dell Poweredge 1800 has newest BIOS (A07).
All hardware has been tested thoroughly OK except possibly the APIC component
(Serverset Northbridge?).
The 14.04LTS with all updates (or not) works fine with a perfectly consistent
throughput of 77MB/s (slowest HD=66MB/s), RAID5.
15.10 has the hangs of 10-60 seconds, AND with newest updates as of
26-FEB-2016.
I have changed PCI interrupts around and moved card slots to minimize sharing
and removed cards - repeatedly.
All hard drives and cables have been thoroughly tested, but the drives are
mixed: 1 of 66MB/s, 1 of 125 MB/s, and 3 of 100MB/s.
The drives not only work perfectly in 14.04LTS, but all Windows versions and
DOS/BIOS-INT 19 as well (0x13).
I have tried all combinations of card RAID options Read ahead, Write cache,
and other BIOS options.
Relevant dmesg lines (these were consecutive):

I can't figure out how to upgrade the firmware or BIOS on the system from
Ubuntu either.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1552551] Re: Dell CERC Adapter hangs temporarily until reset. REGRESSION

2016-12-29 Thread Jon Schewe
Christopher,

I tried to file a bug report and it won't let me. I can't boot into the
4.4.0 kernel, so I can't file a bug report from that version and it
appears that I can't file the bug report from my 3.13.0 kernel either.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1552551] Re: Dell CERC Adapter hangs temporarily until reset. REGRESSION

2016-12-29 Thread Jon Schewe
I have a Dell PowerEdge 1800 with Dell CERC 1.5/6ch RAID controller in
it. Everything worked fine under Ubuntu 14.04.1. When I upgraded to
16.04.1 the system won't boot. It can't find the root filesystem. I see
errors about host adapter dead on the screen many times. This is with
kernel 4.4.0-57 and with 4.8.0-32. When I switch back to kernel
3.13.0-105 the system boots just fine.

Using intel_iommu=on doesn't help.

I have mptbios 5.06.04.
The CERC card says bios version 4.1-0 [Build 7403]

I can't figure out how to upgrade the firmware or BIOS on the system
from Ubuntu either.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1317811] Re: Dropped packets on EC2, xen_netfront: xennet: skb rides the rocket: x slots

2015-01-20 Thread Jon Schewe
So will this be fixed in 14.04 at all? I just upgraded to kernel
3.13.0-44 and I'm seeing more of these messages then before. This is on
a system that does NAT and DNS.

Bug description:
Running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS on EC2, we see a lot of the following in the
  kernel log:

xen_netfront: xennet: skb rides the rocket: 19 slots

Each of these messages corresponds to a dropped TX packet, and
eventually causes our application's connections to break and timeout.

The problem appears when network load increases. We have Node.js
processes doing pubsub with a Redis server, and these are most visibly
affected, showing frequent connection loss. The processes talk to each
other using the private addresses EC2 allocates to the machines.

Notably, the default MTU on the network interface seems to have gone
up from 1500 on 13.10, to 9000 in 14.04 LTS. Reducing the MTU back to
1500 seems to drastically reduce dropped packets. (Can't say for
certain if it completely eliminates the problem.)

The machines we run are started from ami-896c96fe.
