[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1939347] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 freeze since kernel 5.11

2023-05-01 Thread Juha Luoma
I recently hit this issue after installing Ubuntu 22.04.2 to Dell
Latitude 7490 laptop and updated everything (kernel 5.19.0-41-generic
now). I first tried with "options i915 enable_psr=0" in
/etc/modprobe.d/i915.conf, but that only delayed the freeze. Then adding
also "enable_dc=0" seems to make system stable. So full line in
/etc/modprobe.d/i915.conf that works for me is "options i915
enable_psr=0 enable_dc=0".

Title:
Ubuntu 20.04 freeze since kernel 5.11

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
Since the last kernel update 5.11.0-25-generic, the system freezes in a few
seconds or minutes, sometimes even on the login screen.
The machine is a recent dell latitude 7490. The graphics card is Intel
Corporation UHD Graphics 620 (rev 07). No multiboot. No problem with the
previous kernel 5.8.0-63.
I had the same problem with fedora a few months ago, which forced me to
switch to ubuntu without any problems so far.
  Thanks for your help.

Title:
  kernel bug null pointer dereference

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
After upgrading to linux-image-4.15.0-44-generic via the update
manager today, I can't log in anymore. The login screen appears, but
as soon as I've entered my password and hit enter, the desktop locks
up, keyboard stops working and display goes black. Network is still
working, so I could login remotely and see the crash live via
journalctl. I attached the full output of journalctl -k -b -1

  In short it says

BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0245
  IP: intel_ddi_post_disable+0x54/0x170 [i915]
  PGD 0 P4D 0
  Oops: [#1] SMP PTI

  Infos about my hardware:

  lsb_release -rd
  Description:Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS
  Release:18.04

  apt-cache policy linux-image-4.15.0-44-generic
  linux-image-4.15.0-44-generic:
Installiert: 4.15.0-44.47
Installationskandidat: 4.15.0-44.47

Rebooting to the previous kernel 4.15.0-43 doesn't have this issue and
  I can login without issues.
