[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2006042] Re: [Asus ZenBook UX430UAR] Laptop often freezes after waking up from suspend to ram
I used to experience this problem on my ASUS ZenBook 14 UM425QA-KI011 from time to time, but after recent upgrade (to 22.04.2? now I'm at kernel 5.19.0-32-generic) it started manifesting almost on every sleep/resume attempt - I'm getting black screen when trying to resume, the power button led is on and only holding it to reboot does anything. One thing to note: in this "unresumable" sleep state the laptop is draining battery and gets quite hot within tens of minutes. I switched to hibernate instead, which works more often, but occasionally it also has issues (probably unrelated: simetimes I think it fails to finish hibernation, a small "power" led on the right side is still on, or other times it hibernates, but after de-hibernating the system freezes completely with the screen showing the original pre- hibernation content). Providing some system info if it could help: $ cat /proc/acpi/wakeup Device S-state Status Sysfs node GPP1 S4*disabled pci::00:01.2 GP17 S4*enabled pci::00:08.1 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2006042 Title: [Asus ZenBook UX430UAR] Laptop often freezes after waking up from suspend to ram Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Hi, After waking up from suspend to RAM, my computer actually wakes up but can sometimes then hang on a black screen (no prompt, nothing displayed, screen is active). This issue happens quite frequently but seems rather random. I think certain circumstances lower the frequency (I'll elaborate in the report). First of all, I'm not exactly sure when it started but I would say first notable frequent occurrences were around summer 2021 (yes, I'm late, sorry for that). When this happens, Algr+SysRQ+[usb] is unresponsive. Or at least that's what I used to believe as it used to be true as I always tried from the laptop integrated keyboard. Until I connected an USB-C mechanical keyboard, from which I'm *sometimes* able to use the magic keys (not always, and with a lot of lag, but still). If magic keys are unresponsive, I need to hard reset/long press power. There is nothing unusual before that in syslog nor kern.log, at least not that I know of. Except the ^@^@^@ characters when I had to hard reset the computer. If I leave the laptop like that for a while, it eventually reboots by itself and stays on the FDE passphrase prompt (which is not nice as the screen can then stay on for a very long like that if I did not notice). I'm running KDE/Plasma desktop, and this issue has happened regardless of the display manager. I used to run Xorg but now I'm on wayland flavor (mostly to alleviate firefox rendering/compositing issues). This also seems unrelated to external screen being connected or not, as it happened in the past regardless of that parameter. Although, it *seems* frequency has lowered a bit since I changed the way I wake up my laptop. Higher frequency (almost every day): - no external screen or external screen connected to HDMI port - waking up from integrated keyboard power button short press Lower frequency (one to multiple times a week, but somewhat irregular, since ~ 2 months ago): - external screen connected to USB-C port - mechanical keyboard connected to USB-C port of screen - waking up from the mechanical keyboard It also seems to happen more frequently if I wake up the computer, do some very fast task and send it to sleep in under a few minutes. It's not guaranteed to happen, but seems to highly increase the probability. Also, this might be related so I'm adding that bit: I had to disable shutting the screen Off in energy saving settings, as enabling that option would trigger a similar behavior after a break long enough for that setting to trigger. I would come back on a laptop having self-rebooted and waiting for my input on the FDE passphrase prompt. During ACPI options testing, I noticed that setting might cause the sleep order to get cancelled. From that, I suspect in that case the laptop would go to sleep, then wake up immediately, which could have been triggering the bug as I described previously that rapid state changes would increase probability. Then as I described earlier, if I do nothing when this happens, the computer eventually reboots. This is only speculation as I'm usually not here to observe the behavior (this mostly happened during lunch breaks, which are long enough for all of these steps to happen). I disabled screen turn-off energy saving option a long while ago and have taken the habit of manually suspending to RAM when I intend on going away from the computer for more than a few minutes. As I described above, I've tried a few changes to check for behavior but that was a few months ago and I don't clearly r

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1753010] Re: after recent updates playing youtube videos in firefox causes sometimes freezing of the system
Right now the system freezed on opening complex js widget in Chromium with opened debugger. No Firefox and no Youtube were opened. Editing text files, browsing texts/images online, checking mail in Thunderbird may be done for hours without any problems. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1753010 Title: after recent updates playing youtube videos in firefox causes sometimes freezing of the system Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: After recent updates that fixed the bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1742675 on my computer the following different bug has appeared. That's why I think this information is rather enough; and I decided to post this bug. --- ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.15 Architecture: i386 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: kamil 2021 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC1: kamil 2021 F pulseaudio DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=5b5ffc28-8999-4ad7-9ff3-f3298c4f28c2 InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-06-23 (252 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS "Xenial Xerus" - Release i386 (20170215.2) MachineType: Packard Bell Easynote ENTE70BH Package: linux (not installed) ProcFB: 0 inteldrmfb ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.13.0-36-generic root=UUID=557e3c22-0c8c-44b3-a8f6-5446013327ad ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.13.0-36.40~16.04.1-generic 4.13.13 PulseList: Error: command ['pacmd', 'list'] failed with exit code 1: Home directory not accessible: Permission denied No PulseAudio daemon running, or not running as session daemon. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1753010] [NEW] after recent updates playing youtube videos in firefox causes sometimes freezing of the system
Public bug reported: After recent updates that fixed the bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1742675 on my computer the following different bug has appeared. Playing Youtube music videos (static picture + music, length 40-70 minutes) in Firefox (as background for other activities on computer) causes sometimes (rather often, up to several times per day) freezing of the system. And only restart through reset button can help. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1742675] Re: after upgrade to linux-image-extra-4.13.0-26-generic the system does not start at all
I'm author of this bug report. The bug has been resolved by the recent upgrade. BUT... during recent days the system freezed rather often and required restart to be usable again. It happened randomly in the following circumstances, for example: a) manipulation with complex js widgets by mouse; b) running heavy job in gulp through yarn; c) and some other unrelated activities. Question: is there a way to collect any diagnostics data to post reasonable bug report for this system behavior that will be enough to fix this new bug? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1742675 Title: after upgrade to linux-image-extra-4.13.0-26-generic the system does not start at all Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: After upgrade to linux-image-extra-4.13.0-26-generic the system does not start at all. Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1573700] Re: Kernel instability
Hi, I don't recall having these problems prior 4.4 kernel but it could be that they were not as pronounced and reported. I can confirm the same issue on 4.5.2 kernel though. I can't easily test the 4.6 RC kernel because of nvidia DKMS incompatibility. I tried it with no luck - some interface changed and DKMS compilation failes (package configure phase). The log is attached. I can re-test it with updated DKMS if available. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1300914] Re: External screen undetected after first plug
I am on ubuntu 14.04. fix pack 1 = linux kernel 3.16.0-33. HP Elitebook 840 There is no more *ERROR* too many retries, in the log, but the behaviour is still the same as people describe above. When VGA is connected to the docking station, reboot fixes the problem When VGA is connected directly to the laptop and the laptop is undocked, the problem may be fixed just by sleep/resume, no reboot needed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1300914 Title: External screen undetected after first plug Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: On Ubuntu 14.04, the external screen plugged on VGA is detected and get activated correctly. However, if I unplug it and then replug it later, it is not detected anymore and the screen receives no signal. A way to get it back to work is to reboot or simply suspend the computer. Sorry but I have no idea of what package is handling that. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1309578] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 suddenly reboots when booting from Live USB AMD A8 6600k
The title of that bug should be renamed to "Kernel 3.13 still broken on Radeon HD based desktops and laptops" like Sangeet is suggesting. I used option "Install new hardware support" on 12.04 LTS and I my system started rebooting because this step installed kernel 3.13. Important side-effect was scanning disc drive everytime after reboot (cancelling didn't help as drive coudn't be mounted). Similar problem I found during installing fresh 14.04.01 - during starint X server for isntaller my computer is rebooted. My system - Motherboard: MSI FM2-A55M-E33 (MS-7721), CPU: AMD A10-5700 APU, GPU: [AMD/ATI] Trinity [Radeon HD 7660D] Bug is opened 4 months for 14.04 but at least user experience it upfront but I don't understand why you are introducing this LEVEL of bug in 12.04 LTS if it is already known. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1309578 Title: Ubuntu 14.04 suddenly reboots when booting from Live USB AMD A8 6600k Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I have a custom built AMD System with the following hardware currently running on Linux Mint 16 : AMD A8 6600k with Integrated graphics | MSI-FM2-A55M-E33 Motherboard | Kingston Hyperx Blu 4GB RAM | Corsair VS450 PSU Today when I tried to install 14.04 amd64 iso using a bootable USB, then the system rebooted. Any further attempts in installing it resulted in the same bug. As soon as I open the "Ubuntu installer" application and click "Continue" button then the system restarts after 2-3 seconds. I asked the same on AskUbuntu and some more guys reported the same problem with AMD APU, so I believe it to be a genuine bug and not just with me. The BIOS version is the latest one downloaded from MSI official website which is version 11.5. Also an Interesting thing is that this bug is common with the latest iso of Arch Linux too, but when booting older distros like Linux Mint 16 from USB, then everything works like it should, so it might have something to do with the newer 3.13 Kernel version. I am not an expert, but I can surely tell that only the newer distros are affected by this bug as reported by some other guys at AskUbuntu and the fact that Arch which is running the newer Kernel is having the same bug, so it probably has something to do with the newer Kernel, but I could be wrong. This bug is not letting me install Ubuntu 14.04 on my hardware and it is affecting a few more users too. Here is the AskUbuntu thread : http://askubuntu.com/questions/449391/unable-to-install-ubuntu-14-04 -pc-restarts-after-i-click-continue-button-in I hope this gets fixed soon or with the 14.04.1 upcoming July release.
