Just in case anyone is interested, the problem is still there after a
fresh install of Linux Mint 18 ( macbook pro retina 10.1). The following
alleviates (etc. as above except in my case gpe16):

echo "disable" > /sys/firmware/acpi/interrupts/gpe16

  I've this issue since the latest Ubuntu 11.10 version, all updates
  applied till today, and it's still there. Ubuntu 11.04 did not have
  this issue.

  If I run top there is a Kworker constantly taking much CPU, I don't
  know how to research where this comes from.

Problem persists after upgrading to Saucy from Raring ( macbook pro
retina 10.1) - CPU1 always close to 100% (gnome-system-monitor).
