[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1265947] Re: 046d:c52b [XFX MI-A78S-8209] USB keyboard and mouse not detected with newer kernels

2014-01-04 Thread Kyle Echols
I have booted through the following kernels, with the results listed:
Current -RC build - works
3.12.6-trusty - works
3.12.5-trusty - works
3.12.4-trusty - wouldn't boot, No init found -- confirmed boot settings matched
working 3.8 kernels in grub configs, ran update-grub, still didn't boot
3.12.3-trusty - works
3.12.0-saucy - works

Please let me know if I need to continue testing further back.

Title:
046d:c52b [XFX MI-A78S-8209] USB keyboard and mouse not detected with
  newer kernels

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I have a Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse combo that uses a unifying
receiver ([Logitech Unifying Device. Wireless PID:101b). Using
Mythbuntu 12.04.3, fully patched, kernel version 3.8.0-35-generic the
receiver, keyboard, and mouse all function correctly. Using ubuntu
14.04 (12/28 Daily) and 13.10, these devices do not work reliably.
Sometimes they are not available after a reboot, other times, they
will just stop responding after not being used for a few minutes. In
either case, at least one reboot is required to get the keyboard and
mouse to be detected and work again. I found this issue while

2014-01-03 Thread Kyle Echols
The keyboard and mouse are working with Mythbuntu 12.04.3 using kernel
3.13-rc6-trusty, HDMI audio is also working. However, the nvidia binary
driver versions 3.04 and 3.31 are failing to load with this kernel, so
I'm without desktop acceleration.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1264636] Re: HDMI Audio out fails on Geforce 8200 (MCP78)

2014-01-02 Thread Kyle Echols
After more than a few attempts, I was able to get keyboard and mouse
working on the 12/28 alpha build of 14.04 (kernel version
3.12.0-7-generic ), with this release, hdmi audio just works after un-
muting the correct output in alsamixer. Since this is not an installed
release, i couldn't install the nvidia drivers so can't confirm
stability with them. My USB keyboard and mouse stopped responding
entirely after be left alone for a few (10 ) minutes.

So audio is fixed, but there is still an intermittent USB issue with
this kernel release.

I will be re-installing 12.04.3 tonight so that I can make sure I have
not missed anything in the steps to get sound working and to try to get
something resembling stability back to this machine. Once the install is
complete, I'll update to the latest kernel, retest, and report back.

Title:
HDMI Audio out fails on Geforce 8200 (MCP78)

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I have an XFX Geforce 8200 (MCP78) motherboard. While HDMI video out
works fine, HDMI audio doesn't work with the 3.8 kernel (3.8.0-29 or
3.8.0-34), I've tried with both the nouveau and nvidia binary drivers.
The analog outputs work with either driver.

WORKAROUND: After upgrading to kernel 3.11.10-031110-generic, from the kernel
mainline PPA, and using the nouveau drivers I'm able to get audio out over
HDMI, using the following options in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf:
  options snd-hda-intel single_cmd=1 probe_mask=-1,0x8 unmute iec958

While using this configuration, I have audio and it's mostly stable,
however, I'm unable to take advantage of 3d acceleration and HD video
playback is choppy. If I then use the any of the nvidia drivers (304,
319, 331, or current) I get frequent crashes, including system
lockups. I have confirmed with VLC, mplayer2, and speaker-test that no
audio comes out through HDMI until the 3.11 kernel, nouveau drivers,
and the modprobe options mentioned are all in place.

I'm attaching 20131228_logs.zip containing the output of:
  aplay -lL (aplay_out)
  lspci -k (lspci_out)
  and the following additional files:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1264636] Re: HDMI Audio out fails on Geforce 8200 (MCP78)

2014-01-01 Thread Kyle Echols
I've tested with the ubuntu 14.04 Alpha (12/28 build) and ubuntu 13.10
and was unable to use my keyboard or mouse, this appears to be due to an
upstream kernel bug, https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60507.
This problem also exists for 12.04.3 with the 3.11 kernel, however, it
is intermittent and a reboot will usually clear it up. I will test
12.04 with the latest kernel either later today or in the next couple of
days and update further.

I'm attaching 20131228_logs.zip containing the output of:
  aplay -lL (aplay_out)
  lspci -k (lspci_out)
  and the following additional files:
  dmesg
  dmesg.0
  lsb-release

  uname -a returns:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1264636] Re: HDMI Audio out fails on Geforce 8200 (MCP78)

2013-12-28 Thread Kyle Echols
Attaching output of alsa-info.sh while running the 3.11.10 kernel (alsa-
info.txt.kernel_3.11.10_20131228), I can roll back to the release kernel
and re-run the script if needed.
