[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1752437] Re: [HP ENVY x360 - 15-bq102ng] Touchscreen does not work

2018-03-29 Thread Marc Rene Schädler
Thanks, I tried it.

marc@snapbug:~$ uname -a
Linux snapbug 4.15.0-14-generic #15~lp1752437 SMP Thu Mar 29 17:32:02 CST 2018
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

However the error is still there and the touchpad does not work:

[1.332642] amd_gpio AMDI0030:00: Failed to get gpio IRQ: -22
[1.332845] amd_gpio: probe of AMDI0030:00 failed with error -22

I attached the full output of dmesg.
Would the Differentiated System Description Table of any help?

There is also an interesting discussion on kernel.org about this issue

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1752437] Re: [HP ENVY x360 - 15-bq102ng] Touchscreen does not work

2018-03-22 Thread Marc Rene Schädler
The device seems to be a "ELAN0732".

There were attempts to include the missing bits already which, however,
was not successful [1].

Bug description:
I'm using an HP Envy x360 M6-ar004dx with an AMD 7th-gen FX APU, and
the touchscreen will not work. Dmesg shows i2c_hid reporting multiple
"failed to reset device" error messages before finally failing to add
it as an HID device with error -61. As far as I can tell, it's being
detected as an ELAN touchscreen. I've seen reports that this error can
be fixed in newer kernels, as the touchscreen uses GPIO interrupts
which are fixed in versions 4.6 and later. Most of the information I
can find indicates that 4.7 includes improved AMD support, but the
mainline kernel build appears to be missing the AMD GPIO drivers,
since I get a "failed to get GPIO interrupt" error. I've compiled my
own 4.7 kernel from the mainline GIT, including the patches used in
kernel-ppa/mainline and setting the right config flags for AMD GPIO,
but that just gets me the same errors I'm seeing in 4.4.0-31-generic.
For additional info, I'm attaching my dmesg output in its entirety.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1609601] Re: i2c_hid: probe of i2c-ELAN0732:00 failed with error -61

2018-02-13 Thread Marc Rene Schädler
Oh I see... probably mine is a different problem (attached updated output of
dmesg).
I thought the following error could be related to the issue:

amd_gpio AMDI0030:00: Failed to get gpio IRQ: -22

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1609601] Re: i2c_hid: probe of i2c-ELAN0732:00 failed with error -61

2018-01-17 Thread Marc Rene Schädler
I think the new Raven Ridge ENVY x360 are affected as well.
My HP ENVY x360 15-bq102ng shows

/sys/bus/i2c/devices/i2c-ELAN0732:00$ ls
firmware_node modalias name power subsystem uevent

But the touchscreen does not work or show up elsewhere (e.g., xinput --list)
This is still true with the latest kernel (4.15 RC8+ as of writing) from
https://github.com/M-Bab/linux-kernel-amdgpu-binaries/

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1690085] Re: Ryzen 1800X freeze - rcu_sched detected stalls on CPUs/tasks

2017-07-06 Thread Marc Rene Schädler
Was this issue officially confirmed to be a hardware bug in Ryzen processors by
AMD?
If so, could you provide a link to the statement?

Disabling address space layout randomization (ASLR) seems to alleviate
the problem, but does it solve it?

I am investigating unstable behavior under load which could be related.
There, disabling ASLR is not sufficient!
People suggest to increase SOC voltages, use specific versions of the kernel
and the like.
See https://community.amd.com/thread/215773?start=135=0 for more info.

  Ryzen 1800X freeze - rcu_sched detected stalls on CPUs/tasks

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Hi,

We aregetting various kernel crash on a pretty new config.
We're using Ryzen 1800X CPU with X370 Gaming Pro Carbon MB (7A32V1) using
latest BIOS available (1.52)

We are running Ubuntu 17.04 (amd64), we've tried different kernel version,
native one and releases from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ too.
  Tested kernel version:

  native 17.04 kernel
  4.10.15

Issues are the same, we're getting random freeze on the machine.

Depending on the kernel version, we've got NMI watchdog errors related to CPU
stuck (mentioning the CPU core id, which is random).
Crash is happening randomly, but in general after some hours (3-4h).

Now, we've installed kernel 4.11.0-041100-generic #201705041534 this morning
and waiting for crash...
For now, the machine is not "used", at least, it's not CPU stressed...

  Thanks

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1427330] Re: AMD Kaveri APU/CPU frequency scaling not working on linux 3.19

2015-03-08 Thread Marc Rene Schädler
Maybe an interesting point:
On Kernel 3.19.0-7 after suspending-to-ram the frequency scaling works.

2015-03-07 Thread Marc Rene Schädler
If the question is just between 4.0-rc1 and 4.0-rc2 than this is easy: rc1 does
not work rc2 does.
If you want me to build kernels myself than I am sorry, but I cannot provide
this information at the moment.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1427330] Re: AMD Kaveri APU/CPU frequency scaling not working on linux 3.19

2015-03-05 Thread Marc Rene Schädler
Output of uname -a

I dont know how to get the actual frequency of the processor without
cpupower which requires some linux-tools-* which are not available
with the mainline kernel.

Nonetheless the quick benchmark with octave
 time echo a=rand(3000);a*a; | octave -q
reports less than 4 seconds, which indicates that the frequency scaling does
seem to work with this kernel.
