Title:
  constant machine crashes

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Since I upgraded to Zesty, I have experienced constant soft crashes on
my machine. Symptoms are that I can still move the mouse cursor around
on my X display, but none of the windows respond to button or key
presses. The mouse cursor will even trigger edge-flips when bumping up
against the edge of the screen, but the key bindings to do the same do
not work. Sometimes (more often not) I can ssh into the machine to
reboot, but most attempts just time out after the "connection
establised" message. If I attempt to switch to a text console (eg.
ctrl-alt-F1), the machine appears to lock up completely (even the
  mouse stops responding).

Obviously, I can't collect a log during the problem. I have to reboot
by holding down the power button! But after that, this is what I
  typically find in the kern.log:

Title:
"invalid opcode" on ASUS ZENBOOK UX410UA-GV017T freezing the system

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hello,
ever since I got my ASUS ZENBOOK UX410UA-GV017T with Intel i3 Kaby Lake
processor (February this year) I've been experiencing weird behavior with
Xubuntu 17.04 (I have been using its development version at first). It freezes
once in a while but at least twice a week when used daily.

Last time my Web browser (Firefox) froze, then after I killed it my
mouse pointer disapeared and shortly after that (like a few seconds)
the whole computer stopped working and the only thing I could do was a
  hard reboot.

Usually this doesn't happen and the system dies immediately.

Here is the kernel log from the last occurrence taken from the dmesg
  ("invalid opcode" sounds scary):

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1674838] Re: kernel BUG at /build/linux-7LGLH_/linux-4.10.0/include/linux/swapops.h:129

2017-04-16 Thread Mathieu Marquer
Update from me, the patch for my display crash has been included in 4.11
RC5, and I'm not encountering the kernel bug anymore there, so it's 99%
definitely fixed in 4.11 branch.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1674838] Re: kernel BUG at /build/linux-7LGLH_/linux-4.10.0/include/linux/swapops.h:129

2017-03-23 Thread Mathieu Marquer
So I *thnk* it's fixed in 4.11 RC3, although I'm not fully sure because
I was encountering bug
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=100181 which made display
crash about every 30 minutes, but after a few hours testing I didn't
encounter this kernel bug, while it appeared after ~45 minutes when back
on 4.10.

Hi,

I don't remember encountering this bug with Linux 4.8, happens about
every 1-3 hours with Linux 4.10 (although I couldn't figure out a way to
reproduce it).

I'll try with Linux 4.11 RC3 and tell you how it goes.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1419518] Re: [LENOVO 20344] suspend/resume failure

2015-03-03 Thread Mathieu Marquer
Tried to reproduce with both current vivid kernel and 4.0-rc2, so far
this bug didn't reappear, I'll update if it does.

I never tried Ubuntu 14.10 or earlier on that computer.

[Dell Precision M4800] iwlwifi regularly loses connection on Intel
  7260

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
About every 10 minutes my WiFi disconnects and a line like this appears in
syslog:
  Dec 24 11:31:31 work kernel: [ 2721.017478] wlan0: deauthenticated from
10:c6:1f:2c:49:56 (Reason: 7=CLASS3_FRAME_FROM_NONASSOC_STA)

It is accompanied later by such line:
  Dec 24 11:31:46 work NetworkManager[902]: info (wlan0): device state
change: activated - failed (reason 'SSID not found') [100 120 53]

The network disappears from the list and only becomes visible after I
disable and re-enable networking via the network applet.

I don't remember seeing this problem at work where they use Cisco
routers. I see the problem at home with my Speedport 723V Typ A router
(a+b+n mode, WPA2). This may be affected by number of other wifi
networks which are visible here: at least 17 at the moment.

03:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation Wireless 7260
[8086:08b1] (rev 73)
Subsystem: Intel Corporation Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 [8086:4470]

  WORKAROUND: /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf :
  options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1

Drops did not cause loss of my network, and reconnects happened mostly
in the same second. However at some moments there were just too many
  drops.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1332520] Re: backlight bug

2014-08-09 Thread Mathieu Marquer
I do encounter this bug as well on my Smart Ativ 700. To be more specific :
* With Ubuntu 14.04, you could not control the brightness with the keyboard,
but you could do it manually by adjusting the brightness setting in the control
panel
* With Ubuntu 14.10 daily, you can control the brightness, but you can not go
brighter than what the light sensor finds the most effictive. For example, if
I'm in a dark room, I can only turn off the screen, but cannot make the screen
brighter.

Tried with kernel 3..16 final from the PPA above, no improvement.
