[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2045754] Re: [Arc A770] Graphics card driver crash

2023-12-07 Thread Pepijn de Vos
Same thing happened again today, but this time it fully crashed the PC
after a few seconds of flickering.

I'll keep an eye on if it also happens in Arch Linux or Windows.

Title:
[Arc A770] Graphics card driver crash

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I was just browsing the web when the bottom half of the display became black,
the cursor froze, and everything started flickering.
I think eventually KDE crashed and some terminal messages were shown.

I Ctrl+alt+f3 to a terminal and shut down from there.
The terminal was glitchy with random artifacts but visible.

After reboot everything is working again for now.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1996900] Re: [amdgpu] [KDE] Display flashes black

2022-12-01 Thread Pepijn de Vos
Here is the requested log. I reproduced the flashes at 13:20 by hovering
the mouse over a diff on github.com and ran the requested command a few
seconds later. There were many rapid black flashes on the screen, and no
obvious corresponding output, but maybe there is something else
interesting in there.

  [amdgpu] [KDE] Display flashes black

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
During normal usage the display sometimes flashes black. In particular
some websites cause intense flickering with several black frames per
  second.

This actually seems to happen in both Wayland and xorg sessions and
flashes the entire screen, so it seems more like a driver bug but I'm
not sure where to file that.

Title:
System keeps briefly freezing with kernel errors "snd_hda_intel
  :01:00.1: Disabling via vga_switcheroo" and "snd_hda_intel
  :01:00.1: Cannot lock devices!"

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete
Status in linux package in Fedora:

Bug description:
When using Wayland, I observe sub-second freezes a couple of times per minute.
It just freezes the mouse and everything for a split second, and continues as
if nothing happened.
When using Xorg, everything runs smoothly. (hence I did not pick Xorg in
ubuntu-bug)

I suspect this is a GPU issue.
My laptop has a hybrid GPU, and dmesg is filled with vga_switcheroo messages

  [ 2640.943598] snd_hda_intel :01:00.1: Disabling via vga_switcheroo
  [ 2641.243870] snd_hda_intel :01:00.1: Cannot lock devices!
[ 2641.260536] ACPI: \_SB_.PCI0.PEG0.VID_: failed to evaluate _DSM
  [ 2658.996392] snd_hda_intel :01:00.1: Enabling via vga_switcheroo

I tried to manually switch to the dedicated graphics card, and that
completely froze my session.
Now I can't even log in using Wayland anymore, as it straight up crashes and
goes back to the login screen.
  Xorg is still fine...

Now there are other weird messages such as

related to the short freezes)

Title:
System keeps briefly freezing with kernel errors "snd_hda_intel
  :01:00.1: Disabling via vga_switcheroo" and "snd_hda_intel
  :01:00.1: Cannot lock devices!"

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete
Status in linux package in Fedora:
  Unknown

Now there are other weird messages such as
  [ 2777.002437] nouveau :01:00.0: gr: DATA_ERROR 009c [] ch 8

And I suppose these are from the crash that I caused myself (not sure if
related to the short freezes)

Title:
System keeps briefly freezing with kernel errors "snd_hda_intel

  :01:00.1: Cannot lock devices!"

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
When using Wayland, I observe sub-second freezes a couple of times per minute.
It just freezes the mouse and everything for a split second, and continues as

When using Xorg, everything runs smoothly. (hence I did not pick Xorg in
ubuntu-bug)

I suspect this is a GPU issue.
My laptop has a hybrid GPU, and dmesg is filled with vga_switcheroo messages

  [ 2640.943598] snd_hda_intel :01:00.1: Disabling via vga_switcheroo
  [ 2641.243870] snd_hda_intel :01:00.1: Cannot lock devices!
