[Kernel-packages] [Bug 172937] Re: SQUASHFS error while booting from live cd
Update regarding my previous comment: After resetting the VM (in the Hyper-V connection -> "Action" -> "Reset") the VM rebooted, showed the login screen for the first time and I could login. But right after the login the screen was stuck again - there was no menu bar with the program launch icons on the left (a.k.a. "dock"), the bar on the top was empty except for the three indicators in the top right corner (network, sound, power), right click on the background didn't do anything and there was just the time being displayed in the center. Nothing happened for at least 15 minutes. Then after resetting *again* and logging in a second time, finally the typical welcome screen of Ubuntu appeared ("What's new in Ubuntu", the program launch bar on the left etc.) and I could properly use the system. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/172937 Title: SQUASHFS error while booting from live cd Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Status in linux package in Fedora: Won't Fix Status in linux package in Mandriva: Invalid Bug description: Some users have reported being unable to boot from the Ubuntu LiveCD, due to SquasFS errors like this: [ 135.292409] SQUASHFS error: sb_bread failed reading block 0x9d7f3 [ 135.292411] SQUASHFS error: Unable to read fragment cache block [275faa28] [ 135.292413] SQUASHFS error: Unable to read page, block 275faa28, size 23a7 These errors can be due to a variety of reasons: * bad media (solution: try burning the iso image to a new disc) * a bad dvd drive (solution: if possible, try using a different cd/dvd drive) * bad memory modules (solution: use memtest86+ to check your memory) * a corrupted iso image (solution: run an md5 checksum, and if they don't match, download the iso image again) * an optical drive connected via SATA instead of PATA and running in Enhanced mode (solution: change the IDE configuration to "compatible" in the BIOS) This is all described in more detail here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SquashfsErrors To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/172937/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Kernel-packages] [Bug 172937] Re: SQUASHFS error while booting from live cd
I just installed Ubuntu 18.04 in a new Hyper-V VM (host is Windows 10 Pro). Fresh virtual disk (25 GB), 2 virtual CPUs, 4 GB RAM. I used the ISO file to boot and install. The installation went fine until the forced reboot at the end of the installation. After the reboot a lot of these "SQUASHFS error: ..." messages appear: - SQUASHFS error: Unable to read metadata cache entry [...] - SQUASHFS error: read_indexes: reading block [...:...] And at the end the screen is stuck as can be seen in the attached screenshot. ** Attachment added: "2020-01-15 ubuntu vm.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/172937/+attachment/5320576/+files/2020-01-15%20ubuntu%20vm.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/172937 Title: SQUASHFS error while booting from live cd Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Status in linux package in Fedora: Won't Fix Status in linux package in Mandriva: Invalid Bug description: Some users have reported being unable to boot from the Ubuntu LiveCD, due to SquasFS errors like this: [ 135.292409] SQUASHFS error: sb_bread failed reading block 0x9d7f3 [ 135.292411] SQUASHFS error: Unable to read fragment cache block [275faa28] [ 135.292413] SQUASHFS error: Unable to read page, block 275faa28, size 23a7 These errors can be due to a variety of reasons: * bad media (solution: try burning the iso image to a new disc) * a bad dvd drive (solution: if possible, try using a different cd/dvd drive) * bad memory modules (solution: use memtest86+ to check your memory) * a corrupted iso image (solution: run an md5 checksum, and if they don't match, download the iso image again) * an optical drive connected via SATA instead of PATA and running in Enhanced mode (solution: change the IDE configuration to "compatible" in the BIOS) This is all described in more detail here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SquashfsErrors To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/172937/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
