I ran Software Updater yesterday, and it seemed to get hung up. I left it on overnight, and it did not progress. I'm attaching a screenshot of the Software Updater. I will terminate the application and attempt to reboot. ** Attachment added: "Software Updater is locked up while updating Ubuntu" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1802822/+attachment/5213976/+files/Screenshot_2018-11-18_10-22-31.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1802822 Title: package linux-image-4.4.0-112-generic 4.4.0-112.135 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Just booted and logged in. I ran "sudo apt-get install -f" and got a lot of errors (see attachment install-errors.txt). I ran "sudo apt-get clean" and it returned with no message. I ran "sudo apt-get update" and got a lot of errors (see attachment update-errors.txt). I had to create a zip file with the two txt files inside. It seems as if I still had a problem. I ran ""sudo apt-get autoremove" and forgot to redirect output. It took about 45 minutes to complete. I ran "sudo apt-get install -f" and it returned with no error messages. I ran "sudo apt-get clean" and it returned with no message. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1531653] Re: Macbook Pro Retina 11, 1 SD Card Reader Doesn't Work
FWIW, I recently got a new computer and finally took the MBP into Apple to run some diagnostics. The internal hardware diagnostics never found anything wrong. However, when I took it to Apple, they had some more advanced diagnostics that immediately identified a problem with my SD card reader. Interesting that the reader still worked with MacOS. I'm giving the laptop to my son who wants to run MacOS and not Linux, so I won't be able to contribute to this issue anymore. Thanks to those who put effort into it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1531653 Title: Macbook Pro Retina 11,1 SD Card Reader Doesn't Work Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I have a Macbook Pro (MBP) Retina 11,1 with an SD card reader that will not work. Christopher M. Penalver, Regarding the request in comment #7, I don't think I have the skill or patience to go through all that work. This laptop is almost EOL for me anyway. Sorry, if you are only holding this bug open for me to do that work and report back, feel free to close it. I wish I could be more help, but I just don't have the time to mess with this kind of stuff like I used to. All issues reported here seem to be the same regardless if I use 3.13 or 4.2. * Uses the following drivers on my friends MBP: sd, usb-storage, usb, xhci_hcd The last point made me look closer at the xhci_hcd logs: rsyring@loftex:~$ dmesg | grep xhci_hcd [2.681478] xhci_hcd :00:14.0: xHCI Host Controller [2.681498] xhci_hcd :00:14.0: new USB bus registered, assigned bus number 1 [2.681589] xhci_hcd :00:14.0: cache line size of 256 is not supported [2.681607] xhci_hcd :00:14.0: irq 63 for MSI/MSI-X [2.681755] usb usb1: Manufacturer: Linux 3.13.0-57-generic xhci_hcd [2.682098] xhci_hcd :00:14.0: xHCI Host Controller [2.682115] xhci_hcd :00:14.0: new USB bus registered, assigned bus number 2 [2.682219] usb usb2: Manufacturer: Linux 3.13.0-57-generic xhci_hcd [3.980423] usb 2-1: new SuperSpeed USB device number 2 using xhci_hcd [9.352422] xhci_hcd :00:14.0: Timeout while waiting for address device command [ 14.560476] xhci_hcd :00:14.0: Timeout while waiting for address device command [ 20.549170] xhci_hcd :00:14.0: Timeout while waiting for address device command [ 25.757227] xhci_hcd :00:14.0: Timeout while waiting for address device command [ 26.129482] usb 1-1: new high-speed USB device number 2 using xhci_hcd [ 26.321707] usb 1-3: new full-speed USB device number 3 using xhci_hcd [ 26.505802] usb 1-5: new full-speed USB device number 4 using xhci_hcd [ 26.603224] usb 2-1.1: new SuperSpeed USB device number 6 using xhci_hcd [ 26.754245] usb 1-1.2: new low-speed USB device number 5 using xhci_hcd [ 26.954315] usb 1-1.4: new low-speed USB device number 6 using xhci_hcd [ 27.050323] usb 1-3.1: new full-speed USB device number 7 using xhci_hcd [ 27.142383] usb 1-3.2: new full-speed USB device number 8 using xhci_hcd [ 27.234476] usb 1-3.3: new full-speed USB device number 9 using xhci_hcd [ 81.685139] usb 1-1.4: new low-speed USB device number 10 using xhci_hcd The "Timeout while waiting" messages are suspicious to me. dmesg on my friend's MBP does not show those messages. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1531653] Re: Macbook Pro Retina 11, 1 SD Card Reader Doesn't Work
> Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem? This is the first time I've tried using the SD card. So I can't say if any system changes have affected it. However, the fact that my SD card reader doesn't show up when booted into SystemRescueCD, and it does show up when booted into my friends MBP, makes me think it's not a system configuration issue. > Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? I tried, but I'm using a ZFS filestystem for my root. I tried to build but I guess there are issues due to my relying on "out of tree" modules. I'm not familiar enough with building kernels to know how to proceed at this point. If you could point to instructions that would tell me how to use a mainline kernel with my dkms zfs module (so I can boot), I'd be happy to give it a try. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1242321] Re: USB 3.0 Harddrive not recognised
I have been having what seems like this issue with both LaCie and Seagate external drives when connected to USB 3 ports. I just had connections to a server freeze and found this message when I went to the physical display (I can share a low quality image of the full screen if that helps): [309540.436290] BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0...f0 [309540.436313] IP: [] _raw_spin_lock_irq_save+0x1f/0x60 ... The devices are: 1. a Dell laptop that came shipped with Windows that I installed Ubuntu on (not running very well, so I did not think anything of it) 2. a Dell Precision M3800 that came shipped with Ubuntu 14.04 - not sure exact revision when bug presented because I learned never to plug USB drives into USB 3 ports on the laptop, but today it has Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS 3. just now, I caused a kernel panic on a Lenovo ThinkServer that has Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS - at this point I thought I should log this. Additional version info is: Linux version 3.16.0-50-generic (buildd@lgw01-03) (gcc version 4.8.2 (Ubuntu 4.8.2-19ubuntu1) ) #67~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 2 22:07:51 UTC 2015 (Ubuntu 3.16.0-50.67~14.04.1-generic 3.16.7-ckt16) Note: the symptom for #1 and #2 was that plugging a drive into a USB 3 port caused the computer to 'freeze' - not much useful Finally, things work fine with all three computers iff I am careful to use only the USB 2 ports with the LaCie or with the Seagate drives. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1242321 Title: USB 3.0 Harddrive not recognised Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Ubuntu is not recognising any device plugged into any USB 3.0 ports. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 572521] Re: vertical coloured lines on bootup dell inspiron 1501 (still in 13.04)
Hi, I was just searching this topic and found this thread, as I have an Inspiron 1501 and was just having this problem trying to install Linux Mint 15. I tried Ubuntu 13.04 (32bit) live USB, I booted both in 'nomodeset' and 'radeon.modeset=0'. In both cases, it booted to the screen with colored vertical lines. I was able to duplicate the effect of shutting the lid to suspend it, then when I opened and resumed the session the graphics were OK! So that was the standard release, but I will also test the development release you linked to above. Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 910151] Re: Canon PIXMA network printer discovery fails
Sorry so long responding, but just to let you know, I resorted to enabling LAN instead of WLAN on the printer, installed USB cable and successfully installed my Canon Pixma MX860 printer. It seems the only possible bug that exist is the inability of the software to locate on the network the printer in wireless mode. Haven't checked yet to see how this will effect my ability to use the printer in Win 7 but more than likely it will install drivers and be ok. Sorry I couldn't be of any more help. I'm working on my knowledge of command line usage. Thank you for your quick responses and I must say the support appears to me to be incredible. I have been and continue to be very excited about the learning opportunities I appear to have been given since deciding to install Ubuntu. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 910151] Re: Canon PIXMA network printer discovery fails
"CUPS server error" "There was an error during the CUPS operation:'client-error-not-possible'." The above comment is as far as I got after serching and finding the drivers. This printer is attached via wireless through my router. Laptop is connected through the wired LAN. Installed on Win7 Ultimate x64. Dual boot running Ubuntu 13.10 on secondary hard drive. Intel Core i7 CPU Q820@1.73GHzx8 8GiB RAM GeForce GT 230M/ICIe/SSE2 Too new at this to get what's happening. Intuition tells me it at the root level but I lack the knowledge to troubleshoot. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :-) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/910151 Title: Canon PIXMA network printer discovery fails Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I'm sorry if this is redundant, since I have already posted information about it here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/75887/how- do-i-add-a-canon-pixma-mx860-network-printer. I am running Ubuntu Oneiric 11.10 on two computers, one is AMD-64bit architecture, the other i386--same problem on both. In 11.04 I could setup printing and scanning just fine, but after a fresh install of 11.10, adding ppa:michael-gruz/canon, and installing cnijfilter- mx860series version 3.10-2ubuntu4 and scangearmp-common from the PPA, Ubuntu's system-config-printer cannot detect my network printer. In the previous installation it appeared as cnijnet://printers-mac- address. I know it should be able to see it because I can ping the printer at its IP address, I can browse the printer's web admin page from the computer, and my Windows guest in VirtualBox on the computer has no problem detecting and installing it. It seems like this problem is new to Oneiric. I found the following work around. The network printer can be installed if you enter the URI manually. When adding a new printer, select 'EnterURI' from the devices list and enter 'cnijnet:/01-23-45-67-89-AB' where 01-23-45-67-89-AB is the MAC address of the printer. You have to manually select the printer model for the driver, but everything prints as it should. If that doesn't work, follow the manual instructions from http://linux.wikia.com/wiki/Getting_Canon_PIXMA_to_work_on_Linux: $ cnijnetprn --search auto <...Wait for system search...> network cnijnet:/00-1E-8F-B6-E0-1A "Canon MX860 series" "Canon-MX860-series_00-1E-8F-B6-E0-1A" $ locate mx860.ppd /usr/share/cups/model/cnmx860.ppd /usr/share/ppd/cnmx860.ppd $ sudo /usr/sbin/lpadmin -p CanonMX860 -m cnmx860.ppd -v cnijnet:/00-1E-8F-B6-E0-1A -E the '-p' option specifies printer name, the '-m' option specified ppd file, the ppd file for your printer should be included in your binary driver package and at this point should have been installed in /usr/share/ppd, the '-v' option specifies device uri (copy it from cnijnetprn's output). Scanning For scanning, edit /etc/saned/pixma.conf and add the line 'bjnp://10.0.0.20' (the Pixma's IP address). Test to make sure Ubuntu can found it with $ scanimage -L device `pixma:MX860_10.0.0.20' is a CANON Canon PIXMA MX860 multi-Function peripheral You can additionally edit out unnecessary backends (all but pixma) from /etc/sane.d/dll.conf. That should speed the discovery up a bit. For more details, check out 'man sane-pixma'. Although I couldn't find any documentation as to why or how, the Canon network printer discovery protocol doesn't work right in 11.10 as it does in previous versions--perhaps a discovery timeout issue? Still, everything is up and running now, but it would be nice to work out of box in future releases. --- AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24.
