[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1264472] Re: 05ac:12a9 [Medion E7218] Can't pair iPad / iOS7 with Ubuntu via USB

2014-01-05 Thread Stephen Kun
With latest upstream kernel, linux-image-3.13.0-031300rc7, the system
fails to load init, so I'm unable to tell if this bug applies.

The following message appears in the console during the boot:

Starting init: /bin/sh exists but couldn't execute it (error -8)
Kernel panic - not syncing: No working init found.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1264472] Re: 05ac:12a9 [Medion E7218] Can't pair iPad / iOS7 with Ubuntu via USB

2014-01-05 Thread Stephen Kun
Sorry, my mistake - chose the x386 kernel to match my Intel processor. Actually
needed the amd64 kernel.
With the correct kernel, I was able to verify that the bug exists in the latest
upstream kernel.

As requested by Christopher Penalver, I verified that this problem also occurs
with
the Ubuntu version taken from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ on
2nd Jan, 2014. This time the error popup on Ubuntu states:
Unable to mount iPad. Unhandled Lockdown error (-12)

Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1264472] Re: 05ac:12a9 [Medion E7218] Can't pair iPad / iOS7 with Ubuntu via USB

2014-01-02 Thread Stephen Kun
Hi Christopher,

I've verified that the problem still exists in the latest
daily-live/current version.

I still have that version on a USB stick 'A'. In order to test the upstream
kernel, can I do the following:
o Download the kernel image DEB package onto USB stick 'B'
o Boot from stick 'A'
o Install the new kernel from stick 'B'
o Reboot from stick 'A'
o Test connection to iPad

I don't want to get my standard installation messed up (Win7 / Ubuntu12.04
dual boot). I don't understand enough about where the kernel gets installed
and which MBR gets updated.

Can you advise me please?

Thanks
Stephen Kun

Stephen Kun, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. Could you please confirm this issue exists with the latest
development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . If the issue remains,
please just make a comment to this.

If reproducible, could you also please test the latest upstream kernel
available (not the daily folder) following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream
kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If
this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
 kernel-fixed-upstream
 kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
 example:
 kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc6

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon
next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As
 well, please remove the tag:
 needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following
 tags:
 kernel-bug-exists-upstream
 kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
 needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
 understanding.

Do you mean I should install the mainline kernel into my 12.04
installation, then do the test?

I didn't realise that an old 12.04 would work with a really new kernel. If
that's what you meant, then let me know and I will give it a try.

Stephen Kun, thank you for your comments. As a considerable amount of
time would be spent attempting to slipstream the mainline kernel in the
live environment, it would be best to just install the mainline kernel
as previously requested, and you could always boot back into your prior
kernel and delete the new kernel via the instructions previously
 provided.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1264472] [NEW] Can't pair iPad / iOS7 with Ubuntu via USB

2013-12-27 Thread Stephen Kun
Public bug reported:

This is probably the same problem as described in Bug #1215098: iPhone
with iOS 7 does not work on Ubuntu

Here, I am trying to connect my ipad 2 running iOS 7.0.4 to a laptop
running Ubuntu 12.04 via usb.

After connecting the two devices via USB, Ubuntu displays the following message
in a popup:
The device 'Stephens iPad' is locked. Enter the passcode on the device and
click 'Try again'.
A second later on the ipad a modal popup appears saying something like the
following in English:
Trust this computer?
Trust / Don't trust

After clicking 'Trust', a popup appears on Ubuntu:
Unable to mount Stephens iPad
DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a
reply (timeout by message bus)

On the ipad, the modal popup reappears. Clicking 'Trust' again gives the
same result as before.

Title:
Can't pair iPad / iOS7 with Ubuntu via USB

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This is probably the same problem as described in Bug #1215098: iPhone
with iOS 7 does not work on Ubuntu

Here, I am trying to connect my ipad 2 running iOS 7.0.4 to a laptop
  running Ubuntu 12.04 via usb.

After connecting the two devices via USB, Ubuntu displays the following
message in a popup:
The device 'Stephens iPad' is locked. Enter the passcode on the device
and click 'Try again'.
A second later on the ipad a modal popup appears saying something like the
following in English:
  Trust this computer?
  Trust / Don't trust

After clicking 'Trust', a popup appears on Ubuntu:
  Unable to mount Stephens iPad
