apport information ** Attachment added: "RfKill.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2000666/+attachment/5638256/+files/RfKill.txt ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2000666 Title: Joystick recognized as switch controller when it is not Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Hi, I'm trying to use EasySMX-9101 joystick on ubuntu 22.10 with kernel 5.19, but the problem is that this is being recognized as a "switch pro controller". This is the entry that appears from lsusb: ``` Bus 001 Device 002: ID 057e:2009 Nintendo Co., Ltd Switch Pro Controller ```. Searching around on the internet, the driver that can correctly use the aforementioned joystick model is: ``` ID 2f24:0091 GAME FOR WINDOWS 1.02 ```. This is in fact the result I get by adding "hid-nintendo" to the blacklist, managing to use everything correctly. Now, the problem is definitely in the upstream, because I've had the same problem in other systems with recent kernels. And the same in kernel 6.1 was not fixed. --- ProblemType: Bug ApportVersion: 2.23.1-0ubuntu3 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC1: teo2012 F pipewire teo2015 F wireplumber /dev/snd/controlC0: teo2015 F wireplumber /dev/snd/seq:teo2012 F pipewire CRDA: N/A CasperMD5CheckResult: pass CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME DistroRelease: Ubuntu 22.10 InstallationDate: Installed on 2022-12-01 (27 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 22.10 "Kinetic Kudu" - Release amd64 (20221020) Lsusb: Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub Bus 001 Device 003: ID 1462:1563 Micro Star International MysticLight MS-1563 v0001 Bus 001 Device 002: ID 5986:211b Acer, Inc HD Webcam Bus 001 Device 004: ID 8087:0026 Intel Corp. - Now, the problem is definitely in the upstream, because I've had the - same problem in other systems with recent kernels. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1544701] [NEW] [REGRESSION] systematically unable to receive files via bluetooth
Public bug reported: I used to be able to send files over bluetooth from my smartphone to my ubuntu laptop. Then at some point bug 958661 appeared, where the undiscoverable setting for receiving files over bluetooth (which cannot be found under any bluetooth-related setting) was turned off without a reason, and also, at random times Ubuntu would start to reject all transfer despite that setting being turned on - but at least there was the workaround to manually switch the setting off and on which would "fix" the issue. Now after upgrading to 15.10 I am simply UNABLE to send any file via bluetooth from the android phone to the ubuntu laptop. ALL transfers systematically fail. On the phone side, sometimes I get "connectuion failed" and sometimes "transfer rejected on target" (I am quoting the messages by memory, so the wording may not be exact). Something as trivial and vital as transfering files over bluetooth is still broken (and gets more broken at every upgrade) after so many years. This is outrageous. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1353129] Re: [REGRESSION 2014-08] Volume up/down keys, and printScreen key, have stopped working
FIRST Hence, if you are not willing to help debug this at all, how would you expect any developers to want to work on your issue? It is not my issue, it's everybody's issue. I just happen to be somebody who experienced and reported it. I don't expect anything from any developer if by expect we mean think they should or have to. But if by expect we mean merely to regard as probable or likely; anticipate, then given that there are developers who work in improving and fixing Ubuntu, whatever is the reason that moves them to devote their effort to make Ubuntu a better software (something I appreciate and for which I'm infinitely grateful), I do expect them to be interested in fixing a bug regardless of whether the person who reported it is able (or willing) to do any extra work. Because whether or not I do, the bug is there. That's what I would do if somebody reported to me a bug in some piece of software I had written (or which I happened to be maintaining) SECOND by not testing the upstream kernel, you are limiting the developers who are going to look at this to only downstream (Ubuntu) developers. Your are ASSUMING that this is a bug in Linux. I reported it against linux just because I didn't know a way to report it generically (and the ubuntu-bug command doesn't seem to provide a way), but it's not clear at all what package the bug belongs to, so even BEFORE we talk about upstream/downstream, this should be triaged. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1353129 Title: [REGRESSION 2014-08] Volume up/down keys, and printScreen key, have stopped working Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: All of a sudden, the volume keys from the keyboard have stopped working. The volume control on the top right corner of the screen does work if used with the mouse. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1353129] Re: [REGRESSION 2014-08] Volume up/down keys, and printScreen key, have stopped working
I'm not upgrading the BIOS (nonsense requirement) and I'm not testing the mainstream kernel (no time to do that). That should not be a reason for closing the bug. I have reported it and it's as much as I can do. This might not even be in the kernel, I reported it against linux just because I have no idea what package is really responsible. That the OP (in this case me) isn't willing to do additional debugging work doesn't mean the bug should expire, it's not like the person who reports it is the only one affected. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Expired = New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1353129 Title: [REGRESSION 2014-08] Volume up/down keys, and printScreen key, have stopped working Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: All of a sudden, the volume keys from the keyboard have stopped working. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1353129] Re: [REGRESSION 2014-08] Volume up/down keys, and printScreen key, have stopped working
It's no surprise that Ubuntu is still what it is as long as bug reports get managed this way. This issue is intermittent, happens randomly, and is a regression (i.e. has started happening at a certain update, never happened before). Ignoring it just because the reporter doesn't have the latest bios is ridiculous. This is most probably not even in Linux; I chose linux just because I have no idea what package it belongs to, and there's no generic ubuntu package to report bugs against. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1353129 Title: [REGRESSION 2014-08] Volume up/down keys, and printScreen key, have stopped working Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Expired Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: All of a sudden, the volume keys from the keyboard have stopped working. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1353129] Re: [REGRESSION 2014-08] Volume up/down keys, and printScreen key, have stopped working
It's no surprise that Ubuntu is still what it is as long as bug reports get managed this ridiculous way. ** Also affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1353129 Title: [REGRESSION 2014-08] Volume up/down keys, and printScreen key, have stopped working Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Expired Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: All of a sudden, the volume keys from the keyboard have stopped working. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1284308] Re: Bogus another operation in progress error. Can't copy files from a bluetooth device
As usual, importance (after months undecided) gets wrongly assigned https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Bug%20importances If those criteria are not up to date, please update that page. Otherwise try to respect them. This issue meets two of the criteria of High: - Has a severe impact on a small portion of Ubuntu users (estimated) [not being able to copy file among common devices is definitely severe impact] - Renders essential features or functionality of the application or dependencies broken or ineffective [copying files is an essential feature] -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to bluez in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1284308 Title: Bogus another operation in progress error. And as usual, with the upgrade, a whole new bluetooth issue, which this times makes transferring files from the phone to the computer (which already was painful) completely impossible! How I reproduce (100% systematic): 1 - click on the Bluetooth icon in the notification area 2 - from the dropdown menu, choose bluetooth settings 3 - select the phone among the listed devices 4 - click on Browse files 5 - A Nautilus windows opens, allowing me to browse files on the phone. Open the DCIM/Camera folder 6 - Select a couple of files. Either drag and drop them, or copy and then paste them, into a folder on the computer = I systematically get an error, but it can be any of the two variants shown in the two screenshots (one says there was an error copying the file, the other says there was an error getting information about the file; in both cases the given reason is another operation in progress. Note also that in one case there is a Retry button, in the other there is not - pure nonsense). I then ejected the phone with the eject button next to its name in Nautilus, and repeated the whole process. I randomly get any of three outcomes: - the one described above (MOST of the times) - at step 4, I get an error This location could not be displayed. Another operation in progress, so I cannot even browse files or - at some point (not sure whether it was at step 4 above or when ejecting the phone) something CRASHES (I get the usual Ubuntu message informing me of that). [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1353129] Re: [REGRESSION 2014-08] Volume up/down keys, and printScreen key, have stopped working
What needs to happen? That I update the bios? That's definitely not going to happen (what needs to happen is that ubuntu provide a decent way of upgrading bios without relying on booting other OSes). And there's no reason why you should need me to update the bios, when this regression has happened without any change in the bios. On the same bios, everything was working, then the regression appeared. A reboot fixed it, but I guess it may reappear at any time. This policy of ignoring bugs just because they're reported on a bios that has an update available is simply ridiculous, especially when there's no good reason to think that the bios is related (and even if that was the case). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1353129 Title: [REGRESSION 2014-08] Volume up/down keys, and printScreen key, have stopped working Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: All of a sudden, the volume keys from the keyboard have stopped working. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1348422] Re: system frozen after resume from hibernation. Had to power off
I think you missed this part: Now please don't tell me to install a bios update until there's a decent way to install it seamlessly from Ubuntu itself, without relying on freedos, flashrom, creating a windows repair disk and whatnot. If you expect bug victims -pardon- users to install bios updates in order to help you fix bugs, you should provide an easier way to install them. Also, unless you have a strong reason to think that the issue is *caused* (*caused*, not just triggered) by a bug in the bios that has been fixed in the update (which I doubt), then testing it against the bios update should not be a requirement to investigate and fix the issue in Ubuntu. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1348422 Title: system frozen after resume from hibernation. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1328632] Re: whole system can unrecoverably stall just because of a single misbehaving program that eats up too much memory (causing trashing)
Do you really think this may even remotely be related to the bios?!? Or are you going to reject every bug report that is reported with a non- latest bios? I really need to know that, because if it is the latter, then I'll stop wasting my time reporting bugs and trying to make ubuntu better, as I'm obviously not going to update the bios when Ubuntu doesn't provide an easy way to do it and the link yoy point to only provides downloads for windows. It seems to me that it is completely obvious here that the issue is in the way the OS manages memory. Also, the bug should be pretty straight-forward to reproduce on ANY machine, so if you have a machine with the bios updated, you should be able to try yourself by doing the following: - have a multi-gigabyte SVG file - try to open it in eog and see if that reproduces the issue. BTW Note that whether the bug report is incomplete or not, importance low is very wrong. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1328632 Title: whole system can unrecoverably stall just because of a single misbehaving program that eats up too much memory (causing trashing) Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: If a single program starts misbehaving (because of an error) and suddenly eating up a lot of memory, the whole system becomes unresponsive and you won't even be able to open a terminal, or switch to a virtual terminal (ctrl+alt+f1) and kill the offending process. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1250488] Re: [Acer Aspire V3-571G] USB hub stopped working on a given USB port (would work on any other port). Reboot fixed the issue
btw, keeps happening on 14.04. It may happen randomly on any of the two usb ports I use. Once one port dies, I cannot connect the hub on that port (but I can connect a keyboard or mouse directly) so I have to switch ports. After a few suspends and resumes, it may then happen that even the second port dies, meaning the hub won't work connected to that either.
