[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1718227] Re: replacement of ifupdown with netplan needs integration for /etc/network/if{up, down}.d scripts

2021-04-12 Thread Tessa
just tried to use netplan on a public facing server, discovered there's
no `ucarp` integration, and discovered this bug.

is there any ETA on these outstanding items? network HA is a nightmare
without CARP, this feels like essential server functionality.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1246981] Re: Bluetooth devices fail to re-connect after sleep.

2020-10-28 Thread Tessa
Like I mentioned, the kernel drivers seem fine. It appears to be a
userspace software regression, either in bluez or in the gnome
components that call bluez. the adaptor seems dead after resuming from
sleep, until the gnome bluetooth settings panel is opened. this must
call some sort of refresh function, and then everything works fine
again. whatever this function is, it must've been called after resume
previously in 20.04, and isn't being called now in 20.10, hence the
regression.

i don't know anything about bluez or the gnome internals, but i'm happy
to provide whatever logs would be helpful in identifying the root cause
and getting it fixed, since it's making my current desktop usage a
nightmare.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1246981] Re: Bluetooth devices fail to re-connect after sleep.

2020-10-28 Thread Tessa
Well, that's sort of irrelevant for those of us having this problem. I
just checked, and mine is a Broadcom BCM20702A0, so not exactly a niche
vendor. I'm especially concerned since it seems like it's just not
correctly re-scanning for bluetooth devices after waking from sleep due
to some sort of software screw up since the 20.10 update, and there's
nothing wrong with the controller. For those of us who depend on
bluetooth, this is a major regression.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1246981] Re: Bluetooth devices fail to re-connect after sleep.

2020-10-27 Thread Tessa
i just had a bug for 20.10 merged into this one. note that in my case,
this just started happening since upgrading to 20.10, and it happens
with multiple different brands of bluetooth adaptor. as well, if use my
keyboard to open the bluetooth settings panel in gnome, then everything
immediately reconnects as soon as the settings load, so it doesn't
appear to be anything to do with hardware, but instead a bug in terms of
what gnome services do when the system resumes.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1901465] [NEW] bluetooth fails to reconnect after waking from sleep on 20.10

2020-10-25 Thread Tessa
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to 20.10, my mouse either takes an extraordinarily long
time to reconnect (2+m), or it never reconnects until I unplug and
replug my usb bluetooth dongle. It was slow to reconnect on 20.04
(10-30s), but it seems pretty much broken on 20.10.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1896139] [NEW] vsync doesn't work with nvidia binary drivers when running multiple monitors

2020-09-17 Thread Tessa
Public bug reported:

I gather this has been an issue for a long time, but I'm just running
into it now. basically, the nvidia binary drivers, no matter the
version, don't seem to properly handle vsync if you have 2 displays. no
combination of options seems to fix this so that it works correctly,
there's just always massive tearing in games and videos.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1849751] Re: [i915] doesn't boot after 19.10 upgrade

2019-10-29 Thread Tessa
h. further kernel bisecting work has uncovered that I can't get the
video to work properly even with a 19.04 usb key now. so there may be a
hardware failure here at work, I'll need to investigate further. I'll
talk to tech support for my hardware vendor and update this ticket once
I know more.

2019-10-29 Thread Tessa
hmmm ok. testing is proving difficult. I'm running zfs root, and zfs-
dkms won't build on the current 5.4-rc, it does all the config step, but
on build it just says "kernel package linux-
headers-5.4.0-050400rc5-generic is not supported". any suggestions?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1849751] Re: [i915] doesn't boot after 19.10 upgrade

2019-10-26 Thread Tessa
Oh damn, didn't realize nomodeset disables *everything* these days.

in any case, I'm on an optimus laptop with both intel and nvidia, and I
can switch between nvidia only, or optimus (both cards active) mode in
the bios. prior to 19.10, things worked fine. but after 19.10, things
have been an utter mess. no combination of drivers / bios will boot
without nomodeset, period. so something has seriously fucked up the
modeset drivers in this release. and with nomodeset, the only things
that work is straight intel driver in optimus mode, or straight nouveau
in discrete mode. the nv binary drivers do not work no matter what I do.

note that this is consistent when booted off a 19.10 live usb too, so it
does seem to be a pretty major regression since 19.04. as well, when I
can actually at least get a terminal console (which is not possible in
discrete bios mode + nv binary drivers), it seems like gpu-manager is
doing some odd things. even if the nv binary drivers are installed, it
always says something like "desktop system or open drivers, nothing to
do", which is clearly inaccurate.

I'll definitely try some of the newer kernel packages listed here and
get back to you, because my system is a mess right now.

note that since the update I can no longer boot my system at all

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1837366] [NEW] nvidia binary drivers fail to see display in discrete mode

2019-07-22 Thread Tessa
Public bug reported:

I'm having a really weird issue since reinstalling Ubuntu 19.04 the
other day. This is on a system76 laptop with a bios toggle between
nvidia prime mode (intel graphics connected to the display, nvidia card
must be trunked through it) and discrete mode (intel graphics
deactivated, nvidia card connected directly to the display).

I'd reinstalled when the laptop was in prime mode, and that seemed to
work ok. However, I discovered that the nvidia binary driver's vulkan
support doesn't work properly in this configuration, just get black
windows in every vulkan app. So I went and switched my bios to discrete
mode and gdm3 appears, but after login I get dumped to a blank tty
with a stuck cursor.

Did a bunch of digging and discovered gdm3 is starting on nouveau or
some sort of fb driver in wayland, and when X starts it reports that it
can't figure out anything about my laptop display:

162:[ 291.239] (II) NVIDIA(0): Validated MetaModes:
163:[ 291.239] (II) NVIDIA(0): "NULL"

If I uncomment the line in /etc/gdm3/custom.conf which says
"WaylandEnable=false", then gdm3 just hangs at a blank tty the same way
as my user's X session.

If I uninstall the nvidia binary drivers, gdm3 starts but is extremely
slow, my X session seems to work ok with greatly reduced performance.

The weirdest part with the binary drivers installed: if I switch to a
tty, login as root, stop gdm3, start lightdm, lightdm runs x fine... but
then hangs when I try to login. but if I then kill lightdm and start
gdm3 X starts correctly and sees my display, and the Xorg log for my
user shows that it's no longer showing metamodes as null! but as soon as
I reboot, it's all broken again.

So. this feels like something I can't seem to find in the Ubuntu stack
about how things are setup for prime mode that aren't being correctly
reset when I set my laptop to discrete mode, and somehow lightdm resets
them even if it doesn't work properly itself. No idea what I need to do
to make this work properly in discrete mode, but it's a pretty broken
state of affairs right now where I don't have any performant way of
using my video card.

short of fully reinstalling Ubuntu while the laptop is in discrete mode,
do you have any suggestions on how to debug and fix this?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1751671] [NEW] zfs in bionic (0.7.5) is missing encryption support

2018-02-25 Thread Tessa
Public bug reported:

ZFS native encryption support was merged in August of last year, which
means it should be in every ZFSonLinux release since 0.7.2. However, the
latest released ZFS packages in bionic (0.7.5) seem to be missing this
functionality.

# zpool set feature@encryption=enabled pool
cannot set property for 'pool': invalid feature 'encryption'
# dpkg -l | grep zfs
ii libzfs2linux 0.7.5-1ubuntu2
 amd64OpenZFS filesystem library for Linux
ii zfs-zed0.7.5-1ubuntu2
 amd64OpenZFS Event Daemon
ii zfsutils-linux 0.7.5-1ubuntu2
amd64command-line tools to manage OpenZFS filesystems
# zfs get all | grep encryp
[ no results ]

Personally, I consider this pretty important functionality to make sure
is present in 18.04, so I hope there's time to get it fixed before then.

Just tested with 4.10.0-35-generic that got installed, and it appears to
