[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1878946] Re: Cannot install proprietary NVIDIA driver
This bug is not limited to just Kubuntu. I am chiming in as a Xubuntu 20.04.2 user. The driver I attempt to install from Driver Manager is 340.108. The results are identical to what is being reported here. And this bug affects ALL of my machines running v20.04. My Asus laptop with hybrid Nvidia GT218, my desktop with PNY GeForce 210, my i7 desktop with GT750, and others. So please count this as three reports, not just one. The only common denominator is v20.04 of the Ubuntu base OS. And FWIW, I am not a fan of Mint but it does not suffer from this bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-440 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1878946 Title: Cannot install proprietary NVIDIA driver Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers-440 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: 1) Distro: Kubuntu 20.04 2) Package version: nvidia-driver-440 version "440.82+really.440.64-0ubuntu6" I have started the driver management from system settings, selected "Using NVIDIA driver metapackage from nvidia-driver-440 (proprietary, tested). 3) What I expected to happen: The proprietary driver should be installed. The additional drivers selector still shows "Using X.ORg X server - Nouveau display driver from xserver-xorg-nouveau (open source)", although this package is NOT installed. Checking with muon, it shows that some nvidia 440 related packages have been installed, but nvidia-driver-440 is shown with status 'corrupt' ('Defekt' in German). The packages libnvidia-ifr1-440 and libnvidia-ifr1-440 are also shown with status 'corrupt'. Discover offers 'libnvidia-gl-440 version 440.82+really.440.64-0ubuntu6', but that cannot be installed. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1745828] Re: [rtl8821a] Ubuntu 16.04 can't find any Bluetooth devices
Not sure if this is the same problem. Everything was working perfectly until the massive update that came out last night. Now cannot find internal Atheros BT adapter in Blueman-applet. It appears to allow me to enable BT. Lights on but no one home. Linux firmware looks borked. user@UX32VD:~$ rfkill list 0: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 1: hci0: Bluetooth Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 2: asus-wlan: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 3: asus-bluetooth: Bluetooth Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no user@UX32VD:~$ dmesg | grep Blue [2.999406] Bluetooth: Core ver 2.21 [2.999422] Bluetooth: HCI device and connection manager initialized [2.999425] Bluetooth: HCI socket layer initialized [2.999428] Bluetooth: L2CAP socket layer initialized [2.999434] Bluetooth: SCO socket layer initialized [3.020951] Bluetooth: hci0: don't support firmware rome 0x1102 [3.028458] Bluetooth: hci0: don't support firmware rome 0x1102 [4.600699] Bluetooth: BNEP (Ethernet Emulation) ver 1.3 [4.600704] Bluetooth: BNEP filters: protocol multicast [4.600709] Bluetooth: BNEP socket layer initialized user@UX32VD:~$ lspci -knn | grep Net -A2; lsusb 03:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Qualcomm Atheros AR9462 Wireless Network Adapter [168c:0034] (rev 01) Subsystem: Bigfoot Networks, Inc. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1510660] Re: Screen icons and text corrupted after 15.10 upgrade
I had this problem as well, starting with the welcome screens during the install. I believe it is something wrong in the Xorg video driver. My video card is a Maxwell based nVidia GTX 750 Ti. Despite the menus being almost completely illegible, I was able to navigate to the Settings Manager / Additional Drivers and install the nVidia proprietary driver 352.63. Xorg driver is to blame. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1510660 Title: Screen icons and text corrupted after 15.10 upgrade Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Since upgrading to 15.10 I am having trouble with most of the desktop and other icons and some text. The problem seems to be that the screen painting lines are out of synch. This means that most of the icons on the desktop are almost unreadable and spread laterally. Also PDF documents are unreadable. The raster graphics that I have imported into Inkscape are unusable. I am using a Dell Vostro 220 and Dell screens. The affect is the same whether I use a wide screen or a more conventional profile.
