[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2074238] [NEW] Missing U.2 MVMe drives on Ubuntu 22.04 with disabled SR-IOV in the BIOS
Public bug reported: This is a configuration issue rather than an OS kernel or BIOS firmware bug. Although, the symptom manifest only on Ubuntu OS (other Linux OSes such as RHEL does NOT have this issue) with a disabled SR-IOV at the AMD server's BIOS. Also, only AMD servers with GPU that are affected by this issue. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2074238 Title: Missing U.2 MVMe drives on Ubuntu 22.04 with disabled SR-IOV in the BIOS Status in linux package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: This is a configuration issue rather than an OS kernel or BIOS firmware bug. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 2074238] Re: Missing U.2 MVMe drives on Ubuntu 22.04 with disabled SR-IOV in the BIOS
Workaround: After SR-IOV was enabled in the BIOS, all U.2 NVMe drives are detectable by the OS kernel -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2074238 Title: Missing U.2 MVMe drives on Ubuntu 22.04 with disabled SR-IOV in the BIOS Status in linux package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: This is a configuration issue rather than an OS kernel or BIOS firmware bug. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 2038237] Re: VGA console displays black screen when installing Ubuntu 22.04 in UEFI mode
Update to this issue: The workaround is to enable the SR-IOV in the BIOS. But we are still investigating this issue since the problem does not manifest in RHEL or CentOS either in UEFI or Legacy mode. If there's someone who can explain what goin on, we really appreciate it. Thanks -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2038237 Title: VGA console displays black screen when installing Ubuntu 22.04 in UEFI mode Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: When installing Ubuntu 22.04 via local USB or thru remote Virtual Media in UEFI mode, the VGA console display will displays black screen after "Enter" key is pressed to install Ubuntu OS server from grub menu. In Legacy/BIOS mode, everything works normal as expected. Here are the steps to reproduce: 1. Install fresh Ubuntu 22.04LTS server edition (or even 20.04LTS server edition) on AMD (4th Gen EPYC) system that has NVidia H100 GPU over an Ubuntu bootable USB stick or thru Virtual Media mapped to an ISO image on a remote file server 2. When the Ubuntu installer menu appears, press the keyboard Enter key, then the monitor will goes to black screen Actual results: The monitor screen will stay in black screen once installation of Ubuntu 22.04 has started after pressing the enter key on the grub menu. Expected results: The VGA monitor should display normally as expected during imnstallation and the server will bootup with the OS installed successfully. Additional info: - The symptom does not manifest under BIOS legacy mode. Installation works fine with no problem. - The symptom does not appear If H100 GPU is removed from the server - The issue is only evident in AMD server with GPU and there's no problem with Intel based GPU server - Tried adding nomodeset in the kernel bot parameter, but problem persist - Tried kernel 5.15.0-83-generic and 6.2.0-33-generic as mentioned in the bug report #1968519 on 2022-04-11, problem remains To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2038237/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
