[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1968391] Re: Unreliable wifi with loads of CTRL-EVENT-BEACON-LOSS

2023-03-24 Thread clayg
so i was doing pretty good on a different eero router mesh, and I moved
and i'm on a spectrum router now. The problem came back, even with a
5.19.17-051917-generic kernel.

Mar 24 12:26:56 banana wpa_supplicant[1132]: wlp4s0: CTRL-EVENT-BEACON-LOSS

Mar 24 13:04:23 banana wpa_supplicant[1132]: wlp4s0: CTRL-EVENT-BEACON-LOSS

I have to assume one possibility is the new router is not great, or
something about channel interference?

Title:
Unreliable wifi with loads of CTRL-EVENT-BEACON-LOSS

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Using the current beta of Jammy, I no longer have stable WiFi after
April 5, 2022 update of wpasupplicant from 2:2.10-2 to 2:2.10-6. There
is a chance it may also be related to network-manager going from
1.36.4-1ubuntu1 to 1.36.4-2ubuntu1, but the logs seems to point to
  wpasupplicant (see below)

Wifi is stable often, but also often it fails to load webpages
intermittently or fails to download the packages using apt for
example, so it's not browser related.

Example output of journalctl -xe -u wpasupplicant:

but I'm thinking about going back to the newer kernel

  Wifi randomly disconnects [AR9462]

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:

I was runing Ubuntu 20.10, 21.04 up to Ubuntu 21.10 with Ubuntu Kernel 5.13.0
without any problem.
When migrated to Ubuntu 22.04 which installs Ubuntu Kernel 5.15.0.x (which
corresponds to Mainline Kernel 5.15.5) then the problems started.

The Mainline Kernel 5.15.4 corresponds to the Ubuntu Kernel 5.15.0-12.12
(date 2021-11-21 13:32:06)
The Mainline Kernel 5.15.5 corresponds to the Ubuntu Kernel 5.15.0-13.13
(date 2021-11-25 09:35:53)

I upgraded and tested unsuccessfully the following Mainline Kernels :
  5.15.28, 5.15.36, 5.16.14, 5.16.20, 5.17.4, 5.17.5

I disabled the power save as explained at
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1403773/22-04-wifi-keeps-disconnecting-for-a-few-seconds-frequently/1404471#1404471
without improvement in any of the Kernels tested.
  Also the "intel_iommu=off" mentioned at
https://groups.google.com/g/linux.debian.kernel/c/RFpPIp0cncA/m/v9ELDxLICgAJ
Bug#994590 didn't help.

I downgraded and currently running without any problem using the
Ubuntu Kernels 5.13.19-051319-generic or Mainline Kernels 5.15.0 or
  5.15.4

There is no problem in my airpoint (router) nor my internet access, I have
other different computers and devices working correctly on wifi.
In addition my N751JK works correctly when using the Ethernet adapter for the
physical cable.

seems to be something between Mainline Kernels 5.15.4 and 5.15.5 that
is also propagated to 5.16.x and 5.17.x

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1970965] Re: Wifi randomly disconnects [AR9462]

2023-03-13 Thread clayg
I moved and noticed this problem went away with a different router
(SAX1V1K) even on the older kernel.

The other network was a eero mesh - so there was like two WAP devices
that I guess are same SSID or something, and maybe it was bouncing back
and forth between them (poorly?). I don't know if other devices in the
house had the problem, using the newer kernel seemed to help so I had
assumed it was something weird about the hardware in my IBM x1 5th gen
thinkpad, but maybe it's just hard to get mesh networking right and I
was just sensitive to the interruptions on my work laptop.

I believe this lp issue is related to another issue #1968391

For me the problem did I was seeing with wifi disconnects did NOT go
away when I installed 5.17.11, but my wifi is running stable for >24
hours with an *older* kernel:

April 5, 2022 update of wpasupplicant from 2:2.10-2 to 2:2.10-6. There
is a chance it may also be related to network-manager going from
1.36.4-1ubuntu1 to 1.36.4-2ubuntu1, but the logs seems to point to
  wpasupplicant (see below)

Wifi is stable often, but also often it fails to load webpages
intermittently or fails to download the packages using apt for
example, so it's not browser related.

Example output of journalctl -xe -u wpasupplicant:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1968391] Re: Unreliable wifi with loads of CTRL-EVENT-BEACON-LOSS

2022-08-24 Thread clayg
FML, it's still happening - what even *is* a "beacon-loss' event? Is
there any situation where getting reconnected every few minutes would
ever even make sense?!

I couldn't find 5.15.0-23-generic so I used 5.15.0

root@banana:~# uname -a

I swear this hardware used to work fine on focal. I'll try put back the
BSSID and power save mode too - i'm not sure what else to try.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1968391] Re: Unreliable wifi with loads of CTRL-EVENT-BEACON-LOSS

2022-08-24 Thread clayg
I found https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1970965
looking into a similar issue described here and I'm still having this
same "CTRL-EVENT-BEACON-LOSS frequent reconnect" problem with wifi
adapter after upgrading to jammy even tho my iwlist scan always shows
strong signal (Quality=50/70 Signal level=-60 dBm).

I have an ibm thinkpad:

clayg@banana:~$ sudo lspci | grep -i wireless
04:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless 8265 / 8275 (rev 88)

According to the other thread I tried going to a *newer* generic kernel
and I'm still having problems:

root@banana:~# uname -a
Linux banana 5.17.11-051711-generic #202205251331 SMP PREEMPT Wed May 25
13:57:33 UTC 2022 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Based on this thread I'll try going down to 5.15.0-23-generic (since I
think I *was* running 5.15.0-46-generic originally after upgrade?)

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1722478] Re: Two-finger scrolling and click-and-drag no longer works after resuming from suspend

2019-12-06 Thread clayg
After a reboot applied an automatic system update I applied today to my
18.04.3 LTS IBM ThinkPad X1 Carbon my mouse wasn't working!

Some comments in scripts I'd left around helped me found my way back to
this bug and ...

modprobe -r i2c-i801

... fixed the immediate issue.

But I saw the "scroll doesn't work after suspend" issue again.

Right now I've un-commented the i2c_i801 in
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf and I also feel like I had to REadd
psmouse.synaptics_intertouch=0 in /etc/default/grub - could that have
gotten overwritten on an upgrade?
