2014-09-15 Thread Justin Cook
Tried the following several times which did not work:

sudo apt-get install -f
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update

Then re-install the package.

What did work was:

cd /var/cache/apt/archives/
sudo dpkg -i --force-overwrite
linux-image-3.5.0-51-generic_3.5.0-51.77~precise1_i386.deb

As James D suggested. Worked for me.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1366248] Re: [Intel D54250WYK] Wireless Dropped Connection Intel 7260.HMWG

2014-09-10 Thread Justin Evans
I upgraded the wireless drivers for my router and the problem went away
(2+ days uptime now). Still perplexing why it was re-introduced in the
first place, and even more perplexing why wireless drivers on my router
would fix it.

Anyway, it seems like the root cause for the re-introduction of this bug
may be extremely difficult to hunt down. Unless you would like me to
try a few different scenarios for troubleshooting purposes on your end,
I'm comfortable with closing this issue.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1366248] Re: [Intel D54250WYK] Wireless Dropped Connection Intel 7260.HMWG

2014-09-08 Thread Justin Evans
I upgraded the BIOS to latest per suggestion, and the connection is
still dropping and periodically asking to re-input my wireless password
(initial behavior from initial bug).

Output from sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-
release-date:

WYLPT10H.86A.0028.2014.0814.1906
08/14/2014

I'm not sure why an upgrade would have mattered either. It was
surprising to run into this bug again, and that update/upgrade was the
only thing I did with the system week-to-week when it returned.

2014-09-05 Thread Justin Evans
I should also make it clear that I'm up-to-date on dist-upgrades, but
the latest dist release did not cause the problem. The problem was
introduced in a simple apt-get update/upgrade cycle since the last dist
release.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1366248] [NEW] Re-emergence of Bug 1315055 (Intel 7260.HMWG Wireless Dropped Connection)

2014-09-05 Thread Justin Evans

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1265544] Re: 8086:0a16 [UX302LG] black screen on boot 3.12.0-7

2014-08-12 Thread Justin Penka
I have tried running the 3.15 utopic kernel with 14.04. The system boots
up fine, however, i'm still getting the black screen on grub. The only
option I added was 'nomodeset'. Is anyone else experiencing this, or did
you all move 14.10?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1315055] Re: 8086:08b1 (rev 73) [Intel D54250WYK] Intel Wireless 7260.HMWG Constant Dropped Connection

2014-07-29 Thread Justin Evans
Hi Seth - thanks for following up. This issue was fixed for me in
mainline kernel v3.15-rc3-utopic back in May. After a few weeks on that
kernel, I went back to official kernel and the connection has been rock
solid ever since.

I've been performing upgrade dist-upgrade weekly since late May and
have yet to experience this issue again!

FWIW, while this particular issue was fixed (Wireless dropping
connection), my Intel 7260 card also has integrated bluetooth, which
appears to be failing periodicially.

My dmesg is littered with these (usb 2-4 is the 7260 card / Bluetooth):

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1315055] Re: 8086:08b1 [Intel D54250WYK] Intel Wireless 7260.HMWG Constant Dropped Connection

2014-05-02 Thread Justin Evans
I tested with v3.15-rc3-utopic. It appears that this bug has been fixed
in this upstream branch. I will update the tags.

Now that I have a mainline kernel sitting alongside the stock 14.04
kernel, what should I do moving forward? In other words, when can I
expect this fix to be pushed to Ubuntu master, (and how will I know when
this happens), so I can remove the mainline kernel and revert to
'stock'?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1305305] Re: 8086:08b1 [Sony VAIO SVP1321M2E] Wifi keeps dropping.

2014-04-30 Thread Justin Evans
I'm having the exact same issue on an Intel NUC.

Intel NUC D54250WYK w/ Intel 7260.HMWG on Ubuntu 14.04 - Constant
dropped connections.

I also can't seem to lock onto a 5GHz signal, but that's probably
another issue altogether.

Using a Sony Vaio Pro 13 with Ubuntu 14.04 the wifi keeps dropping. Sometimes
all the time, at times after a bit longer (~10 min). A few packages ago it
didn't drop, but was really, really, slow. Now it completely drops. Adding the
following to modprobe.conf made no change:
  options iwlwifi 11ac_disable=1
  options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1

After each new row I ran:
  sudo modprobe -rfv iwlwifi
  sudo modprobe -v iwlwifi

Tried turning off the power management of wlan0 without any change.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1286552] Re: No wifi after suspend

2014-04-25 Thread justin parker
Hey Guys Try this work around, It's the only one that worked on my
Toshiba NB505 With realtek drivers...

Settings security privacy Uncheck waking from Suspend Returning
From blank screen

Delete the entire contents of the following files
/etc/pm/config.d/config /etc/pm/config.d/unload_modules

gksu gedit /etc/pm/config.d/config
gksu gedit /etc/pm/config.d/unload_modules

Try a suspend and it should come back That said you might want to
look around for more edited files in /etc/pm/config.d/

Having said all that I have no Idea why that works. lol

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1286552] Re: No wifi after suspend

2014-04-25 Thread justin parker
I mean turning off the security. That is to say have no password when
logging in after suspend.

Settings security privacy Uncheck waking from Suspend Returning
From blank screen

I think the super user permission are getting screwy somewhere. It's
worth a shot nico. If it doesn't work nothing lost except time. After
all its just a workaround.

Obviously a different issue since nmcli would be stuck in sleep if it
worked for you. Why post that here if we've tried it already?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1286552] Re: No wifi after suspend

2014-04-23 Thread justin parker
Tried editing /etc/pm/config.d/config
/etc/pm/config.d/unload_modules like the
http://www.webupd8.org/2013/01/fix-wireless-or-wired-network-not.html
. Same issue after editing:

SUSPEND_MODULES=$SUSPEND_MODULES rtl8192ce
SUSPEND_MODULES=$SUSPEND_MODULES r8169
SUSPEND_MODULES=$SUSPEND_MODULES rtlwifi

Adding lshw -C network and nmcli nm

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1286552] Re: No wifi after suspend

2014-04-22 Thread justin parker
So the solution is to not use the default programs that Ubuntu
considered it's default? Maybe we should switch to another distro or
tell people to go back to Windows. Windows would at least have a dev or
cs rep tell you something not just ignore you and pretend they don't see
it.

This is precisely why this bug has been around for at least 3 years. Not
only is splintered into countless duplicates under multiple problems
each developer points at the other developer and says oh, its his

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1240143] Re: NFS client reports a 'readdir loop' with a corrupt name

2014-01-06 Thread Justin Fletcher
Kernel bug remains. Realised that jsalisbury had said that I should mark
it as confirmed, and I hadn't.

Since the corrupted names are never displayed in an 'ls' of the
directory (even whilst the problem is occurring), I assume that this
is a presentation problem in the warning message.

Unfortunately the problem had gone away by the time I tried using
tcpdump to capture the on-the-wire data.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1247189] Re: [13.10] Ubuntu freezes completely when switching user

2013-12-30 Thread Justin Solms
Dear all.

I have the same problem after upgrading from 13.04. Only now I use
ubuntu 13.10 GNOME running GDM.

[Although I had the same problem when I tried unity with lightdm -
History: I was so frustrated I tried Unity (32 64 bit) and now Gnome
all with the same results.]

Ubuntu Gnome 13.10 32-bit.
NVIDIA Corporation GT218M (NVS 3100M/PCIe/SSE2)
3.8.0-34-generic
GDM 3.8.4

I switch user. I have the new user session. I then alt-ctl-f7. I then
have a frozen background-artwork-only graphic screen for the 1st user
session. No alt-ctl-f1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and so on. I have not yet tested if
I am able to ssh into the machine after it hangs.

Please advise of any additional info or tasks needed. I am currently
away on leave but shall be able to attend to instructions from you re
this matter from 2nd last week Jan'14 onward.

This really affects me allot as I have seperate business and home user
id's and switched allot in 13.04.

Kind regards,
Justin

2013-10-16 Thread Justin Fletcher
Missing log files were intentional; these are company systems and I am
not allowed by policy to upload arbitrary files without review.

Testing to follow, but as the problem is sporadic, I'm not sure that we
can say categorically that it is a fixed or not.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 902557] Re: 10ec:8176 Wireless not working in 12.04 for rtl8192ce (RTL8188CE)

2013-08-23 Thread Justin J Stark
I can confirm a stable connection on 3.2.0-52 with no reason or deauth
messages in dmesg.

justin@willie:~$ lspci | grep Realtek -i

802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter (rev 01)
justin@willie:~$ uname -a

justin@willie:~$ dmesg | grep reason -i
justin@willie:~$ dmesg | grep deauth -i
justin@willie:~$ ls /lib/firmware/rtlwifi
rtl8192cfw.bin rtl8192defw.bin rtl8712u.bin rtl8723fw.bin
rtl8192cufw.bin rtl8192sefw.bin rtl8723fw_B.bin
justin@willie:~$ lsmod | grep rtl -i
rtl8192ce 84872 0
rtl8192c_common75767 1 rtl8192ce
rtlwifi 111269 1 rtl8192ce

cfg80211 205774 2 rtlwifi,mac80211

Let me know if there is any other information I can provide that would
be helpful.

Title:
  10ec:8176 Wireless not working in 12.04 for rtl8192ce (RTL8188CE)

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in “linux” source package in Precise:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Wireless no longer seems to work since I upgraded to Precise, it was working
(albeit very flaky) ion 11.10, but it never seems to be able to connect to any
access points since the upgrade.
It can see all the available networks, but it can't seem to connect to any of
them.
