Title:
mounted samba shares unavailable after suspend

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
I have noticed this happen every time I open my laptop running 9.04
  that has been suspended.

If before suspend, I open a network share (that is actually a Samba
share on another Ubuntu machine (8.04) and then allow the machine to
go into suspend (by closing the lid) and then open the lid again
sometime later, after the machine is running again, I can no longer
access the shared folder (either via the icon on the desktop or via
  Nautilus).

I get an error saying: Could not display X. The file is of an
  unknown type.

Then if I try to browse any of my Samba network shares, I more often
than not get no results. If I click on Places>Network, I get to see
Windows Network, but if I click on that, I get an empty blank nautilus
window. If I then click back, I can then go one further, so I can
click through Places>Network>Windows Networks> MSHome, but then it is
blank. Then if I click back all the way, then I try again, then I can
go one further again, so Place>Network>Windows Network>MSHome>Server,
but then it is blank. This continues until I can finally get to the
  folders and everything is ok.

If I shutdown instead of hibernate and then restart, this problem
  never occurs

I am using a wireless connection, but I wait until I get the Connected
notification before I do anything, so I definatley have network
  connection.

The logs dont seem to show anything relevant, but I may be wrong.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1509664] Re: Samba shares unavailable after suspend

2015-10-27 Thread rpgmaker
A noob question, is there any chance that installing this kernel
manually will break my current installation or will I ever have my old
kernel available to boot from it? I ask because I don't really mess much
with kernel installations other than official updates, which sometimes
leave me with more than one kernel to boot from but I don't know if this
will be the case installing the kernel you mentioned.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1509664] [NEW] Samba shares unavailable after suspend

2015-10-24 Thread rpgmaker
Public bug reported:

I have noticed that after I suspend my laptop and wake it up again the
samba shares aren't available, sometimes they may be available after an
unespecific long time but most times, when I really need to access the
shares, I just restart the laptop and the shares are then made available
again. The samba server is a NAS that is on at all times. I'm on ubuntu
14.04 on a Dell Inspiron 14z n411z.

What I do sometimes to accelerate the process of the shares appearing is
to kill and start again the filemanager. It doesn't always works or it
may just give me the ilusion of working but the results aren't
deterministic (sometimes after executing 'nemo -q' several times the
shares may appear again but maybe they were going to appear anyways
without issuing the command). This is a really annoying bug.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1280394] Re: 8086:0116 [Dell Inspiron 14z (N411z)] Display brightness keys do not work on kernels 3.11 and 3.13

2014-09-01 Thread rpgmaker
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1229591 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1229591

@madvinegar: No, I don't know how to do that.

I can still experience the issue on 14.04.1 which is just crazy. I'm on
13.04 trying to avoid losing this functionality but now they took all
the repositories offline because its support life cycle ended. It would
seem that 14.04 support was the one that ended though given how this
hasn't even been looked at (along with many others bug reports).

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Brightness keys Fn+F4 and Fn+F5 (decrease and increase brightness) do not
work on 13.10 and 14.04.
On 12.04 (up to 12.04.3) and 13.04 worked ok.
That is, up to ubuntu repository kernel 3.8 the brightness keys worked ok.

On ubuntu repository kernels 3.11 and 3.13, the brightness keys do not
work. (this includes 12.04.4 that has kernel 3.11).

I currently have installed 14.04 with kernel 3.13.0-8.

However, brightness can be adjusted just fine by going to system settings
Brightness Control and moving the slider back and forth.
So the problem is specific only to the function keys.

2014-05-26 Thread rpgmaker
I also suffer from this bug. I have used 12.10 for the past year and
upgraded to 14.04 but aside from the fact that it seemed generally buggy
this did not work. Going over all the versions between 12.10 and 14.04
revealed that 13.04 is the only one where the brightness keys still
work. After that they don't work on any other release. I did a lot of
experimenting with grub parameters and what not to no avail.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1280394] Re: 8086:0116 [Dell Inspiron 14z (N411z)] Display brightness keys do not work on kernels 3.11 and 3.13

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1229591 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1229591

I can confirm this on both releases mentioned in this bug report. I have
the exact same machine and everything worked PERFECTLY on 12.10.

Title:
8086:0116 [Dell Inspiron 14z (N411z)] Display brightness keys do not
work on kernels 3.11 and 3.13

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
