Bug description:
My system is a Dell Vostro 1320 on which I installed the Broadcom wireless
network driver after I had installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. I received this error
when I tried to install the "flashplugin-installer" from the Synaptic Package
Manager.
I also tried to run the Flash Player Install from the Adobe web page and
that also failed. I selected the "APT for Ubuntu 9.04+" and then pressed the
"Agree and Install Now" button.

I expected the Flash player to be installed as a plugin for Firefox
  but it fails to complete.

Not sure if its related, but after a reboot I now have no sound. aplay
-l reports no soundcard found, when it worked fine before.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1268365] Re: [Lenovo Thinkpad t440s] Touchpad periodically stops working

2014-02-06 Thread Jon Vaughan
Thanks for the last two comments - I got in touch with Jeroen who posted
the spinics forum post, and he said that the best way to confirm the
problem was to either boot into Windows 8 safe mode or boot Windows 7
from USB and see what happened there.

Under Windows 8 safe mode there was no perceptible problem but as soon
as I booted Windows 7 it was clear that there was an issue, and the
cursor set off uncontrollably after a few seconds use.

I called Lenovo and yesterday they fitted a new keyboard bezel (which
contains a new trackpad) and over a few hours use yesterday I have had
no further lost sync messages. This was definitely a hardware issue
and I'd like to thank everyone for their help in sorting it out.

[Lenovo Thinkpad t440s] Touchpad periodically stops working

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Every 15 minutes or so, the cursor stops reacting to input from the touchpad
or trackpoint. Unfortunately this machine has a clickpad instead of separate
buttons and so it is impossible to use the machine without the touchpad, which
means that Ubuntu is virtually unusable. In Windows on the same machine there
is no problem. In syslog you see:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 896922] Re: Lenovo L520 - psmouse.c: touchpad at isa0060/serio4/input0 lost sync and stops working for seconds

2014-01-12 Thread Jon Vaughan
Although I await Mathias's reply, this is absolutely a current problem
for me on a recently purchased Thinkpad t440s with:

uname -a:
Linux mv8 3.11.0-15-generic #23-Ubuntu SMP Mon Dec 9 18:17:04 UTC 2013 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

What is it about the latest dev release / kernel that you believe will
fix this?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1268365] [NEW] Thinkpad t440s touchpad / trackpoint periodically stop working

2014-01-12 Thread Jon Vaughan
Public bug reported:

Every 15 minutes or so, the cursor stops reacting to input from the
touchpad or trackpoint. Unfortunately this machine has a clickpad
instead of separate buttons and so it is impossible to use the machine
without the touchpad, which means that Ubuntu is virtually unusable. In
Windows on the same machine there is no problem.

OS: Ubuntu 13.10
Release:13.10 (All updates applied)

Title:
Thinkpad t440s touchpad / trackpoint periodically stop working

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Every 15 minutes or so, the cursor stops reacting to input from the
touchpad or trackpoint. Unfortunately this machine has a clickpad
instead of separate buttons and so it is impossible to use the machine

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 896922] Re: Lenovo L520 - psmouse.c: touchpad at isa0060/serio4/input0 lost sync and stops working for seconds

2014-01-12 Thread Jon Vaughan
Christopher, I have raised
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1268365

However this bug (896922) was originally created by Matthias after he
was told do do so in similar circumstances on
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/773433, a bug which
is now marked as Expired. I respect that you want to distinguish
specific individual circumstances but this is a severe problem (I have
had to restart psmouse twice while writing this) and creating separate
unlinked bugs dilutes the impact, and presumably reduces the chances of
it being looked at. From a quick google I found also these which look
like exactly the same issue:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1165089 (raised 5/4/2013,
also marked as Expired) and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/1198274
(raised 5/7/2013, which you have put a similar comment on)
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/1261133
(raised 15/12/2013, which you have put a similar comment on)

Could we perhaps nominate one of these to be the the master issue and
mark it with an appropriate severity, and mark the others all as
duplicates?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1268365] Re: [Lenovo Thinkpad t440s] Touchpad periodically stops working

2014-01-12 Thread Jon Vaughan
That is an excellent spot, and I apologise - I had recently updated the
bios using the lenovo updater utility but it doesn't see this version.

So I am now:

jon@mv8:~$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s
bios-release-dateGJET67WW (2.17 )
12/10/2013
jon@mv8:~$ date

However the problem is still happening:
