Public bug reported:

Install via LiveUSB created with unetbootin off the saucy amd64 iso was
able to be completed with "nomodeset".

First boot into installed system resulted in lightdm "cowbell" being
played but a backlight on / blank screen on the display.

using nomodeset on installed system results in framebuffer/console being
usable - but no X able to start (cannot find screen).

tried some alternative kernel options : acpi_backlight=vendor,
video=1920x1080-24@60

but with same results.

Tried using different kernel as per bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1195483

pinned and upgraded to trusty kernel images - slightly different result
in that backlight goes down and breifly have a red screen tear in upper
left of screen for several seconds before reverting to same behaviour as
saucy kernel. (blanked screen, backlit, lightdm cowbell plays).
