[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1322789] Re: [Toshiba Satellite L845-SP4105LA] laptop fans malfunction in Ubuntu 14.04
@Federico: I tried the method you sent, and my machine seems to work perfectly now! I used since the modifications were made, and in the entire day the temperature never was more than 58~60° C. Great!!! @Christopher: First of all, thank *a lot* for all the time and effort following this issue. Is ok to file a bug control case for this considering that is solved using tools that are included in Ubuntu 14.04? Maybe there is some other method to follow, just to let the installer understand that for this kind of machines, the best is to install thermald, and add some configuration parameters to Grub, what do you think about this? Thanks everybody! HeCSa: >"I have to add "Target to Release" to see if this patch can or cannot be >included in a future patchset, right?" I should have mentioned the next step is to fully reverse commit bisect the kernel in order to identify the fix commit following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#How_do_I_reverse_bisect_the_upstream_kernel.3F . Once identified, inclusion of the commit in prior releases would then be evaluated. Federico Urtizberea, thank you for your comment. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1322789] Re: [Toshiba Satellite L845-SP4105LA] laptop fans malfunction in Ubuntu 14.04
Yesterday everything seemed to work properly, but today again the fans began to malfunction. I followed the steps in this post http://www.webupd8.org/2014/04/prevent-your-laptop-from-overheating.html to activate the drivers instead of intel_pstate acpi_cpufreq, and now everything seems to work fine. Restart the sitema a couple of times, and the fans do not spin out of control. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1322789 Title: [Toshiba Satellite L845-SP4105LA] laptop fans malfunction in Ubuntu 14.04 Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Hi, When booting into Ubuntu 14.04, and using my new Toshiba L845, the fans do not start working, or do not stoip working, depending on the boot. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1322789] Re: [Toshiba Satellite L845-SP4105LA] laptop fans malfunction in Ubuntu 14.04
Hi, I have the same laptop and had the same problem , the fans were not working. lm -sensors indicated that the temperature reached 70 ° C. I had already installed the package acpi, who used to monitor temperature in my old laptop, and when I install version 14.04 on my L845, I did also to monitor temperature because I give an intensive use. But when running the command acpi-t did not get any results, and run acpi-V the result was as follows: Luzbelito @ luzbola : ~ $ acpi- V Adapter 0 : on- line Cooling 0 : pkg -temp- 0 no state information available Cooling 1: intel_powerclamp no state information available Cooling 2: LCD 0 of 100 Cooling 3: Processor 0 of 10 Cooling 4: Processor 0 of 10 Cooling 5 : Processor 0 of 10 Cooling 6: Processor 0 of 10 Cooling 7: Processor 0 of 10 Cooling 8: Processor 0 of 10 Cooling 9: Processor 0 of 10 Cooling 10: Processor 0 of 10 As the temperature did not go down , I install the package thermald . The configuration file thermald was unchanged , so fans should start at 50 ° C , which was not the case and the temperature was still high . Then I uninstall the package acpi and everything started to work properly . When the temperature reaches 50 ° C the fans start to run and when that temperature drops stop. Perform testing to reinstall the acpi package and the problem appears again, to uninstall everything starts working again. Hope this helps. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1322789] Re: [Toshiba Satellite L845-SP4105LA] laptop fans malfunction in Ubuntu 14.04
Hi Christopher, Considering this bug is in an LTS version of Ubuntu, and that 14.10 will *not* be an LTS version, I do not understand it as being closed, or a fix released. If a backport for 14.04 is released, then we can assume we have a solution for an LTS release. And my machine is not *that* new to consider it as a strange case. Please, keep it open until a solution exists for this release. Thanks, and best regards, HeCSa. HeCSa, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because the bug as per https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1322789/comments/26 this has been fixed in the latest development version of Ubuntu - Utopic Unicorn. This is a significant bug in Ubuntu. If you need a fix for the bug in previous versions of Ubuntu, please perform as much as possible of the SRU Procedure [1] to bring the need to a developer's attention. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1322789] Re: [Toshiba Satellite L845-SP4105LA] laptop fans malfunction in Ubuntu 14.04
Hi again, Yes, I had to enable "universe" in /etc/apt/sources.list, and then installed it. Everything looks good using the Live image. Which are the next steps to have this issue solved? Do I have to reinstall the system using this image? Will I be able to have future upgrades, in case I switch to this development version? I like the way I use Ubuntu today, having updates, and release updates every 6 months... [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1322789] Re: [Toshiba Satellite L845-SP4105LA] laptop fans malfunction in Ubuntu 14.04
Hi, Christopher! Thanks for your guide. I installed the packages following the link you provided. When booting into Ubuntu, the screen starts flicking, and cannot use it. It seems that the temperature is not going up, because I can connect via ssh, and there launch vncserver just to put some load into my machine. Checking the temperature, after 30 minutes using Thunderbird, Firefox and Chromium, the output of "sensors" is what follows: coretemp-isa- Adapter: ISA adapter Physical id 0: +59.0°C (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C) Core 0: +59.0°C (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C) Core 1: +59.0°C (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C) Core 2: +59.0°C (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C) Core 3: +55.0°C (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C) radeon-pci-0100 Adapter: PCI adapter temp1:+52.5°C Looks good. But no video, and no audio! I tried to reproduce some audio, with no luck, using a VNC client. I used CLI for this, just to avoid confussion and to send the output to the speakers. The network of course works, wired and wireless. If there is some trick to bring up audio & video here, I think I'll have the issue solved. Now this issue appears as "Incomplete", must I change its status to something different? Thanks a lot, and best regards, HeCSa.
